Background
Once known as Great Britain, this island nation was once a global superpower with vast colonies and military might. Britannia gave birth to many folklore and legends which only constitutes for the magic that surrounded this nation. Once upon a time, great mages of the ancient days flocked to the leylines that once surrounded this land, and it is also the origin of where Excalibur came to be. The greatest wizard of all time, Merlin, created Excalibur for the true King of England to rule his subjects. Arthur Pendragon seized the blade from the stone and set forth to create a mighty kingdom and ensure the safety of his subjects.
As the legend goes, the Kingdom of Camelot fell due to Morgana Le Fay’s schemes, and the sword was thrown into the Lake, to never be found. However, it was a mere lie to make those of evil seek out the sword.
Eventually, the Pendragon Dynasty was written off history, and Excalibur thought to be a mere fairy tale. It was, however, another lie the government of Britain spurred to mislead the masses and those seeking the sword. The many Royal Families who ruled over England were Pendragons, just with their family names changed to that of Lancaster, York, Tudor, Stuart, and Hanover. The Excalibur sword went to each passing Great King, and those deemed worthy were given access to the realm of kings, where they delve within the Excalibur sword.
The Order of Pendragon, founded by the surviving members of the Round Table, ruled the country from the shadows as well as keeping the knowledge of magic hidden from the masses. A prophecy of a time when England will need the Pendragon Lineage was what kept this order going. The Pendragon Mage-Knights has been seeking out each worthy King of Arthur’s lineage and trained them well in the arts of magic so they may add their powers into the Excalibur sword.
When the re-introduction of magic became a common phenomenon in 1995, the winds of change was already there. Due to the modern way of politics, the Pendragon could not seize power, despite being the ones ruling from the shadows. When the natural catastrophe occurred and Governments collapsed, Pendragon came out into the light and shone a shining beacon for the masses to follow. King Christian Pendragon VIII succeeded as the monarch, in place of the collapsed British Government. The former “puppet” royal family renounced their titles and the truth was exposed. The King of Britannia wields the Excalibur sword, a source of great magic that keeps his subjects safe. It is the King’s Duty to protect all of his subjects, and pass on the sword to the next heir.
Role during the Hundred Years’ War
When the War was initiated with the former Russia and China’s aggressive expansion into other nations, it was only a question of when the new Confederacy Empire was going to reach British soil. King Christian VIII closed the borders of the island nation and spared his subjects from destruction when the Confederacy invaded. The King and the 12 Knights of Pendragon defended the Holy Kingdom from outsiders, while their people lived in prosperity.
When news of Australia being under attack from the Confederacy, who was seeking more land and resources to expand their empire, only Britannia could answer the call. For the first time, the King sent his 12 Knights of Pendragon to defend Australia with a sizeable naval fleet. They succeeded, and from the hard-fought victory against Magitech troopers, Australia joined the Holy Kingdom of Britannia. With Australia back in their realm of command, it served as a new military supply point for the Kingdom to push towards the Confederacy and end the war.
Inherited Magic
Excalibur: A sword that was created from Merlin’s magic and enhanced by the faith and hope of the people. It is indestructible and enhances the wielder’s strength, divine ability and empowers them with the power of former Kings. The sword stockpiles power over each generation, but comes with a heavy price.
As a result of all the magical ley lines focused on the King and his duty to protect his people, The Holy Kingdom taps into the power of their regent to be able to cast their Divine Magic. Should the King fall, their advanced magical potential will disappear, until a new worthy ruler of the Pendragon lineage becomes bonded with Excalibur. Should the entire bloodline of Arthur perish, Excalibur will shatter and England will need to find a new source of power.
Divine Magic: Inspired by the likes of paladins and clerics of ancient times, the mages of Britannia wield a powerful magic that can only be described as an extension of the Heavens. The royal family, the Pendragons, have exemplified the strongest reach of this magic, displaying a wide versatility of magic in both offense, defense, and support. Skilled practitioners can summon forth blades of solid light, often taking form of legendary weapons from history, they can create strong magical barriers that can block both physical and magical attacks (up to A-rank), boost physical and mental traits of themselves and their allies, mend grievous wounds, fire golden beams of light that can reach up to A-rank in terms of power, with the strongest being able to create solid objects out of pure light and bend them to their will. But the true power that Brittania wields is the legendary Sword of Miracles, Excalibur. This weapon far surpasses the MPS scale, having demonstrated magic that is capable of completely dwarfing A-rank spells. It’s also suspected to be the origin of the Knights of the Round Table’s mysterious Divine Abilities.
