How Green Becomes Wood

"I'm definitely keeping my mind on this one," Sloan said, taking a quick picture in the mirror, "Right now, it's by far my favourite."

"Here's mine," Claire said, handing Sloan a dark blue sparkly fabric, "It's a little different, but... I don't know. I think maybe you might like it."

Sloan went to change, and soon after opend the curtain. Now she was in a dark blue, sparkly, one shoulder number. Opposite the shoulder strap was a sleeve which reached down to her calf, and the space between the two left an interesting shape. At first, it seemed like a fairly simple cut dress, but then when she moved, it was revealed it was actually a jumpsuit, rather than a gown.

"It's crazy, I know," Claire said, trying to get ahead of it, "but I saw it and I wanted to see you in it."

"Not for prom," Alec said after taking a moment to take it in, "but... wow! It is stunning. Very sparkly. I'm loving the sleeve. The whole thing reminds me of something from a dance competition. How do you feel in it?"

"Confident? Not too leotard-like?" Xander asked.

"It is... A little leotard like," Sloan admitted, "but I do really like it. I feel like a popstar. Like Dolly Parton or something. It's really cool, my mom would hate it."

"Don't choose it just for that, though," Claire told her.

"I wouldn't, but it's interesting, you know? It's different."

"A good idea," Alec agreed, thinking she'd had a more openly positive reaction to the halter dress. It wasn't that he wanted her to choose a dress he'd picked out, it just seemed like she'd had a stronger reaction to it. On the other hand, this outfit would definitely stand out!

"So, food, then one more store?" Xander asked. "I think we've looked over all the dresses here. Unless we missed somebody's choice?"

"I'm good," Alec said and looked at Claire. "You? And did you have any others, Sloan?"

Neither Claire nor Sloan had another dress they were interested in, so they agreed to go and eat. Sloan suggested they just go to the food court so they didn't have to decide together where to eat.

"I choose pretzels," Alec said. "Does anyone else want pretzels? I can get pretzels for all of us."

"I'm feeling pizza, and I can grab enough for everyone," Xander said.

"Deal!" Alec chirped, and Xander nodded.

Alec went for pretzels and got enough mini pretzel bites to share as well as one full-sized pretzel for each. He didn't think they'd be able to eat it all, but at least the bites were in a very nice carry container. There was dip, as well. Xander got six slices, each with a different topping, and a to-go box, also figuring they wouldn't be able to eat it all, but leftovers were awesome.

Claire and Sloan went together to the boba place to get a drink for everyone. Since there were two of them, there wasn't any difficulty in bringing the four drinks back to the table. Once they were at a round table, Claire chose to sit beside Alec while Sloan went to fetch napkins for everyone.

"You're welcome," Claire replied, "I got you the fruity pebbles one again."

When Sloan came back, she sat on the other side of Claire and said, "I can't believe I'm almost done with high school."

"I'm honestly shocked to have made it this far. I thought for sure I'd have gotten expelled by now," Xander admitted.

"I hoped to make it to the end, but it is nice to have not gotten kicked out," Alec agreed. "So many new friends!"

"I was an absolute delinquent who got into fights, started them or got pulled into them, skipped school a lot, and otherwise made trouble," Xander said bluntly.

Alec shrugged. "I tried to stay out of the trouble, but I usually skipped with him. Sometimes, I got pulled into the fights, but not on purpose."

"Not to mention our grades," Xander snorted.
