"Indeed." Ciel replied with a nod. "Once I find the perpetrator behind my parents' murder, Sebastian will eat my soul." Ciel said as he put the eypatch back on.

"However, until then, he must serve me at my beck and call. He serves
me and me alone."

"Do you regret the decision to sell your soul, Ciel?" Ben asks seriously. "It's for an important reason, but do you have other people around who'll miss you once your soul gets digested in your butler's belly?"

"That was very kind of you, but I'm quite all right. I get the feeling that quiet moments such as these will be incredibly sparse as we continue on this journey, so I wanted to take time to pray."

As Grace joined them, Libra would nod. "To tell the truth, my faith has kept me going for as long as I can remember. Comsidering how cruel the world can be, it is unfortunately common for hope and faith to be lost."

"Oooh, I'd love to hear all about it!" As the conversation turned to herself, however, Sumia got a bit embarrassed. "Well, you see...I'm an incredible clod. I tend to trip over absolutely nothing so often, and simple tasks can turn into disasters if I'm not careful! But even still, I do love helping people, so I joined the Shepherds anyway. And ever since, I've actually gotten much better at not messing up constantly..." She paused a moment and sighed. "...But it still happens, even now."

"Hey no worries Sumia. Gals like you can ask me the skinny any time," Morte stated before continuing to the actual question. "As long as I can remember, and even longer then that!" Morte replied with a grin. "It's a really long story so I wont bore you with the details, but maybe...when this is over we can have ourselves a little break and I'll tell ya all about it. What about you, Sumia?" Morte asked in turn. "Why does a pretty gal like you run around in all of that armor?"

Grace had looked from a distance and seeing Libra finished with his prayers came walking towards him and Lindel. "Your devotion to your craft is highly admirable," Grace replied to Libra as she came walking up. "Even in a situation like this it is important to stay on the path of virtue you have in front of you, it's just a shame a lot of people forget about it."

@Yun Lee @Takumi

Lindel closed his eyes for a moment, in truth, he still was getting used to others company, but Libra's company wasn't so bad. Maybe it was because the mage was used to him so far.

"It'll likely be a long journey, so these moments will be appreciated, no matter how scarce." Lindel nodded, as Grace joined them he gave a nod in greeting to her as well.

"No." Ciel stated flatly as he stared at Ben. "It was my own decision which I made. Doubts and regrets are for the weak." Pausing, Ciel would close his eyes and inhale before continuing. "There may be people who will miss me, however, they are none of my concern. They will simply have to move on."

Josh looked over at him. " I hate to say it, but that isn't fair to the people who will miss you. Moving on isn't a simple process and it isn't an easy way. Sometimes it is next to impossible especially if they don't understand why you left." He looked over in the distance, remembering his own dead sisters as he said this.

After all that had happened, Kaine only did what was fitting for their decision to camp out for the night: going to sleep. She didn't plan on staying up a bit to talk to people, not when the current situation could mean a lot of bad encounters in the near future. She figured that resting up her energy was the better option, much to her friend Emil's dismay. Some people would see that Kaine had fallen asleep with her twin blades right in her hands' grip.

❝ Uh... ❞ Emil wasn't sure on how to pass the time now that Kaine straight-up fell asleep. Due to his condition, he didn't exactly have the need to sleep. So maybe it wouldn't be a problem to talk to some others, get to know them a tad better. Everyone was working together, so that meant everyone here had to be allies... at least that's what Emil thought.

❝ Hey, am I... interrupting? ❞ the boy awkwardly asked once he figured to join the conversation that Ciel, Ben, and Josh were having.

Grace nodded to Libra's words. "Even in the darkest of places there's light. Sometimes it's just hard to get it to shine through. Like right now." She motioned around the campsite. "We are all stuck in a very dark situation, but if we succeed perhaps some light will break through in the end."

"Aw, being a bit clumsy isn't too bad. Just gotta get back on that horse, which it sounds like you already do so that's good right?" Morte replied as he floated around her. "I've learned that if you have something pulling you down you point it towards the guys you don't like. That way you can drop those bad guys on their asses twice as fast!"

Nodding to support Grace's observations, Libra would add, "When no light appears, it falls on us to make it ourselves. Otherwise, we risk a fall into darkness." A pause. "Oh-where are my manners? Would you care to sit with us, Miss Grace? I don't believe we've had the pleasure of a conversation without facing some sort of adversary at the same time."

Ah.

Done.

The Hollow Knight stared into the dirt for awhile, having found itself patiently sitting away from most of the present conversations, though it was still well at the camp, sitting near the warmth of the fire and doing nothing that looked presently important. The little knight wasn't used to staying so still for long periods of time. It never found itself sleeping voluntarily, either.

Perhaps that's why it had found itself watching everyone else sleep the night before.

Yet, now, it was preoccupied with scratching it's sword along the dirt, drawing something like a young child would. The knight wasn't very experienced in it's craft - a number of defective works surrounded the finished product - but now it looked upon it's creation and. . .stared. It was a stick figure on a horse. It had spikes on it's head, and what looked like a sword. It's "eyes" were just two sunken dots in the dirt, and it had lines on it's head that made the head look like a skull.

". . ."

The knight tilted it's head to the side. Something was "odd" here. It lifted it's sword and began drawing something next to the horseman.

skrrrkskrrskrrrskrrrr

It was another stick figure. But it was much, much smaller. It had the same two, sunken "eyes" on it, but instead of looking like a skull, it had a pair of horns protruding from it's head. It had a little sharp Nail in it's little arm. It was drawn next to the stick figure on the horse.

". . ."

The little ghost lifted it's head up to look at the other people there. They were talking. Hollow Knight would silently listen, occasionally lowering it's head to stare at it's pitiful dirt drawings.

"Not the best way to put it, but I guess you made the decision and you stuck to it," Ben says, "no turning back for you. Not that I was going for one to begin with, but I'm a bit tired to come up with a rebuttal for that. You guys wanna hit the hay soon?"

In reality, Ben wanted to end the conversation, since the only way it could go was digging deeper into Ciel.

"Good night, Ciel," Ben says, then turns to others in the vicinity, "good night Astolfo, good night girls, good night everyone..."

Even after an hour, Ben Tennyson couldn't sleep, so he decides to sit beside someone else who couldn't sleep either - the diminuitive Hollow Knight.

Perhaps others were there to join him.

"Nice drawings, little guy. I think we got off to the wrong start yesterday," Ben greets the little one. "Must be lonely in this world of oversized people, huh? Good thing I'm the guy who's every shape and size."

Ben smacks his Omnitrix down, and in his place, some sort of technoorganic being, a single inch tall, dwarfing the already-dwarfed Hollow Knight.

khPuWUG.jpg

"Nanomech!" the being, Nanomech as it was called, speaks as it inched(or rather, nanometred) towards Hollow Knight. From the perspective of the little knight, it was a deep, adult voice. If others were listening, they would intepret it as a high-pitched, squeaky voice that was hard to take seriously. "Can't sleep, huh? Neither can I. To be honest, I'm a bit too worried about things to shut my eye and lay down."

Nanomech lays his tiny body on the floor, gazing into the sky.

"That Ciel kid's tough on the outside. Wonder what he's actually afraid of? Peacocks? Clowns? Not that I am or was ever afraid of those. Ahahaha... that'd be ridiculous."

"No. I prefer to sleep alone, and out here happens to be more isolated than in whatever shelter you conjured up."

"..."

Nanomech continues to look up into the star-studded sky.

The dimunitive Hollow Knight didn't seem to immediately react to Ben showing up and demonstrating his ability - his shape and size suddenly changing did cause the Knight to twitch it's hands, as if it was ready to draw it's Nail and defend itself from the sudden movement. Once it noticed that Nanomech wasn't doing anything, it'd simply stare at the small Ben, and then stare at Ciel who had begun to talk.

It mimicked the tiny creature's movement like a child would, laying on it's back and looking upwards at the sky.

View attachment 2110

Truthfully, the small knight never saw the sky. Scraps of old thought - memories, they were called - pieced together to form images of decrepit, hollow ruins lying in the cold underground beneath a fading town. It could not look into it's memories and recall seeing a starry night such as this. It could only see the dripping ceiling of a damp cavern. This was something new.

As it listened to the two men talk, the small knight lowered it's head, and then drifted it back up.

It had just nod it's head to Ben. Like it had just acknowledged what he said. The little thing could not speak, but it seems as if it could listen.

"You don't talk too much, do you?" Nanomech asked. "That makes me wonder what goes on in that gnoggin of yours. Guess that's a mystery for another day."

Nanomech, still lying down with his singular eye staring into the sky, laughs for a bit, then ponders.

"I was just thinking - maybe if we had a little spar, we could expel a little energy and be a bit more inclined to sleep the night away. What do you say? Let the stars and probably Ciel over there be our only audience?"

Morte pondered Sumia's question for a moment. "I mean there's people who use their drunkenness as a weapon, or so I've heard. You're a smart gal, I bet you could figure it out."
