Ancient Forest (1X1)

She stared at him. He was asking the same question she had been asking herself this entire time.

Then she realized. "I came back because I can help...because it's why I've always wanted to come here...and it will keep you and your brother a from hurting anyone else if I do this. I was born to do this..."

"Because of your pendant... Orange told me what your plan was, but it still just feels wrong. Even if your soul rejuvenates itself or however it works, I can't bring myself to feed from you after I've already spared you. We've gotten so used to having to wait for a meal to come, now with a practically eternal food source for us... I don't know, something about it feels off."

She nods slightly. "It does sound crazy...all of it but that is why I need you to be the one to test the theory. You've stopped before...i trust you..."

As soon as she said she trusteed him, he only seemed to get more nervous. But he finally seemed to understand, and he nodded, "Okay.. I-I'll try. As long as you're ready and okay with it."

She nods a bit. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be." She says to him. She holds the pendant tightly in her hand as she tilts her head to him. She closes her eyes and waits for the pain to come.

He approached her and prepared himself to bite into her neck. "If anything feels like it's going wrong, just let me know." After a quick deep breath to reassure himself, he bit her neck just enough to draw a soul out of it. At least a small piece of it, he didn't even want to think about killing her.

She tenses up a little as he bit into her neck. She felt the pull as she had before but this time she tightened her hold on the pendant. It warmed suddenly in her hand and began to glow with a soft orange light as it began to gather from the earth around them.

She slowly relaxed her eyes remaining closed. After a few minutes the pendant began to pulse, giving her the signal that it was time for him to stop. Gently she puts her hand on his arm.

He stopped as he got the signal, pulling away and looking her in the eyes. He still seemed pretty nervous, but just feeding appeared to have calmed him down some. "So... is it okay? Are you still going through with this plan?" Mainly what he was asking was 'did it work,' but he didn't want to say it that way directly.

It took her a second to regain focus. Then she nods to him as she looks up at him. "I think it did. The necklace...it was guiding me." She nods a bit.

He smiles the smallest bit and nods. "Then you will be fine dealing with my brothers. I suspect they will want to make use of your newfound abilities more than I will." He paused a minute, then took another deep breath as his smile widened. "Thank you. For coming back to help us. Even if it's the last thing I ever suspected would happen to us, I am so grateful that you even considered it."

She nods a bit at his words, managing her own smile. "This place is a part of me I suppose." She says. Then nods again and moves to go see to his brothers.

The brothers hadn't moved much, and in fact started to gather in some concern about this plan. Not all of them were sure this was going to work. As Orange spotted Sarah coming by, he calmed the others down and turned to face her. "Is Red alright?"

She nods a bit to Orange as he asked about Red. "He is okay. We tested the theory. It worked." She manages to smile then nods again. "I can feed the rest of you now if you are ready." She says.

Then after she was going to have to take care of herself. Food first, then dry clothes and probably sleep. Then after that she would deal with the question of how to continue doing this for them and living out here.

No one approached her. Some seemed skeptical, some a bit scared, but it seemed no one was going to try it out right now.

Orange took a couple steps towards her, but for a different reason. "I understand there's a few things we'll need to get settled so that you can help us. We will help to take care of these things, but it may take some time since we've never really interacted with humans. Other than... well, you know."

She blinks a bit at his words. They had surprised her but realized she was judging them too quickly. She looks at each of them then nods a bit. "Alright. Let's get a fire going so I can warm up and we can talk about everything." She says.

Orange quickly took the lead and got the demons to start making a fire, right near where Sarah and her friends had had one before. Once it sparked, they quickly waved her over, wanting to get her warm as soon as possible.

She watched how the brothers worked together. They were a family. How had they gotten to be out here all on their own? Did they have parents? She found herself suddenly filled with all these questions about them.

As they finished with the fire and she was waved over, she walked to the fire and sat down. Gently rubbing her arms as the heat washed over her, slowly warming her up.

She nods a bit and smiles some. "Feels good. Thank you."

"You're welcome." was the simple reply from Orange. The demons sat around the fire as well, though seemed to be doing it more for each other and to keep Sarah company than for the warmth. None of them really seemed sure what to do, what kind of things might be safe to talk about with her around.

She watched the fire for a moment before she started to talk. "My mother always talked about this place when I was a kid. How beautiful it used to be and how it was older than anything. It was were her mother grew up. When my mother was young, she said they had to flee here because someone was killing off the families. Taking the lives of everyone. " She pauses a minute then continues. "Momma had said, they lived here in peace with the tribe and helped the forest grow and helped those who lived here before them. In return, they protected each other."

She shakes her head a little. "I thought most of what she said was tales. Scary stories." She looks down at her hand where Orange had bitten her. "She died a few years ago. She wanted me to promise not to come here because the one who had killed everyone was never stopped." She rubs her head. "I didn't believe her, not until I saw you and then when the chief said what he did."

They listened to her carefully, then Orange seemed to be thinking about something for a minute. "Well, if we're going to have you helping to feed us for a while, we should probably do something to return the favor."

He then faced his brothers, trying to make himself seem like he had more authority than he usually did. "Here's what I'm thinking. If anyone, or anything, invades our territory trying to harm Sarah, we will do everything in our power to keep her safe. It only seems right with what she's doing for us. What do you say, guys?" He extended his hand to the brothers, palm down. One by one, the other four placed their hands on top of Orange's, then all looked up at each other in agreement.
