He/They
Hi everyone, I'm Voltage/Volt, I go by he/they. I've been doing forum roleplay somewhat consistently since late 2016, and wanted to see if there was somewhere new I could do some writing. I do a little bit of everything, including fantasy, sci-fi, superheroes, modern-day, slice of life, really just whatever strikes my fancy. Odds are if the intro/request is interesting, I'll poke my head in.

Outside of writing, I like to keep myself busy with both playing and making games, Dungeons & Dragons, and reading. I'm currently reading A Practical Guide to Evil by ErraticErrata, which currently has me in a stranglehold. Look forward to writing with you all!

Welcome! Glad to have you here. I hope you find what you are looking for in our little corner of the internet.

I have never heard of that book, but it sounds interesting. What is it about? Or does the title say it all?

Honestly I'm terrible at giving the pitch for it. The basic gist is that the protagonist wants to join the Evil army in order to use the system to fix her home city, and in doing so gains a Name that grants her powers.

For a better pitch, I summon @Katpride, who recommended it to me in the first place. Take it away, Kat

Lol, hi. I am much further in the series than Volt but I'll do my best.

The basic premise is that in this world, stories have power. Repeated stories wear grooves into the fabric of creation, and those grooves are called Roles. To play out those roles, people can grow into a Name; essentially, they gain relevance to the story at large, and are rewarded with powers and sent to fight for Good or Evil. Our protagonist, Catherine Foundling, is an orphan girl who has a good heart but is taken under the wing of a villainous mentor; the Black Knight, considered to be the head of a group of old monsters on the side of Evil called the Calamities. Catherine doesn't really want to be a villain, but she does want to make her home country something other than the stomping ground of other countries' wars, so she starts her quest to Do Something About That.

It explores a lot of themes surrounding what it means to be Evil but not evil, how far is too far in the pursuit of a noble goal, and whether it is better to be powerful or to be human. A very interesting read! You can find it here: https://practicalguidetoevil.wordpress.com/table-of-contents/
