Hello! I'm Sue (she/her). I'm a Xennial who is over 40 and no longer care to keep track of my exact age :joy: I'm a Southern American in the EST time zone.
I'm looking for experienced writers (aged 21+) who are interested in exploring emotionally-real family/coming of age centered plots. I've been writing family stories since before fanfiction was cool and before I had consistent internet access. In 2003 I sat in my college dorm and typed "family roleplay that allows spanking" in the yahoo groups search engine. I have been writing parent/caregiver characters ever since.
A friend of mine actually made the comment "I think the generation that did that is dying out" but I hope to find that to be untrue! (How Green Becomes Wood is an example of what I am looking for - relationships first). As an educator and someone who wants to be a parent in real life, I am deeply interested in family dynamics and psychology.
WHAT I CAN GIVE AND NEED IN RETURN:
Quality over Quantity: I want to advance the plot so that my partner has plenty to work with. At a minimum I need "Who, what, where, when" in the first post and "how" and "why" can be explored along the way.
I embrace the concept of "yes, and" as long as it falls short of Godplay/Metagaming. (Though if we write together long enough to where things can be safely assumed about one another's characters, I can be less rigid with this). I love collaborative worldbuilding that stays mostly within the confines of realism or realism-adjacent (ie akin to 80's sitcoms like Alf or Small Wonder, or Stefan-era Family Matters).
It's easy for me to get into and think in a character's headspace to create worldbuilding by bouncing ideas off of my partner. Part of the fun is when things don't go as either party has planned!
Discussing and learning about each other's characters by asking an answering questions and having conversations.
I'm available daily since I don't work, due to a disability.
I haven't gotten around to character sheets yet - I wanted to see if this community is interested in the genre first.
I'm specifically looking for foster/adoption/new parent or guardian plots and have always loved working with my partner(s) to come up with backstory and worldbuilding. I'm comfortable writing for one or both parents/extended family and would prefer a partner who can write more than one character as well.
I tend to write third-person, past-tense and can write from a few sentences to 300-500 words or more. I try very hard to not do one-liners but if characters are in a conversation and the setting has already been established it might happen.
