I'm here to practice writing and talk to writers. I discovered forum roleplay accidentally when I was 17 (on a website called Newgrounds... which was NOT intended for roleplaying). After that I was hooked and it ignited a love for writing and collaborative storytelling. I'm not an amazing writer and I have no aspirations about being the next Cormac McCarthy or anything like that, but writing on these forums often ignites the spark I need to work on my own stuff. Plus, you can find some pretty terrific people on websites like these. I like the vibe here; It seems really intimate.
I mainly read horror and adventure. I especially love stories about isolation (an Antarctic research lab, a whaling ship in the middle of the Atlantic, an abandoned space station...) Then in between that I'll read history because it's good for me. I prefer heroes to anti-heroes because it's more interesting to me to watch someone try to be wholly good in the face of a world that isn't. The hard-boiled, hard drinking private dick is fun for a while but there's just so much of it. I also don't particularly care for romance.
I've been lucky enough to have had my own adventures. I'm approaching middle age and when I look back on the last twenty years I can definitely say that it's been interesting. I've been to dozens of countries and seen some incredibly remote places. A lot of the adventures were scary, but adventures are supposed to be scary sometimes. I've been really lucky in that regard. I'm trying not to reveal too much about who I am, but I'm happy to talk about my past if anyone is interested or has questions about it in this introductory thread.
In addition to writing I enjoy camping and outdoor hobbies like hunting and fishing. I also have a French easel that I'll lug out and about to do some "En Plein Air" painting. I'm terrible at it. On a Sunday evening you can probably find me at my local movie theater with a bag of popcorn. I don't particularly care what's on, I just like going to the movie theater.
I'm not exactly sure what else to write here. It's been a long time since I was active in a roleplay forum so if there's something else you guys want just let me know. I look forward to getting to know you guys.
