How Green Becomes Wood

When Alec grunted, Daizi couldn't help but make a face. It was something she knew he had absolutely no control over, but still--bit unnecessary, she thought. It wasn't real offense, and she had expected to be dropped on the floor, so really it wasn't a big deal. But still. Dark, meanwhile, as she fell, immediately broke his pose without thinking about it, just in case he needed to dive to stop her from hitting the floor, because he certainly would risk harm to himself to prevent his wife from even a minor fall.

Milo straightened up from where he was looking through the camera lens, "I think if your father can manage to hold the position, it might work."

"Yes I can manage it." Dark replied, "I had to be certain you would not let her hit the floor."

Once they reset and Milo was pleased with how they were lit, they were able to actually take those photographs, and although Dark always tensed when he let Daizi fall, he held his pose properly. Daizi could never fully remove the apprehension when she rolled towards Alec, but it was quite the trust fall.

Alec caught Daizi and did not get even close to dropping her, and now that he was ready for her weight, he didn't grunt, either. Once they were out of the frame, he took Daizi's hand and started dancing with her just where Dark could see.

"It's a good thing we don't have anymore people back here or else he would turn it into a ballroom dance," Xander commented to Milo.

With a little laugh, Daizi gladly joined in the dance, fully aware it would torture her husband who had to stand perfectly still. "At the renewal we'll be able to dance like this for real," She told Alec.

"I wouldn't mind it if I could take a larger photograph," Milo admitted before giving Dark permission to move again, "It'd just be a lot harder to coordinate."

"I look forward to it," Alec promised, smiling as he spun her gently. "It will be so much fun! And so beautiful, and I expect a lot of tears."

"That would be hard," Xander agreed. "Is that it for the night? Did you get everything you wanted?"

"I don't know how many people will end up crying at it," Daizi replied, enjoying the shorter dance with him, "I expect a lot of guests will have a wonderful time but not really understand why we're doing it. I'll probably cry, though, during our ceremony."

"I think that's everything, yeah," Milo said, his excitement in his face, "I'm really excited to develop them. I mean, my first roll I need to let the light leak in, but I can do that anywhere. I really hope at least some turned out the way I want them to. I've also, um, started the processing of the pictures from Ivy's birthday."

"I think I understand, and it will be a marvelous experience!" Alec said happily. "I'm so excited for you! It's exactly what you deserve." He was enjoying this dance for as long as he could before Dark would take her away, becasue he fully expected his father to swoop her into a haunted ballroom dance for real.

"Nice," Xander praised as he started taking things down to put away. "How do you think they turned out? Got any favorites yet, or do we have to wait a little longer?"

"My dress is beautiful," She said, "I couldn't be happier with it, it feels like a perfect follow up to my wedding dress." Dark watched the pair of them with disguised jealousy. He did very much want to steal Daizi away and dance with her, but it seemed like it would cause them to accidentally lose the bet, so he refrained. After a few moments spent in anguish, he began to blow out the candles.

"It's too early to really tell, I've only started the first roll of film, I used two that day." Milo replied, also taking everything down and putting it away properly, "The ones from when you were parading Ivy in the wheelbarrow are really sweet, though."

"This will be my first wedding. I know, it's a vow renewal, but it's as close to a wedding as I've ever been," Alec said cheerfully. He gave her one last spin - forced to stand on his tiptoes and stretch awkwardly to do so - and ended the dance. "Thank you for being my partner in this dance!'

"Yeah?" Xander asked, blushing just a little as he folded a sheet. "Cool. I bet these ones from tonight are going to be your... you know, best work ever. Can't remember what that's called. You should enter some of the really good ones in contests or something."

"Thank you for dancing with me," Daizi replied after crouching down so he could twirl her. "It was a lot of fun."

"Do you mean master piece?" Milo asked, "I dunno if photographers get masterpieces. But I'm still really looking forward to seeing if I got good shots of your sister getting her frosting hands in your dad's beard. I should've done that film roll first."

"Whenever you like, habibi," Daizi replied, cupping his chin in her hand, "Now, I have to go change into something other than this ghost costume."

"I was thinking about going to work on more developing tomorrow," Milo said, glancing outside, "It's probably too late to have much time there tonight."

"You make a lovely ghost," Alec assured her. "I should finish picking up." He turned and started helping to gather what little was left.

"Yeah? Mind some company?" Xander asked. "Been a while since I saw the process."

"We can meet there," Milo replied, slinging his camera over his shoulder and picking up his belongings, "If you could, um, give me a ride home tonight, though, that'd be helpful? It's okay if not, it's just, your car is bigger than my grandparents'."

Xander didn't exactly smile, but it was clear he was pleased by Milo's request. "Sure, I got you. If you're ready to go, let me tell my folks where I'm headed, and then we can get going. Want anything to drink before we head out? Snack for the road? Anything like that?"

"I think I've got everything," Milo replied, taking one last look around, "Thanks again for letting me do this. It was fun. I think this is the only kind of posed photography I like, it's a lot more fun than just gathering people around and making them smile. I don't need anything, though, this was enough."

"This kind of posed photography looks like it'd be a heck of a lot of fun for creative genius kids like you," Xander said off-handedly as he walked toward Dark. "It was pretty fun for me working as the crew, too, and I know Mama had a blast." He nodded to Dark as he got closer. "Ba, Milo needs a ride home, so I'm going to take him and come back if that's cool."
