Camilla smiled "I'm glad you all could join us. I'm hoping it will help him learn to trust more." She glanced briefly at the two sitting on the ground

Starnacht nodded "yes.earth...you not touch earth in long time?"
 
"Of course!" Vlad assured her. "It is always a pleasure to share a meal with a friend, and I am honored to be with you to see his first steps out into freedom."

"No," Claudius murmured. He sat down slowly, wary of the earth disappearing out from under him, or perhaps something springing up to attack him, but nothing happened. For the first time, he ignored his food, fascinated by the clump of dirt and sparse grass around him. "There has only been steel and iron for a long time. I... I remember being here before... but it was so long ago."
 
"Couldn't think of anyone better to share it with..." Camilla said with a soft smile "or anyone better for him to learn to trust" she didn't want him to rely only in her.

Star watched him "maybe when want I show you more yes?" He said "we walk and see stars in sky when most go sleep" he offered, happy to see him come out of that cage too
 
Vlad blushed faintly. "I am humbled by your trust in me," he admitted. "Thank you." He raised his cup of water to her. "But it is you whom I salute for getting him this far."

Claudius tipped his head slightly, his long hair tangling in his spines. "Yes," he agreed after a moment. "When everyone else sleeps."
 
she smiled and faintly flushed pink too "Just takes a little care and time... not much" she said, plus patience of course. but she lifted her cup to him too "Just hope he does ok while we're moving

Star smiled brightly "good, I come when all sleep then" he decided before picking up some of the chicken and trying a bite,his eyes brightend up and he quickly took another bite, the little white spots glowed a little brighter too
 
"I am sure he will be fine as long as he has some warning," Vlad told her.

"Can we ride with him?" Tim asked eagerly.

Claudius noticed Star's reaction and finally turned his attention to his food. He gulped it down the way he usually did, grumbling softly in pleasure. Good food!
 
"Maybe next time..He doesn't really like people in the cage with him" except Star apparently

"I'm sure you could visit when we stop at night" she added

Star paused and watched him curiously "why eat so fast?" He asked innocently
 
"Oaky!" the twins agreed, happily accepting the second choice.

Claudius finished and licked his plate clean before answering. "If it is gone, no one can steal it," he stated.
 
He blinked and tilted his head "who steal food?" He asked, still innocent to cruelty "nobody hear take" he motioned around "see. Plenty food for everyone"
 
Claudius studied Star for a moment. Then he reached out and gently patted the top of his head. "Never mind. It matters not."
 
Star frowned a little "I want understand .. If I understand I can help better yes?"
 
Claudius sat back and started grooming his hair to give himself something to do while talking. It helped to distract him from both the subject and the fact that he was Out Side. "I lived in a place where food was given but only allowed for a short time. Other times, I shared space with others, and there was not enough food for us all." He pulled his fingers through his long black hair, watching the strands wind around his claw-like fingernails. "Eat fast."
 
Starnacht listened and nodded as he dud so, truly trying to understand his new friend.

"I think understand. A little" he said "for long time. I was by myself. Sometimes have to fight for my food and not knowing when I eat again" he explained "but here is good. Plenty food, Vlad and Camilla nice too. Promise"
 
Claudius shrugged, his spines rippling in the motion. "Old habits are difficult to change." He lifted his head slightly, looking around the tent. He was starting to feel uneasy out here and wanted to return to his nest, but Starnacht was still here.
 
"I understand" he nodded and watched him again for a moment "you want go back in? Ok if you do" he assured "maybe I come in and we talk more?"
 
"In," Claudius agreed. He turned and moved swiftly if stiffly back into the cage, stumbling a little over the step. He was so stiff! He hadn't even realized how stiff he was until he had to move for something more than crossing the cage. He went straight back to his nest and burrowed in, curling up in the soft patch of rags and fluff, shifting his one nice blanket and pillow delicately so he wouldn't hurt them.
 
Starnacht picked up his plate and climbed in after him, sitting near the door so there was still space between them. He didn't mind doing whatever his new friend was comfortable with, he was a calm sweet kid. Camilla couldn't help but think the timing of his arrival was perfect, he seemed to be a big help to Claudius
 
"And he's back inside, but at least he gave it a try," Vlad commented to Camilla in a low tone. "I am rather impressed with how long he lasted.

Claudius slowly turned and shifted so he could watch Star. He didn't say anything yet, laying out like a crocodile on the bank, watching.
 
"I think your little Star has helped a lot, he was excited to see him again" Camilla said softly to him. For now she wasn't going to mention that her showing what she truly was had helped too, she was sure Vlad would not judge her for not being human but perhaps her brother hiding that part of her and hating it so much affected her more than she realized
 
Vlad smiled faintly. "He has helped me, as well, and the twins talked about him all day. They wanted to play with him, and I had to get them distracted so they wouldn't both him. Not even the thrill of the circus was enough."
