Guts remained silent when Libra presented the brand to him, narrowing his eye at it while the man spoke. He said nothing, even after Ciel took over from there, further explaining their circumstances and their run-in with the Skull Knight, able to recognize him from the boy's description. The imposing man sneered slightly at the boy's attitude, looking down upon him despite his restrained state.

"Like it or not, huh... Ain't that the case," he grunted, letting out a humorless laugh as he straightened his posture slightly, "Sorry, kid. Your knight in shining armor made a wrong judgment; I'm not the man you're looking for. If you wanna redirect your curse on someone else, then by all means. Do it on your worst enemies or your best friends for all I fucking care," Guts said dismissively, turning to look away, as though becoming disinterested in the conversation, before Puck piped up.

"Guts, what are you talking about?! Casca's in great danger, you know! You can't turn away any potential help! If they don't get you out of here, then she might--!"

"I know. Shut up, Puck," the man replied with a sudden firm edge in his tone, "I know I don't have a choice though... I don't know what that Skull Knight was thinking sending a bunch of branded my way, or whether or not he knew I'd be put in this kind of situation, but right now, I guess I really can't afford to be picky about things. But let's get some things straight," Guts said, eyeing everyone seriously, "I'm not gonna be your friend. If you die, or your life becomes an inconvenience, then that'll be that. If you wanna get together, then fine, so long as it's temporary. I work better alone. Since it sounds like you people have your own objectives, then I trust that won't be a problem."

He wondered for a second how there even came to be more branded. Guts wondered in the back of his head if this was some sort of setup, but... Loath as he was to admit it, he'd have to just put faith in this miracle. It disgusted him to lay his fate in the hands of something like a "miracle," but if it was to do what he needed, then so be it.

"Also, if you expect me to lead you right to the doorstep to some evil that I happened to know about, then guess again. I've put down every monster I've come across, but I don't have the convenient solution of being able to put my curse on someone else, nor would I want to. The only evil I'll be putting down are those fucking devils that call themselves God... One by one. But if where I go opens the pathway to a new road that's convenient for you, then be my damned guest."

He didn't know what they were going on about when it was said that he'd be able to lead them to the evil that they wanted to seek, but he didn't care right now. If it was going to be an accident, a coincidence even, or because of the evil that his brand attracted, but it didn't matter right now. There was only one thing that mattered to him right now.

Tilting his head a bit, he eyed everyone again.

"Now then... Are you just gonna stand there, or are you gonna make yourself useful and get me out of here?"

The guard was still in visible range, everyone's whispers and low voices managing to evade his ears, but hopefully it wouldn't matter all that much, especially if all the guards were off in what sounded like disturbances in the other areas.

The slug monsters individually died easily enough, even if their size might have made them a challenge to pin down. But even so, their numbers continued, not seeming to relent no matter what, as more monsters began to crawl from around the corner from the market, leading one to believe that an entire town's worth of these monsters were present. Due to their sheer, continuing presence, it was difficult to make a hasty escape or retreat anywhere, essentially trapping everyone around.

"Come back."

"Return to nothingness."

"Give in to the sacrifice."

"Atone for your sins."

The same, sickening, raspy voice echoed throughout the different, identical slug monsters, taunting the fighters as they gradually became more and more aggressive and vicious, eager for a meal. Some of them even attempted to leap at their mouths, hoping to possess them if not devour them as well. Things were not looking good at the moment, but one's options were limited here, especially with the unconscious bodies still in the crossfire.

When Guts made it a point that he didn't care for anyone's lives in the group and that he had no intention of becoming anyone's friend, Ciel only stared back, his eyes completely devoid of emotion.

"That makes the both of us." Ciel stated coldly. After he was done speaking and motioned for them to free him, Ciel only nodded solemnly. "Of course. Sebastian."

"And if you don't want to help us find an evil? Well, I think we would all appreciate the end of those demons who branded us. So how about this: If we come across some evil worth sacrificing, you can hold back on killing them until we can get them branded. However, if we run into thise demons again, thrn perhaps you and your robo hand can give them a good punch in the face. Is that alright with you, Gutsman?"

"In your dreams, unpleasant-lookings," Laservision taunts back, "my my, there are an abundance of them."

"Operculum Oris."

Laservision's eyes briefly glowed a bright purple-pink as the mouths of everyone(but himself) in the area were veiled in a small sheet of mana, preventing the slugs from entering them.

"Alright fellows, if this fails, we might have to turn to the... well... last resort. A last resort that even I despise."

Laservision blasts the slug that emerged from the ringleader with heat vision.

"Taking out the queen - a classic move. This had better work."

"If your concern is that we become allies then rest assured that a common goal is the only thing that has brought us together."
If this black swordsman wanted reassurance about any lack of bonds then Grace was going to provide that. "Now, let's go save your friend, shall we?"

The slugs did not make Morte feel comfortable right now. "Ugh this is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen! Comin' from me that's something I'll tell ya that!" It couldn't be helped however and Morte leaped into action doing his best to bite these crummy slugs to death before they could cause any more problems.

"Likely inferior to my grandfather's cooking as well," Laservision adds to Morte's commentary as he continues to freeze and burn any potential slugs that kept coming his way, "not that I wish to discover that possibility."

As the chains snapped open easily enough, Guts rubbed his fleshy wrist briefly, stretching it with a soft groan, giving a passing glance at Sebastian and Grace, giving the latter a nod, and then to Kokichi, already not seeming to care about the boy's talkative nature. Deliberately choosing not to respond, he instead opted to freely walk out the cell without a word, opening the door and alarming the guard, who nearly jumped back in shock as the tall man casually walked into a nearby door, the next room over looking like some sort of armory, acting as though he didn't care that the guard was right there.

The guard, in question, looked over at the group in shock, which then twisted into anger. "Y-You...! What did you do?! I'll have your heads for this! Freeing a prisoner... That's a crime punishable by death!" He exclaimed, drawing his sword and pointing the blade at everyone, "I don't know how you did it, but I know you're certainly not members of the Church now! I should have known!!"

"Haha, yeah, jokes on you! How do you like them apples?!" Puck laughed heartily, before blinking and remembering the guard couldn't see or hear him, to which he simply sighed dejectedly, before flying behind the group, "I'll just... leave him to you guys. You're not gonna like, kill him or anything, are you? I'm not ready for that..."

"Yeah, sorry, but I don't really think most of us are the priestly type, sir," Virginia awkwardly replied before shrugging and quick-drawing her own weapons, aiming the pistols right for the guard, "Really, you should have figured it out before now... but I can't complain. Our job is done here, so if you don't mind, we're just going to go." At Puck's uncomfortable question, the drifter shook her head with a smile, speaking as if to thin air in the view of the guard, "No, it wouldn't be right to do that to him since he's just doing his job. Now, as for what's right in terms of getting out of here..."

Before she could put her plan of popping him once in the hand to get him to drop his weapon, the demon butler had already been unleashed on the man, and Virginia could only sigh in exasperation, sighing in agreement with the sentiments expressed by Libra and Grace, "I was just going to disarm him... but hopefully, he'll be able to recover after this. Would really not have his blood on my hands either."

"Ugh, Sebastian, take care of this buffoon." Ciel ordered in a tired sounding tone, not even giving the guard a passing glance as he walked straight past him.

"As you wish, my lord." Sebastian replied a with a bow. At an almost blinding speed, Sebastian would run over to the guard and attempt to deliver a quick punch to his lower jaw, which was hopefully enough to knock him out entirely.

"I suggest we merely incapacitate him," Libra said. "The less blood on our hands during this endeavor, the better. I can only imagine the more sins we commit will make it difficult to find something as evil as us."

...and Sebastian went and did just that. Well then.

"Libra's right. We don't need to make ourselves seem worse. Killing will probably increase our evil level and make us tastier snacks for those demons."

Aside from that, Kokichi really didn't want to kill anyone. There were enough dead bodies by the back door.
"We never did specify which church after all." Grace responded to the guard. "Look from what I could tell from earlier this job is a heavy drain both mentally and physically. Just lock yourself inside the cell and tell your superiors that we overpowered you and we can just call it a-"

WHAM!

Easily enough, the guard hit the floor hard, instantly knocked out without a sound.

After a few brief moments, Guts eventually exited the armory, now dressed in his armor and armed with his sword, or so, one could expect it belonged to him, since it was far from the same equipment that the guards all sported. The man was already an imposing figure before, standing at 6'2, but his armor alone must have added at least a hundred pounds to his mass, and his sword that hung on his back, while obscured a bit, was more than likely also a piece of work, the blade almost as tall as Guts's standing height and thicker than his thick arms.

"Shall we then?" Guts said as he exited the armory, walking past everyone nonchalantly.

Before long, strange sounds piqued his interest, prompting him to look out the barred window in the wall, where he (and everyone who cared to look over his shoulder) would catch sight of a great number of what looked like slug monsters clashing with the group there, along with a dark skinned woman hiding defensively, and an unfamiliar teenage boy with orange hair. Furrowing his brow, Guts brushed his thumb against his nose briefly, as though it were a minor inconvenience. "Looks like your friends there are already making fast friends. They are your friends, right?" He said, before making his way for the door.

"C'mon. Let's crash the party, and then from there, we'll ditch once we can. Ready?"

Virginia had to admit, Guts was definitely an imposing figure who only grew more menacing once he donned his armor. That blade especially made her wonder how strong the man truly was, clearly being able to wield it effectively or else choosing another weapon entirely. However, after being a companion to Gallows for so long, the Drifter had grown used to keeping the company of hulking guys who wern't afraid to fight if their cause called for it, and with a nod, she followed after the warrior as she holstered her arms once again. "Seems like it, though how they managed to get into trouble with monsters like that in a town..." She responded with a worried mumble to Guts, recalling how difficult it was for monsters to invade even moderately well-defended towns in Filgaia.

"Must be some serious trouble that needs our help," She remarked before shooting the swordsman a nod, hands grasping at her ARMs' grips reflexively, "So I'm ready to crash it when you are. Lets show them what Drifters can do!"

WHOOSH!

Hollow Knight seemed to vanish from it's vulnerable sitting position, now found standing behind a sizeable group of the grotesque, slug-like creatures. The drifting shadow that hung in the air around it seemed to denote it's path - having dashed behind the creatures faster than they could notice. It stared down the horde for a moment, waiting for them to turn and catch wind of the knight's presence. They'd scramble and lick their lips with anticipation, seeking to remove the threat closest to them. It's deeply unfortunate that the creature seemed to lack a mouth, but maybe they'll just have to carve one out themselves.

". . ."

The small knight would simply raise it's other hand - the one it doesn't use for gripping it's blade - and open up it's tiny palm towards the creatures.

SHOOOM!

3UnFwYY.gif

A shrill whistling noise consumed the battle as a white light was flung out from the knight's palm, spiraling in the air and taking the shape of some kind of projectile. The scorching magic soared through the air like a bullet and cleaved through the horde without stopping - scorching them alive and sending them flying into the town's buildings, twitching and finally dying. The projectile seemed to cleave through a number of the slugs before colliding with a town building down the way, exploding in a brilliant display of light and setting the building ablaze.

Though it's magical attack seemed to clear a number of the creatures, their assault did not stop. As such, the knight gripped the hilt of it's Nail and gave it a few swings, dashing forward into the horde with reckless abandon. It would do the same as it did to the "mouth demons" the group had fought during the Eclipse - leaping high in the air and slashing the blade downwards to "pogo" off of each creature whilst slicing open their bodies like watermelons. The Knight effortlessly out-sped the creatures this way, never touching the ground and still managing to slaughter a number of the horde without any sign of fatigue.

All the while, the Knight didn't stop it's session of "thinking". As it tore through the horde, it thought about what it was doing. It was using it's abilities and Nail to prevent the creatures from attacking it or it's. . .other people. . .by stopping them from living. It was. . ."slaying".

It was "killing". And they were "dying".

Yes, those are the new words of the hour.

"We never did specify which church after all." Grace responded to the guard. "Look from what I could tell from earlier this job is a heavy drain both mentally and physically. Just lock yourself inside the cell and tell your superiors that we overpowered you and we can just call it a-"

"Oh please, spare me your sudden senses of morality." Ciel stated coldly once the guard was knocked out cold by Sebastian's punch. "He was merely knocked out. If I had ordered Sebastian to kill him, there would have been much more blood.

If we had merely disarmed him, what exactly would have stopped him from alerting the other guards to our presence? If you hadn't taken notice, we just lied to the man's face and helped one of their prisoners escape. I do not believe that he was in any mood for negotiation."

And with that, Ciel continued onwards, with Sebastian following closely behind him.

Ciel stated in a tone which was just as cold as ever before turning to his butler. "Sebastian, go take care of those vile creatures. And try to make it quick. I do not wish to spend any more time here than is necessary."

"Of course, my lord. I shall have it done within the minute." The demon replied as he pulled out another set of knives in each hand before breaking out into yet another sprint and running out the door.

Once he was outside, Sebastian threw the knives while still sprinting with near perfect precision, attempting to impale each of the slugs.

"The self restraint your demon exhibited was truly impressive." Grace responded to Ciel. "But perhaps next time we can try a more diplomatic approach with no violence? Food for thought." She knew it wasn't worth it however and instead followed Guts to where they were needed.

"If your concern is that we become allies then rest assured that a common goal is the only thing that has brought us together." If this black swordsman wanted reassurance about any lack of bonds then Grace was going to provide that.

Trapped, and outnumbered, Lucatiel knew their likelihood of surviving this battle was dwindling; it was only a matter of time before the horde of these slug creatures overwhelmed them in a war of attrition, rather than a clash of strengths. Despite it all, she refused to give into the impending urge to run... As a knight of Mirrah, she would fight to the bitter end... Not just for her own survival... But for the sake of the very person she and the others had gone through the effort of saving.

Eyeing the woman Siegward was now carrying, as he fought the slugs at the same time... Lucatiel decided to keep close to the woman on Siegward's care, as she was likely the most vulnerable of the group. The mention of "backup" was merely background noise to her, as she continued to slice away at the incoming horde of slugs... Her movements never faltering, but it was hard to say how long it will be before she begins to tire...
