New User Belated Salutations

Greetings! Hello! Bonjour! Et cetera, et cetera. BardicWaffle here, finally making a post about actually being here. I've been lurking for a few days, hanging out quietly in chat and otherwise browsing the boards whilst pondering my own future games, and figured it was time to jump right into the ol' roleplayin' pond here on the Circle.

I've been playing roleplaying games since I was just a child, initially introduced to the magic of storytelling and dice-rolling by my father and his oddball array of D&D friends wherein I found myself instantly sucked into what's become my favorite hobby to this day. Though somewhat unfamiliar with diceless/freeform and play-by-post roleplaying games in-general, I've got a wealth of experience through more system-centric and tabletop games, running the gamut from the most famous example above to the more obscure ones, such as Tales from the Floating Vagabond and Mekton Zeta.

I'm genuinely eager to get started telling stories here on the Circle, and I hope you'll join me in creating something truly special that we can all enjoy.

Well then you'd be glad to know that this site actually has it's own tabletop support set up, so you can enjoy D&D here too if you want. :)

Though the main difference between tabletop and forum RP is really two things:

1. No Mechanics, so everything you do is a result of your imagination and creativity. It's like a book, there's no die roll telling you what your Chapter can and can't say.
2. Not-Instant. In D&D usually you got people responding back and fourth with each other in real time, in forum RPs people are able to put in their stuff whenever they're free. This can mean a lot of waiting, but it also means your RPs are more flexible, and aren't going to end just because some of your players suddenly have other obligations for a certain set of hours.

Oh, I'm certainly interested in getting my feet wet with something less crunchy and more narrative focused. Truthfully, I've been trying to shed my admittedly unhealthy fixation on the mechanical side of things and move on to something more loose; I've long since noticed I worry too much on finding ways to align things through the rules of whatever system I'm playing in with my character concepts, and ultimately feeling unsatisfied :p

Just gotta ween myself, I guess! Still, I'm excited to try :D

I can get the desire of switching to a new RP type.
Though it was the reverse for me, I was a forum roleplayer who later went on to discover tabletop RPs.

If I may ask, what systems of tabletop have you tried before?

Oh, boy. Where to even begin.

I was first introduced to tabletop by my dad and his friends through AD&D. From there, I've played most versions of D&D to varying degrees, Risus, Shadowrun, Boot Hill, Spycraft, Legend of the Five Rings, Pathfinder, Traveler, Golden Sky Stories, Mekton Zeta, Twilight 2000, Tales from the Floating Vagabond, Rolemaster, GURPS, Lasers & Feelings... I could really go on and on there. My latest love affair is with Dungeon World (and by extension most Apocalypse World games) and Shadow of the Demon Lord; the former because it focuses on the narrative aspect as a driving force of the game and I think that's an amazing mechanic, and the latter for its dark and savage lore coupled with its easy-to-understand mechanics, and would highly recommend both to anyone :)

... So experience that far surpasses my own. o_o
Well, there goes my "Have you tried an easier system?" suggestion. XD

Most of my experience is with D&D 3.5, Pathfinder and Star Wars D6.
So I've played around a bit in GURPs, Call of Cthulhu, Only War as well as D&D 4th and 5th edition as well.

Anyways, you've certainly got your feet wet in the RP department.
You got any questions on how the forum side of things work?

Risus and Lasers & Feelings are about as simple as I get, yeah :p

But no, nothing immediately jumps to mind as far as how things work forum-side. I've been kind of watching the boards for almost a week now, just soaking it all up through osmosis and hanging out in chat. But I super-appreciate the support in getting started, Gwazi! :D

*Rolls Recollection on those systems*
*Natural 1*
*Takes Sanity Damage*

Well if you've already gotten a good look at the site then great! May the dice gods fare thee well!
