Conley Brothers

she nodded then slowly opened the door and climbed in but only went in a short ways and waited for him to come to her, she didn't want him to feel like any of this was forced, at least as much as she could avoid it anyway

He waited. And waited a little more. Why was she sitting there? Did she want him to come to her? That wasn't usually how things were done. He couldn't remember ever being asked to be the one to come forward.

Still cautious of a trap, he inched forward a bit. Then a little bit more. He stopped half way, fidgetting nervously.

"That's it" she said gently "I'm not going to hurt you" she kept a soft gentle tone and tried not to look threatening

She did want him to come to her. He didn't know why, but she wasn't yelling or demanding it of him, so he was slightly more inclined to do as asked. He inched forward until he was only a couple of people away.

Camilla nodded her approval then got out some fresh bandages and things to dress the cuts, every motion she made sure he could see what she was doing and did nothing too quickly "We have to keep those cuts clean and the bandages fresh so, I'm going to change them every day until they are gone" she explained to him "I'm in charge of you now, so I'm going to make sure nobody does this to you again" she spoke as she tended to him, hoping it might help put him at ease

He eyed her, confused. He allowed her to change his bandages and said nothing until she was almost finished. The cuts were healing well, though some of the scar tissue showed an almost scaly texture that was quite odd.

When Camilla was almost finished, he found his voice. "What do you mean?" he asked. He tensed, ready for the blow that would surely accompany such an impertinent question.

"I mean that I am going to take care of you, you're safe here" she said gently to him "Nobody is going to abuse you anymore" she promised him

"Abuse?" he dared ask. She would surely react to his questions eventually, but maybe he could see what he could learn while she was in a good mood.

Her heart ached for this poor fellow, he didn't even realize he had been mistreated? "Abuse means a lot of things but, it means unfair treatment, In your case, someone was hurting you, using you against your will" she tried to explain

He supposed that it made sense, and the meaning fit, but... "Research," he croaked out. "For the master." He wasn't sure why he said that, but it was out now.

She frowned at that word, the cuts, the way they had been done, made sense now "No masters here, no research, no abuse, I want to be your friend"

He looked at her, suddenly more wary. "Friend?" he repeated guardedly. The last friend he had had sold him out to the Master concerning an escape plan so the "fiend" might get a better cage and food. He died a few months later, but his betrayal still cut deep. No one was friends with you unless you had something they wanted.

she could tell be the way he said it that this wasn't something he had good experience with either. This was going to be much harder than she thought "Only if you want" she said and sighed "Can I know your name at least?"

He stared at her a moment. Name, name, yes, he had one, but he hadn't used it in a long time. He had to think for a minute before it came to him. "Claudius," he rasped. A moment more of thought. "Donovan." Another pause. "Theophilus." Shorter pause. "Three."

She listened to him "Claudius Donovan Theophilus the third" she repeated his name "I like it" Somehow it suited him, it also meant he had to have family somewhere but that was for another day. "You probably know already but I'm Camilla"

"Camilla?" he repeated carefully. Camilla was a good name. A slightly odd name, though he wasn't sure why he thought that. It was as normal as any other name. "You are my master?"

"No masters" she repeated gently "I am..your care giver" she tried to explain "I make sure you are ok. Have what you need"

She sighed "vets heal animals not people. I'm not a vet exactly...but I heal so kind of I guess" if it was easier for him to think of her that way then so be it

"Not a people," he said. "Not anymore." He shifted to scratch an itch, shedding a bit of flaking skin from the healing scars. They itched!
