Camilla gave them an encouraging smile "in that case when Vlad decides you've earned them I'll give them to you" she said "but maybe I can give Star his?" She asked, looking to Vlad again
 
"Certainly, if you like, and you think he has earned his," Vlad said graciously. "I have no doubt the twins will soon earn their own."
 
Camilla looked over at Starnacht "Present? For me?" he asked, both surprised and excited by the prospect, he couldn't remember ever having had a gift before, what was a gift?

"Well, you tell me Vlad" she said with a little chuckle "has he been good and helpful?"
 
"Yes," Vlad said with a quiet smile. "He has done very well for his first day as a part of the circus family."
 
Camilla smiled "Well, in that case..." she opened up her bag and pulled out a wrapped candied apple. "don't eat until after supper" she said and offered it to Star.
Starnacht inched forward, watched her uncertainly for a moment before taking it and moving back "Thanking you" he said softly and smiled a little before he sniffed it curiously
 
"That was very polite, well done," Vlad praised. He pretended not to see the twins clean their plates then begin inching toward him. "Do you know what that is?"
 
Starnacht looked up from the apple "No, smell sweet" he answered "Maybe when I done eating I share some yes?" he asked them with a small shy smile, he wanted the twins to like him
 
"It is called a candied apple, and it is very sweet. It is all yours, so you may share or not share as you like," Vlad smiled. He looked to Camilla and smiled at her. "Thank you."

The twins arrived at Vlad side, and each one took a side, snuggling in close.
 
Star set the apple aside for now, doing as he was told and eating his supper first, he was excited to try this candied apple though! He didn't often get such sweet treats. Yes this place would be nice

Camilla smiled back "Of course, he's one of us now" she said, already fond of the little boy

"Of course," Vlad agreed, but there was a strange note in his tone. He put his arms around the twins and drew them close to him. "Anyway, the new one, how is he doing? Our friendly neighborhood lion tamer is upset he's still caged."
 
"Of course she is? She does not like cages but..I think he would be scared if we upgrade him too fast. The poor dear" she said and it was clear in her eyes that she truly felt for him "I've got him cleaned up and the wounds patched. Gave him a blanket and pillow...going to take awhile for him to trust me I think but he'll be ok given time and love" she frowned slightly "the cuts he had one him....they were so clean and precise like...someone had been doing it on purpose. Why would someone do that?"
 
"I have some ideas," Vlad murmured before he thought better of it, then he added, "but I do not think you want to know, and these three definitly should not hear about them." He indicated Tim, Tam, and Starnacht.

"Can we go meet him?" the twins asked eagerly. They only had the vaguest idea of what they were talking about, but they wanted in on it! And they thought it might have something to do with the mysteriously tarped cage.
 
"Not yet" she said gently "he is very scared of new people. But soon I hope. He can use nice friends but not yet" she tried to explain to them, hoping they would listen "promise not to bother him?"
 
The twins pouted a bit then nodded. "Okay."

"What about Adayna?" Vlad suggested. "It may help her see how slowly we must move if she sees just how badly off he is." He paused. "Or it could anger her worse. That may be a bad idea."
 
"Right..I'll have to sit down and talk with her about it" she sighed "a battle for tomorrow. Much to tired tonight to try and talk with her... good woman but stubborn"
 
Vlad smiled slightly. "No argument there. I do hope you will forgive me for being forward, but you look especially tired this evening. Are you feeling alright?"
 
"Oh it's fine" she smiled a little "I am, I used magic to heal him this morning... strangest thing.. I couldn't finish before I felt totally drained and even after sleeping most of the day I still felt rather drained when I went to see him again to bring him dinner..." she admitted to him, what reason would she have to not be honest "PErhaps I just haven't had enough protein lately"
 
Vlad didn't answer at first as he studied her face. "Did you, perhaps, feel as if you had used your magic when you saw him for dinner?" he asked. "Even though you did not use your magic?"
 
She considered that a moment "well...now that you mention it yeah....It did feel a lot like that" she nodded and watched his face "what are you thinking?"
 
Vlad rubbed his jaw thoughtfully. Instead of answering her question, he asked, "Have you ever worked on anyone or even been around anyone as badly injured physically and mentally as this fellow?"
