Guest
After leaving the Fringe of Abaddon one will find themselves traversing the vast expanse of the Desert of Pain. There is little plant life for one to sustain themselves in this wasteland, the days are scorching hot, and the nights are freezing cold. With the abundance of hostile wildlife contained within, only the most stalwart and powerful of adventurers can hope to survive the journey through.

Desert of Pain

Underground
It was hot, even as he traveled underground, following the dimly lit tunnels to only Aditi knows where. The only scary thought that crossed his mind was what dangers waited for him at the end of whatever road he was on. Not to mention that these tunnels were directly connected to The Nemesis Catacombs, and the cult of fanatics that made this desert their home.

His eyes managed to see in the dark, but it still unsettled him as he could not sense where he was headed. Galizur hadn’t been walking long. Only a short while ago, he had slipped inside the Temple of Reverence, passed the guards and all the noise as he made his way into the tunnels used to aid in the theft of the Daemon’s Cradle. The smell of the Ethereal, Anariel, was thick in the air as he continued to follow the trail.

Before long, he found an opening. The tunnel seemed to have caved in due to the shifting sands, so it was a relief when Galizur finally crawled up out of the ground, and onto the hot bed of sand above… How was he to follow the trail now?

Chandra Eclav
Desert of Pain

The sun was high in the crisp sky above, its rays cascading down onto the bed of sand below. For miles, there was nothing, not even a single sign of life. The Desert of Pain was eerily calm, a veil of death haunting its vast emptiness. The silence was shattered by the dark elf traversing through the sand in no particular direction. It was easy to get lost in The Desert of Pain; it was even easier to die there. The woman sauntered along, her sword's tip dragging behind her as she loosely held it at her side. It was strange for a living thing to be found in The Desert of Pain, let alone for a person to willingly walk into it. Those who found themselves there prayed to find their way back and those who chose to go there were looking for death's hand to take hold of them. Chandra continued to walk through the desert, a slight grin on her face as sweat beaded off of her forehead and down her breasts. She felt strangely at home in a place that claimed so many lives but why had she traveled out there? Abaddon had grown boring, the civilians were spreading rumors about the cradle going missing and their small talk tired her. Though she was curious, was it true? Was the cradle actually missing? The curiosity that consumed her and the boredom she was feeling pushed her out of Abaddon and into The Desert of Pain. If the cradle was missing, the search for it would be the most excitement she would have experienced in a long time.

The woman pressed forward until she noticed a figure emerge from the sand. A boy. The boy from the fight with the golem; Galizur. Children are so irritating... she thought for the second time. Chandra sighed and attempted to walk by him without paying any regard. The dark elf had very little luck, though, Galizur yelled at her as she passed. "HEY! Where do you think you're going, woman! We're in the fucking desert and you're just going to walk by me like that? Do you even know who I am!?" The boy's words sliced through Chandra's ears and she stopped in her place, turning on her heel to face him, Libidine still loosely held at her side. "In fact, I do know who you are. You're that pathetic kid from the golem attack, you know, the one who got snatched up like a useless baby and waited for mommy to save him."

Galizur's face wrinkled with anger, his brows furrowing, his mouth frowning, and his teeth gritting. The boy'
s hands cupped into a fist as he listened to the woman's words. It was clear that Chandra's poisonous tongue had gotten underneath the boy's skin as he was now pulling himself to a standing position and reaching for a knife on his belt. "What did you say, whore? A pathetic kid, huh? I don't need my mo-" he stopped short, "I don't need Aeriseth for anything and I'm going to prove it..." Galizur began to advance on Chandra, his knife in hand. Had the heat of the desert driven him mad?

Chandra looked at the advancing Galizur with a tired expression, the boy's antics were beginning to bore her more than walking through the desert aimlessly. She sighed heavily, closing her eyes, might as well make the most fun out of this as I can. The dark elf's eyes opened to reveal nothing but a blood red colour entrenching them; the whites to her eyes had disappeared and she clearly looked demonic. Chandra focused on the boy, taking hold of his rage and smiling sadistically as Galizur's quick-paced steps suddenly stopped. The boy now stood there, motionless, as if he was a puppet waiting for his strings to be pulled. Chandra walked slowly toward him, her sword dragging behind her, she stopped just inches away from his face and ran her cheek along his as she studied him. "You see child, there is nothing for you to prove here. You're weak... you're useless. Mother dearest has certainly done a good job at keeping you alive but what are you going to do now that you're out here all alone in the desert with a big bad wolf?" The dark elf laughed softly into his ear, removed her cheek from his and stepped back as she dragged her finger across his neck. Chandra's hand ran down the boy's arm and toward his blade, she dragged her fingers across its cool steel and laughed more loudly this time. "It wouldn't look good if I killed the Envoy's only son, even if she finds you repulsive I'm sure she would still have my head for that. Instead..."

The dark elf looked towards the blade in his hand and took another step back from him, her blood red eyes locked on him. "You'll do it yourself." A sinister smile spread from ear to ear as she focused Galizur's anger toward himself. The boy's eyes filled with panic, he couldn't control his body and an unshakable rage filled every inch of him. Chandra began to laugh, her manic voice echoing through the deserts as she saw the boy's face morph into a frenzied barbarian. Galizur's hand raised the blade to his neck, the cold steel pressed hard against his skin. The laughing grew louder with each breath, more insane with each passing second. The boy's hand swiftly moved across his neck, the cold steel of the blade slicing his carotid artery open. Blood splattered over the desert sands and began to pool as Galizur's body dropped to the ground. Lifeless. Chandra's manic laughter subsided into a small chuckle as she walked toward the boy's body. She knelt down, looking at his face against the hot ground. "You shouldn't have called me a whore."

~Alexander- Oblitus, Desert of Pain~
Alexander glanced back at the group as they left the tunnel, entering the desert. He sighed as he looked around seeing nothing but sand. Seeing figures not to far off, he flew towards them. As he drew closer his eyes widened at the sight before him. There stood a dark elf next to...Galizur's body. As much as he disliked the boy, he was still his Aeriseth's son and to see him dead took him by surprise and sadness. Looking at the elf with stern eyes, he asked, "What happened here? To Galizur?" He didn't want to look back at the body or the pool of blood that stained the golden sands, he didn't want to see what once was.

~Lila Nender-Oblitus, Desert of Pain~

Lila smiled at Mina. " I'm Lila Nender, collector of many things." She grinned at Mina, giving the girl a wink. "Ribbon dancer, huh? I would love to see you dance some time. " She looked around as they came to the desert, noticing a familiar beauty. "Hey, Chandra!" she waved at the elf happily, excited to see her face again. It was then she noticed the blood which led to..."Oh!" she said, holding her hand over her mouth in shock. She looked at Galizur's body, as she began shedding tears. Yeah, from the encounters she had with him he came across as a little shit, but he was still just a child. Someone who was young and reckless who had his youth cut off. Lila looked away from the scene, choosing to stare at the sand below them. "He was so young." she whispered, crying.

Mina - Desert of Pain
As soon as Mina stepped onto the sand her feet started to burn. Maybe she should have taken Lila up on her offer after all... She froze when she saw the body of Galizur lying in the sand, and her face paled. Falling uncharacteristically silent, she tore her eyes away from the grisly sight and looked at the dark elf in horror before shifting her gaze to Aeriseth. She resisted the morbid urge to look back at Galizur again. Mina had seen her share of dead bodies in her time, but it was never something to get accustomed to. To see a life snuffed out so easily... She turned away.

Eddie Toorn - Desert of pain

Eddie's friendly greeting to the charming dark elf was cut short as he spotted the body of Galizur, blood pooling from his throat. He felt pity for the poor boy, wishing he could've found a way to reach him before this had happened, but the desert of pain was cruel to even the strongest of warriors. His heart ached as he saw Lila burst into tears, holding her close as a shoulder to cry on. He merely looked over to Chandra, his eyes accepting of the events that took place here, no matter what they may be.

Aeriseth
Desert of Pain

Aeriseth followed the group out of the tunnel, she had lazily lagged behind them, whether on purpose or not would remain a mystery. She stepped into the sand and studied the group that was supposed to retrieve the cradle, however, all of them had diverted their eyes from something. What could it be? she thought, whatever it is these vermin can't even stomach it. How in Lucifer's name are they supposed to retrieve the cradle if they can't even swallow the Desert's realities. "Come now, move out of the way and let me through," she demanded as she passed by the turned heads and tears making her way to Alexander.

Galizur? Aeriseth thought as she stared at his limp body hugging the sand, his head cradled in a pool of blood. She stared at him, unknowing what to do. The maternal instinct in her was crying for her dead son but the Envoy instinct of her pitied him. Her feelings were torn between reacting to the situation or simply responding to it. Her facial expression was unwavering as she stared down at him, not even bothering to kneel at his side or place a hand on him to determine if the sight in front of her was real or not. Pathetic... she thought. The son of an Envoy and you get yourself killed in a matter of hours being in Oblitus. Here I thought you were beginning to grow a backbone by telling me off back in Abaddon but you have only proven me right once again; you truly are useless. Truly pathetic... at least now I don't have to feel let down by a son I wish I never had. Aeriseth's gaze moved from Galizur to the mysterious dark elf who was now standing up from beside his bloodied body. "Tell Alex what happened and get a move on. We have work to do."

The cold woman walked away from the group and in the direction they were originally heading. Her eyes moved to the corner of her shoulder, she was half-tempted to look back but ultimately decided against it. Be at peace, my no good son.

Chandra Eclav
The Desert of Pain

Chandra rose to her feet as more and more people appeared at the scene. Some of the people were familiar to her, she smiled when Eddie and Lila arrived and made a mental note to play with them later on. Chandra looked at the rest of the group, all of them averting their eyes from the dead boy beneath her. She didn't understand their gesture, death was a natural occurring act in the world and an exciting one at that. Little did they know that she was the one who delivered the boy his fate. Chandra watched Aeriseth as he stared down at the body and remembered that this, was his mother. She seemed to not care as she gave her an order and then continued walking ahead of them. Chandra then turned her attention to Alexander, she remembered him from the golem attack from earlier on.

"The desert must've driven him mad because the poor kid slit his throat." Chandra exclaimed, not batting an eye or even appearing affected by the scene before her. "Well then, what is going on? Why are you all out here?"

Alexander-Desert of Pain~
Alexander sighed as he answered Chandra. "We are going to look for the Cradle, if you want to join." He said, before quickly catching up to Aeriseth. He looked at her with his flat, bored gaze. "Indifference? Sadness? Or both?" He asked as he placed his hand on her shoulder in reassurance. He knew deep down despite how she thought of him, he was still her son.

Lila was comforted by Eddie holding her, taking a moment to cry in his embrace. Lila shook her head and wiped her eyes, her face hardening. "It's the natural order of things." She frowned at herself for crying. It was pathetic, she wasn't new to death. In fact, she had been close to it a number of times herself. Even though, she hadn't been out here in the Oblitus, she remembered the stories she was told and the danger that was out here. It was foolish to cry over someone's foolish actions. She eyed Chandra with a raised eyebrow, instantly feeling as if there was something more than what Chandra was telling them. She mentally shrugged, however it happened it happened and that was that...maybe it was for the best. "So Chandra will you be joining us?"

Mina - Desert of Pain
Mina continued to look away, her eyes getting a distant look in them before she realized that they were already moving on. She barely registered what little conversation had taken place and merely followed the two Envoys numbly.

She didn't feel sad for Galizur's death. She'd only ever known him for a few minutes, after all. However, seeing the body had triggered some unpleasant memories for her, and it was all she could do to keep from reliving them in her head. One thing was for sure: Oblitus was just as terrible as she remembered.

Eddie Toorn - Desert of Pain

His eyes were focused on the prone body of Galizur. He couldn't pull them away, a mixed feeling of sorrow welling up in his gut, but why it was there for him, Eddie wasn't sure. He hadn't even noticed Lila leave his embrace to talk to Chandra. Suddenly, the flash of red that he'd seen before appeared, and in his mind he knew only one thing. He needed to burn the boy's body. It was only fair, no one deserves to rot in the Oblitus.

He kneeled down to the prone body of Galizur, and spoke words he'd never spoken before. "Be at peace by Satan's side." He lit the body aflame, watching to make sure his body turned to ash. Suddenly, the fires turned black and seemed to rise high in the sky. He heard a laugh echo in his mind, one that felt familiar but at the same time, not. The black flames shot off in the direction they were moving at a speed Eddie had never seen before. He stumbled back, crawling away from the ashes of Galizur. He looked at his hand, scared and confused. "What the hell was that?"

Aeriseth
Desert of Pain

The succubus heard Alexander's familiar voice speaking to her but she didn't pay him any attention, rather she couldn't pay him any attention. The woman knew how important it was for Galizur to stay alive and after being in the desert for mere hours he was dead. She had failed and because of it was confused on how to feel about the situation. How would she have felt when she was Lillith? The thought stopped before it even began. Aeriseth turned her head slightly toward Alexander, she forced a grin at him to ensure he wouldn't be suspicious of her. "He was stupid for coming out here, he did it to himself," she remarked, choking down any hint of worry. Faking came easy to her, she no longer felt emotions like she used to. The woman no longer cared for much anymore, she was more concerned with who would be her nightly conquest and how to satisfy her thirst than anything else. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the black flames rise from her dead son's body and into the air, shooting off into the distance. It was as if the black flames were searching for something.

Aeriseth turned at the peculiar sight, somewhat interested now. The black flames had disappeared and so had Galizur's body. She looked at the group of them huddled around where her son once lay. She placed an inquisitive hand on her chin and "hmm'd" out loud. It was likely that only she knew what had happened; this was a secret that she even kept from Alexander. Part of her didn't want to believe it and that was the reason she didn't race after her son when he disappeared into Oblitus but seeing the marvel unfold before her, confirmed her deepest fear. "Stop standing around, we have to go. Dark elf, make up your mind if you're coming or not." Just like that she turned on her heel and began walking toward their original destination again, her pace had quickened in silent desperation or panic for the inevitable chaos that was about to engulf Terrestia. And so he returns...

Chandra
Desert of Pain

Chandra watched Lila in a seductive manner as she asked whether or not she would be joining them. Something about death always excited her and she often felt the primal urge to satisfy her inner calling in times like these. "I have nothing better to do, so I might as well. Besides... there are a number of divine creatures on whatever the hell this supposed to be." Chandra looked to Mina and licked her lips, though she was referring to the entire group. I wonder what the likelihood of all of... probably not likely. Pity.

Eddie had approached the dead boy as Chandra fantasized about having all of them at once and lit him on fire. Exciting. The fire morphed into black flames that flew into the sky, leaving only behind ashes. The dark elf stared at the situation, unknowing what to think. "This day is fucked up."

Alexander- Desert, Oblitus
Alexander narrowed his eyes as he watched Aeriseth. He had come to know her better than anyone he had even known, so he knew when things weren't as they were. With a sigh, he said nothing more on the matter as he watched the flames raise into the sky. "Should we follow that?" he said, looking at Aeriseth. "Maybe our best lead." he said, as he started following in the direction the flames went. He shook his head. He knew exactly what this meant.

Lila Nender- Desert, Oblitus
Lila smirked at Chandra's gaze, sending a wink towards the elf as they continued on. It would be nice to have fun with her later on. All her thoughts were pushed aside as she watched Eddie walked over to the body and set it on fire, only for black flames to rise from it. She watched the fire for a minute before looking back at Eddie and rushing towards him. "Are you okay, Eddie?" she asked, kneeling beside him with a worried expression.

Mina - Desert of Pain
Mina forced the bad memories out of her head. This isn't the time, she thought. Her head jerked up when the black flames went streaking past. What the?

Mina looked around to see that Eddie had burnt Galizur's body. She wasn't sure how she felt about that. Needless to say, she turned back around anyway; it wasn't important. Or... Was it? When Mina saw Aeriseth's face, she banished the thought. "You know what that was," Mina said to her, her tone a little more accusatory that was probably appropriate. "Care to share?" Normally she wouldn't have been nearly as blunt, but her emotions were all over the place at the moment, and patience was not the top priority.

Eddie Toorn - Desert of Pain

Eddie stared at his hand, his mind a complete mess. What's happening to me? He thought to himself. As Lila crouched down beside him, he couldn't think of any words to actually tell her, so he just started babbling. "The red flash... I saw it again, Lila. The flash happened and all of a sudden it was like my body was moving independent of my will.... what's happening to me?" He looked up at the Envoys, Alexander moving forward and Aeriseth staring back at him with a knowing look in her eyes.

He stood and advanced upon Aeriseth, the tips of his hair flickering. "Why did I burn your son's body?! You know, don't you?! I don't know what kind of sick experiment you Envoys are testing, but I refuse to let you test it on me any further! Give me my free will back!" His voice started to crack, he was scared, shell-shocked, the last time this happened was in New Eden, and now fifty five years later it decides to happen again, three times in a row. He needed to know if he was going insane or not.

Aeriseth
Desert of Pain

Lady Death stared at Eddie as he yelled at her, a smile forming on her face, which quickly grew into manic laughter. Seeing the man so afraid and so desperate excited Aeriseth. Her laughter began to fade as a pink hue washed over her golden eyes. Aeriseth's hair began to stand on end as she grinned seductively at the pathetic man making demands toward her. Her hand reached out and cupped Eddie's chin in a tight grasp. She turned his head with slow movements of her hand as she studied his face with her pink eyes. "Free will is a joke, angel. I would suggest backing down before I take your head off, you ought not forget who you're dealing with, boy." The woman did not like to be challenged. "Now then, let's kiss and makeup shall we? Forget this little mishap ever happened. I don't really feel like killing anyone right now. So stop pouting and give momma a kiss." Lady Death winked at Eddie, her golden eyes returning.

The succubus let go of the man's chin with a gentle throw backward, she looked at the others who were questioning her and scoffed slightly. "Would you like to continue with what you were saying? Or shall we follow Alex's brilliant suggestion and follow those black flames?" Aeriseth looked back at Alexander, puckering her lips and making a kissing gesture in his direction. "Glad to know you're not just devilishly good looks, Alex."

Alexander-Desert
Alexander only shook his head at the situation, knowing Aeriseth had it under control. Despite that he didn't not enjoy the face that this mere musician had the nerve to talk to Aeriseth the way he did, the man wasn't Galizur so there would be almost nothing to end him here and now. After Aeriseth pushed Eddie back and spoke to him. He only shook his head and sighed. "Let's go." he began to walk, not bothering to look back to see if the others started to follow.

Lila Nender-Desert
Lila looked on in surprise as Eddie spoke about the red flashes once more, only to watch as he yelled at the Envoy and get shoved away from her. With a shake of her head, she walked over to Eddie once more. "Eddie, I don't think it'll be good to lose it to the people who may be your only source of answers. You're anger is justified, don't get me wrong. Just approach these things when you have a clearer head, love." She said, putting her hand on his shoulder. "Come on, we have to get going." She looked up at Aeriseth with a frown, before shaking her head once more.

Mina - Desert of Pain
Mina scowled at the response she received, but wisely chose not to respond other than some unintelligible muttering under her breath. For the first time in a long while, Mina was experiencing doubt about her decision to come on this journey. The display between Eddie and Aeriseth was just another reminder that her powerless self, quite honestly, wouldn't be much help even if they did find the Daemon's Cradle. She felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. I really am just going to get myself killed this time, aren't I?

Though the sun was blazing hot, Mina pulled her cloak a little closer around her shoulders at the thought. As she walked, she watched the sand skitter across the ground as the wind seemed to be picking up.

Eddie Toorn - Desert of Pain

Eddie certainly felt humiliated by Aeriseth's little demonstration at his expense. He couldn't tell whether the Envoy was threatening him or flirting with him, but being the creator of the Succubi, it was probably both. He felt Lila's hand on his shoulder as she said the words he knew were right. "Yeah, you're right." He looked at his right fist as he clenched it and then opened it again in determination. I will not become a tool to be used.

He unfurled his wings, keeping one above him and another above Lila. "This should keep the heat off us a little, come on." After a while of walking through the desert, he noticed the wind starting to pick up. He'd encountered sandstorms before in his first journey through the Desert and knew that their was no real way to avoid them. He'd managed to shield his eyes with his wings, and could probably do the same for Lila. He wasn't sure how Chandra and the dancer would make it through though.

Desert of Pain

Chandra watched silently as the events unfolded in front of her, normally she would have something to highly inappropriate to comment but something kept her silent. The dark elf sighed as she began to follow Alexander as he walked off. The wind began to pick up and Chandra sighed even heavier. She was accustomed to the harsh environments of Oblitus, she grew up there for a majority of her life and as an adult she often ventured into the lands on a bounty. Her arm raised above her brow to at least shield her eyes from the imminent sand.

Aeriseth
Desert of Pain

Lady Death smiled like a small child and then skipped toward Alexander as he began to walk off. "Oh, Alex! Wait for me baby!" she yelled at him as she caught up. Her arms playfully slung over his shoulders and she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, knowing that he would be annoyed by the act. Aeriseth released her arms from around him, giggling and taking her position beside him as they walked. She wondered if the man knew she was hiding something or if he truly was tricked by her facade. Either way, the woman was satisfied that no one continued to question her.
