“You’re not pack yet. Can’t let you go and be useful yet.” Chloe grumbled to herself as she walked down the sidewalk back towards Desmond’s place. In the balmy weather, she probably wouldn’t make it all the way without calling a cab, but her disappointment in not being able to go with Desmond needed to be moped over. She was hoping that she would finally belong to something that she wanted to be a part of.

She sighed and folded her arms behind her head. She had chosen them, hadn’t she? She’d given up on her life before she met them, she had chosen Desmond and the Bloodstones. Didn’t they understand that?

She turned the corner and continued walking, keeping her eyes forward. She’d been so lost before, having moved to the city after losing everyone back home. The Society- well specifically it’s leader Alexandre- had reached out to her. Alexandre had offered shelter and safety where she had none. More importantly, he promised the ability to protect others from her. Every night before she met the Bloodstones, she had been caged away, chained to a wall and locked up tight to prevent her from getting out and hurting more people.

The Society was- is- one of the largest groups of hunters of the supernatural. Alexandre promised though, they only killed those who they could not capture and convince to rehabilitate themselves or allow the Society to keep them away from humans they could kill or worse- turn- into more supernatural beings.

Alexandre also had a tasked group of scientists working for what he said was a cure to both vampirism and lycanthropy. For lycanthropy, they were also looking for a way to suppress the transformations altogether especially for those who were inflicted with lunentia. He promised her that if she was willing to help with the experimentations, she’d more than likely be the first to get the cure.

He had been so full of promises…

Chloe turned down another street. She’d gone through so many painful experimentations. She endured the poking, the prodding, the surgery after surgery, the painful transformations.. All of it for the smallest of hopes that she’d some day live a normal, human life.

And she’d given it all up for Desmond and the Bloodstone pack. Desmond had given her hope that maybe she could find a new normal and perhaps find some balance to live with the wolf.

Chloe thought she felt the wolf stir, and the smallest of urges to shift sprang up as it rose up in attention. For a moment, she believed it had to do with her thought pattern and memories of the Society. She didn’t realize her hairs on her neck were standing on end until too late.

A woman in a dark hoodie walked up behind her and whispered something in her ear. Chloe’s gaze when slack, the light in her eyes dulled as if she was awake but not there for the moment. As swift as she could, the hooded figure gently pressed something into Chloe’s hand and grabbed her arm with the other hand. She held it there, whispering for a moment longer before drawing back and continuing on her way, hiding the needle back into the hoodie’s pocket. Chloe continued her walk towards Desmond’s home, although looking a bit in a stupor.

She’d make it there eventually, with no memory how she got there.
