Conley Brothers

"Well I'll take care of that if it is" he smiled pleasantly and took a seat "alright then. What do You need me to approve?"

--

"Not teach but I can take one at a time" he told them and offered a hand, letting them decide who he would take

--

Adanya didn't come any closer "I'm sorry..humans can be very mean" she sat down where she was

Leon laid out the different documents labeling the various expenses and items needed. Most were fairly common, things like a bulk order of heavy duty fasteners used for cables and the tightropes, and others were more exotic, like a bulk order of a variety of meats for the big cats. Leon took care of most of the small orders of little expenses that cropped up here and there, but Felix had to co-sign anything over a certain price amount. The only thing that stuck out as different was a single order for a new wagon of a different kind than was usually used.

~~

Tim and Tam discussed it, and Tim stepped forward. "Me!"

~~

He stirred restlessly at the back of the cage. Why wasn't the tarp back? Why couldn't he have the tarp back?? It was quiet and dark and no one bothered him with the tarp. Hugging the side to keep as far away as possible, his amber eyes glinting in the light as he watched the big cat, he made his way back to his nest and rooted around until he found his new pillow. He didn't pull it out, just sat with his hand on it, comforted that it was still there. It and his new blanket had not been stolen. He calmed a little, his breathing no longer quite so ragged.

Felix looked everything over, nodding idly until he came to the wagon"whats this for?" He asked, glancing up at hid brother "another new attraction?"

--

Starnacht took his hand "no letting go ok? Hold tight" he instructed "very bad if let go" he said seirously

--

She let him settle again, noting his glance at the tarp. She couldn't get it on herself but she didn't want to leave him either. "Klondike stay and watch to male sure nobody bothers you..I'm going to get help to put the tarp back ok" she said before speaking softly to the tiger. He sat to obediently wait

"Yes, for that new fellow of yours. It's a setup I saw at the... oh, you know, one of the other two circuses we scouted ages ago," Leon said, waving a hand. "It was one of the cheap ones where the bearded lady was a fellow in drag, the mermaid boy's fins kept falling off, and the dead alien was a malformed cow fetus stuck upside down in a jar. Anyway, one of those little side shows was that wolf boy or whatever he was. Remember that? He was in a little rolling cage like the one we have for the spiney fellow currently, but smaller and with cheap plywood sides. It was pretty clear he didn't actually stay in the thing, just pretended he had to be in there. I saw his actual wagon out behind his cage. I figure, why not do they same with spiny fellow once he's a little less likely to run? He pretends to be caged for a few hours, gets a decent wage, then goes to a regular wagon like the rest of the chaps."

~~

Tim nodded, expression serious. "Okay! No letting go."

~~

Claudius eyed the tiger. Some tiny spark in his brain suddenly told him he could take this fuzzy kitty and could melt this metal like ice before a firestorm!

Wait...

He blinked. Fire? Melt? He shook his head, suddenly confused. Where had that thought come from? Him take on a tiger? He must have truly lost it.

He raised a brow "you do realize we already have a cage wagon we can do that with don't you?" the one the poor guy was already in "Why buy something cheap and fake when we have that? We can simply add a release on the inside so h can let himself out when that time comes" he shook his head "We don't need this extra thing" he didn't see the point in that one.

--

With that Starnacht stepped into the shadows again, Tim would feel a cold wash over him and the world go entirely black, no light at all. He could feel Starnacht pulling him to walk with him but walk on what? It was smooth and black. It was a disorienting feeling.
a moment later and they were under the tree just a little ways off

--

Adanya slipped off and went looking for someone who could help

--

"Yes, but this one is a lot smaller, classier, and we can decorate it splendidly! Plus, it has an extra escape hidden in the back, giving him two escape routes should something happen, which is something we cannot do with our current cage," Leon pointed out. "That should make the tiger mistress happy."

~~

Feet paddling furiously, Tim followed Starnacht, holding on tight. Then they appeared again, and it was like seeing everything new! Tim looked around, fascination. "Pretty!"
"Now me! Please?" Tam begged.

Felix considered this for a moment before looking back at the budget. He nodded "Alright, suppose we can sell the existing one later on then and make up the money" he reasoned

--

Starnacht grinned, happy to be amusing them with his talents. He nodded to Tam and and held his hand out to him, letting go of Tims "Same thing, no letting go ok?" last thing he wanted to do was lose one of them into the shadows

"Exactly my reasoning!" Leon grinned. "I'll put in the order. But until then, your little circus people have to get him into working shape."

"What happens if I let go?" Tam asked curiously.

"I've given Camilla charge over him" Felix said simply "An actual job might quell this new interest in exploring the world" he said "Now then, where did those beers get off too, I could use a drink" Now that the work part of things was discussed, as far as he was concerned, they could relax, eat and talk about other things

-

"Lost in the shadow" Starnacht said "May take a long time to find you, so easy to be lost if you can't see" he said "But hold to me and you won't be lost there"

"She's a growing girl, brother of mine. You're going to have to loosen your grip or risk strangling her," Leon pointed out. "And don't look at me all murderously, you know it's true, or should know it. Not that I have the first idea what to do about it, but that's why you are the great and magnificent boss man." He opened both beers and handed one to Felix. "Good luck raising a lady, old man!" he said cheerfully, raising his glass in salute.

~~

"Okay!" Tam said, accepting the reason. "Let's go!"

Felix sighed and accepted a beer before he chuckled and lifted his beer to his. "I'm not that old little brother" he said before taking a drink "I'm well aware she is no little girl anymore, I know she will spread her wings eventually but you can't blame me for trying to protect her... this world is not kind. I don't want to see her hurt by it" he frowned

--

As before, Star lead him into the shadows, back into the impossible dark, emerging back into the "Light" moments later, towards the back of the wagon

"Of course not! It's one of the few things we can completely agree on," Leon smirked. Then his smile faded. "The thing is... I am just a little worried that perhaps we might have sheltered her a little too much. A tree needs to face a certain amount of wind and storm in order to stand up to the hurricane when it's older." He shrugged. "Or maybe I'm completely off my rocker and not worthy of raising the children I hope to never have."

~~

Tam gasped for breath, having held it the entire trip. "Whee!"

"What are you three up to now?" Vlad chuckled as he walked up to them.

he smirked "Good thing we have her, it's her that keeps us together really" he half joked. Leon had a point, she did need a taste of the world. "Perhaps a supervised night out on the town could be beneficial" he mused before taking another drink of the beer

--

Starnacht smiled brightly when he saw Vlad come back "I showing them what I can do" he told Vlad "You want to see too?" he asked happily, also a bit eager to show Vlad what all he could do, maybe somehow it would be helfpul

Leon raised his beer. "To our sweet baby sister! Who deserves a lot better than us, but we'll keep her anyway," he said with a wink.

~~

"Alright, what can you do?" Vlad asked, smiling as he watched Tim and Tam prancing around and comparing notes in excited gibberish.

he chuckled once "To Camilla" he raised his beer again and smiled a little "I trust you can handle showing her a night out? You're much more suited for that than me" There was a time he did enjoy going out but those days seemed to of gone, ever since a certain someone had disappeared

--

he grinned and held his hand out to Vlad now "I can show, hold on and no letting go ok?" he supposed he could show him first but it was kind of fun to surprise people with it sometimes

Leon considered that then shrugged. "I suppose I could, but she'd be a whole lot happier with we all went. Besides, you know I enjoy getting into a little bit of trouble. You're needed to keep us both on a leash." His eyes twinkled with mischief.

~~

Vlad considered then shrugged and took Starnacht's hand. "Alright. No letting go," he agreed, trying to brace himself for whatever was about to happen.

"You're telling me you can't behave for a single evening? And you wonder why I have to color my hair" he shook his head a little "Fine, tomorrow night the three of us will go out, give her a small taste of the world" he decided, a plan already forming

--

Star stepped into the shadows again, taking Vlad with him. The darkness totally enveloped them, it felt noticeably colder there in the shadow world.

Star didn't go far with him either, not exposing him to that world for too long before they stepped back out several feet away out in the grass, he looked up at Vlad

Leon clapped his hands. "Excellent! I look forward to that. Perhaps at the next town? This one is a bit small for a night on the town."

~~

Vlad caught his breath, his eyes wide as he stared at nothing. "Prin toate focurile cerului..." he breathed. "That was... oh my." He looked down at Starnacht and nodded appreciatively. "You have quite the gift!"

"Here is fine. We'll start small" truth be told, he wasn't sure he was ready for that kind if scene again

--

Starnacht grinned up at him. The white jeweled spots seemed to glow a little brighter, he was happy, he had found s place where he could be accepted

--

Adanya returned with Chib and Ling to help with the tarp.

Klondike had stayed by as he had been told to, keeping guard over the strange thing in the cage. He stood when Adanya came back

Leon shrugged but didn't argue. At least Felix had agreed to come.

~~

"Does it make you tired when you do that?" Vlad asked, worried about any side effects that this skill might have.

~~

He drew back when he saw the new people, watching them warily. What did they want? Was he in trouble? It didn't matter that he hadn't done anything wrong. He was used to being in trouble.
