Five years ago the sky cracked open a violet arc of light that could be seen anywhere across the globe. It's unexplained so far as to its origins or source. A cosmic anomaly, sense then however the world has begun to change. Now five years later it's effects are starting to become a reality more visible to the world instead of whoever the sources are alone.
Myths and fables have started to seem real. Reports that seemed just superstition of old is now all to real. A relic in a museum once a sought after artifact now actually radiates power. It's legend now made able to manifest. Rumblings of a beast heard by cave divers, the source unseen but the sound beyond the scopes of any animal. Hard to know if things were already below the ocean depths or birthed from the evolving world, but tales of sirens and monsters attacking ships have started up. Across the stars we now actually hear others, NASA claiming it's actually commuted with alien life. Science once thought impossible has started to click and become real.
Amongst the populace people have started showing gifts that are super human. It's source isn't always the same, for some they start going through puberty and learn they can also fly. For some it's sparked from nothing, just wake up yesterday knowing they've been gifted with power. There's a story out there of a couple that just liked biting in times of intimacy until one full moon they found them discovering themselves as vampires. Of a magician doing the old make assistant disappear, only for her to actually vanish. Stories like this go on and on...

Three years ago stories start becoming more public knowledge
Two years ago discussions on a political level start. As of yet there's no laws or actions taken to absorbed in the back and forth.
A year ago, stories start coming up of actual criminal activity or factions wanting to use these gifts to exploit or harm others.
Present day the first of the heroes and villains becomes public...

A setting where everyone is very much some of the first of their kind. You might not be an ancient vampire but if you woke up that way five years ago you may be among the oldest. There's mutations that might spark from trauma or a blissful moment that nobody could be prepared for. Vigilantes aren't really even spoken of yet, hushed rumors of gangs maybe but nothing on the news. Heroes aren't real until the opening event basically.
The idea being every player starts at ground zero and hasn't had to much time to develop yet. Think your Year Zero/One comics. Of the intro parts of movies where it's poorly made costumes of spray painted hoodies or onesies ordered offline. Maybe been thinking of becoming a hero but certainly aren't outfitted like one. Which hopefully will encourage chances for characters to grow. And powers to develop. In a lot of ways anything goes in ideas, the character just is more at the start. It's not just another superhero sand box setting though a few extra things. This is planned to be just one thread. Two or three most, where one would be the event and the other the interactions between those events. And I am 110% open to writing whatever you need for an idea to work. Sometimes one wants to talk to Zeus or the President but it doesn't feel as doable. I want to be the DM for others when need be
Rules and Info
One bad person, one good person limit. A lot of times seen people get lost in numerous ideas end up with a bunch of alts that then get lost in the shuffle. The idea here would be to really try and stick to one, see them through to the end. Even a cop or a monster etcetera falls into that criteria of doing more harm or good. Want a new character? Write the current one out.
Cooperation, everyone loves the edgy lone wolf type. But should try and make them able to at least work with others begrudgingly. I don't want to limit anyone's creativity but it's not going to be a bunch of threads and characters so would advise being mindful of how well that character can bounce off others. For an example Batman and Ironman may have plans if have to fight Hulk or Supes but they still are om a team.
Power Limits, I want you to make the character you want. However I'd encourage keep any hero types more street or mid tier, villain types might be higher but shouldn't be overly so. I want it to be more teamwork not the heroes can't do anything to the alien and with a single punch all of Nebraska is wiped out. Maybe it gets to that point in time but ideally it's built up to. That's the other thing I'd like to add, don't have to but I really want to encourage room to grow instead of having all the expertise or gear.
Factions, it's common to say have a bunch of robots to do bidding or alien thugs, a gang of animal mask wearing weirdos. These should be more npcs though let it be fun opposition instead of a bunch of powerful significant members. Maybe you're a Joker with a bunch of jesters, but let Harley and Punchline be another player. Or maybe write that general who when they're stopped that boss can pull up. Additionally try and keep these kind of small, having a fun invasion doesn't need a bazillion force army. The focus should be heroes VS villains not hero's s VS all of Warhammers factions at once.
Looks, feel free to use characters for inspiration. However they should be radically different than the source. I'd also encourage trying to use lesser known looks. Rather then fight over who's using the looks everyone knows. In the past seen say five Deadpools or Batmen show up, but why not try Knightwing or Dogpool? I say this again not to stifle ideas that to hopefully let us all make something more fresh.
Pg13 rating primarily light R at most. More foul language and violence than horror and explicit content.
General rules of the site and mandatory fun!
