Background
The end of the Cold War was a huge loss for the Russian people. They lost their seat as a world power and renounced over half of their territories, as they could no longer govern the entire Eastern Block. When magic was introduced in 1995, it changed everything. Alexei Romanov was the lead scientist at the time and wrote the thesis of Magitech, which would change the entire perspective of science. By applying alchemy, magic, and technology, it was now possible to enhance humanity beyond their capability. Life-extension, youth, and modification of the body were all within reach. With the full support of the Russian Government, Alexei Romanov was given a countless amount of humans to experiment on and funds to progress Magitech by decades. The crown jewel of the Magitech research was the creation of the Homunculi, an artificial lab-grown human being. A perfect cloning. The Homunculi were created with the intention of surpassing humans. Their bodies are enhanced and made of magic, meaning that they can cast spells more naturally than regular humans. The Homunculi, however, lacked something that Alexei Romanov never thought possible, a soul. Their bodies were perfect, but mere shells with basic instincts. Failure upon failure, it did not succeed Alexei in creating a perfect homunculus.
However, it was possible to enslave the homunculi with slave marks, making them basic servants who could be trained to do the bidding of their masters. The Army was swiftly overwhelmed by these Magitech Troopers, who was a force to be reckoned with.
Tired of the bureaucratic and Russia’s corrupt Government, Alexei Romanov plotted a coup that was to unify all of Russia under one rule, his. With his ambitions, he had implanted all of the Magitech Troopers from creation to only listen to him. Their father. Alexei was already a capable Magus, and his research allowed him to create the perfect body for himself, achieving the status of immortality. He seized full control of the country by the overwhelming Magitech Troopers who slaughtered any opposition in their way. When the nation was his and it was clear he would come up as the victor, he gained the support of former ministers out of fear.
Alexei founded the new Romanov Dynasty and claimed the title as Emperor. His Imperial Palace was built on top of the former Parliament building in Moscow.
While the coup in Russia had upset the world and Magitech became banned in several countries for its inhuman experimentations, no one could really dispose of Romanov, in fear of a world war.
Alexei somehow knew of the natural catastrophe years before it was happening, it was why he continued to develop the military and was oddly prepared for the invasion of East Europe. When all of the former Soviet Union states were annexed, Alexei Romanov changed the name of his nation into the Confederacy and vowed that all of the worlds was for his people to take.
Over time and with his status as immortal, Alexei Romanov was worshipped as a God by the people.
The Confederacy Army consists of Magitech Troopers with few human officers that command them. Meaning that almost no Russian blood was spilled during the Hundred Years’ War.
There is a certain stigma for the homunculi, they are not even considered human by the Confederacy and used as expendable war assets as well as carrying out society’s least desired works. They are bound by the slave seal and cannot go against their masters. Should the seal be removed, the homunculi will cease its life-functions.
Role during the Hundred Years’ War
Villainized and criticized by the world for their ambition of dominance during the Hundred Years’ War, as well as the violation of human rights and blasphemy for creating the Magitech Homunculi. During the war, many atrocities and crime against humanity were done by the Confederacy and most of the Middle-East’s decimation was due to the Confederacy’s warpath.
Due to their almost endless supply of Magitech Troopers, the Confederacy could fight a war on numerous fronts without worry of a drop in morale or loss of human life. Their primary enemies were the Holy Kingdom of Britannia, The North American Alliance and the Union. All fronts were fought to a stalemate.
Inherited Magic
Magitech: While the Russians employ the soulless homunculi army, the body augmentation is also available and done to active Russian mages. The Magitech physiology varies, but the common traits are increased regeneration and superhuman strength as well as reflexes.
Bio Morphing: A distinct trait for the augmented or homunculi. Any limb of their body they can transform into weapon or armor of their choice. The hardening effect varies, depending on the experience and strength of the user. Few people can do a full-body transformation. It is said the process is extremely painful for novice users, making this type of magic seem brutal in the eyes of the world. The usage of Bio Morphing Magic leaves a toll on the flesh, causing cosmetic mutations which are different from user to user. Common mutations are horns growing out from the forehead, or skin turning into black fish scales. Practitioners of Bio Morphing either cover themselves in make-up or illusions to hide these features.
