Flames From the Past (1x1)

Niel was tight on Dustin's heels as he had heard the sound as well. He stopped behind the male and peered into the room to see what was going on.

The hard push that Kiki had given Monica had been enough to pull her from her sleep. The nightmare's grip broken for a moment as she sits up suddenly. Her breathing was ragged and sweat covered her skin. The bracelet on her wrist felt warm and her eyes seemed to be a lighter shade for a moment before returning to their normal shade.

She blinks a little, then gently touches Kiki's head. "Thank you..." She mutters. Then she blinks and looks to the doorway to see Dustin and Niel there. "Just a nightmare....I'm okay." She manages a smile but there was concern in her eyes. The nightmare had been completely different than the others. Instead of the demon causing the destruction, she had. That wasn't what happened though, was it? She was unsure.

The angel glared slightly at her. He could feel the harsh energy in the room. In a single movement he traced a pentagram in the air. it glowed a bright blue before he gave it and order, "Dispel," all the energy in the room became pure and light again, "That is likely what Igneous was talking about," he muttered as he stepped into the room Kiki laid her head in Monica's lap.

"Tell me about your dream this time."

Niel stayed back in the door way, watching the interaction very careful. It was full of useful information and it was easy to tell that watching over this girl wasn't going to be some easy babysitting. Not at all.

Monica looked down at Kiki and gently stroked the animal. She let her breathing steady and her mind calm before she tried to answer Dustin.

Finally after a few minutes she looks to him. "Usually...the nightmare I have is of the night the demon came and killed my parents, attacked me and burned the house down."

She took a shaky breath and kept stroking Kiki gently. "This time...instead of him being there, it was me at the center. It was fire either but a cold dark energy that was destroying the house." She looks to Dustin, fear, concern filling her eyes.

She was doubting herself. Could she had really been the one to kill her parents?

Shaking her head slightly. "Kiki woke me before the nightmare got any further than that." She adds.

Dustin nodded slightly as he glanced at Kiki, "Sadly I don't have a charm for that energy that you gave off," He admitted, "I'll have to have one made for you. Till then be careful. Sleep lightly if you can. I'll see if I can alter the dream again. It might not work as your mind knows that it was fooled the last few times."

She nodded quietly at his words then gently strokes Kiki again. She didn't want to ask the question but she knew she should. Was she ready for that answer though?

Hesitantly she asks. "Is...it possible...that I remembered that night all wrong?" She asks carefully.

He tilted his head, "It's always possible. You will have to ask him when you are ready for that sort of heart to heart. Like I said Igneous isn't the type to just harm someone without reason. Fire demons are hot headed but they have a levelness that goes with it," He moved away slowly, "I'll return later tonight likely with news on the charm I need made for you."

Monica nods a little at his words. "Okay.." She would have to face the demon. She had to know the answer. Though she dreaded it. Could she really have been the one to kill her parents? Could Igneous just be trying to stop her? It made her fearful. Afraid of herself. She wouldn't be sleeping again. At least not until she was sure that Dustin had a charm to deal with the energy.

As Dustin heads for the front door, Niel was close by. "She won't sleep again until you return I'm sure." He regards Dustin carefully. "If it turns out she did it. It will destroy her worse than anything ever could."

Dustin turned to the human, "We all do things we aren't proud of and are sure we can't live with. But the woman has a chance to right the wrongs of her past if in fact she did do it," He closed his eyes, "The truth is freeing. I can't explain it more than that." With that he left.

Niel nods a bit as he watches Dustin leave. He would have to trust that the male was right but still he worried. Moving back to the room he looks to Monica. "Come on. I'll make some hot chocolate." He smiles softly and turns to head for the kitchen.

Monica nods a bit and gently got out of bed. She moves to the kitchen and sat down at the little breakfast bar. She looks to Niel quietly as he moved about the kitchen making the hot chocolate. "You aren't afraid of me?"

He pauses and looks to her. "I respect that you are strong and have abilities that I will never understand but I won't run off and leave my duties." he shakes his head then adds. "Yes there is fear but not because of you. More because I wonder if I'll be strong enough to do all that must be done to protect you." He says.

She nods a little at those words. It was a good honest answer.

Molly strolled into the house and glanced about, "Who died?" She asked as she glanced from Monica to Niel. A moment later Kiki was just about trying to knock the vampire over with loving purrs and lots of rubbing, "Kiki dear your lucky your black and don't shed like a normal cat or I would have to skin you alive. Now off, shoo. I can't think with you doing that."

The cat pattered off a moment later while the vampire glared after her then sighed, "I'll have to bring her a few steaks or something tomorrow."

Monica manages a smile to Molly. She was glad to see the female. Niel had informed her of how he saw her but that he would do whatever it took to keep her safe ,even if it made her mad at him.

She giggles a little as she watches the interaction between Kiki and Molly. She shakes her head a little. "You will owe it to her. "

Niel moves to his feet and nods to Molly. "I need to check a few things. I'll let you two have some girl talk."

With that he left the room. He knew that him and Molly could talk later but he also knew that Monica may need to lean on the female a bit and having a guy there just might keep her from letting go.

Monica gazed at Molly then looks away a little. "You ever think you knew something...but then start to question it? That maybe things didn't happen the way you thought they had?" She shakes her head slightly. "Sorry...you don't need to answer...Just been a rough night."

The vampire tapped the woman on the forehead, "Life is never as it seems. If it was it wouldn't be able to turn a bite us when we least expect it," She sat down next to her, "What is it, little one?" She leaned forward on the bar as she listened. Her blue eyes missed little as she gaze at the young girl's face. The possibility that one had been living a lie is always heart breaking. There was little to be said to sooth those worries, "You are who you are now not what you might have been or were."

She gazed at Molly and had to take a deep breath before she started to tell the female about the change in the nightmare.

Her body felt cold and she rubs her arms a bit when she finished telling Molly about the changes. Then adds. "Dustin went to see about a charm that can contain the energy like this one does. " She holds up her wrist to show the bracelet she already wore.

"He says the only way I will know the truth about that night is if I speak to the demon. I know I need to get the answers but I'm afraid." She admits honestly.

She nods a little at Molly's words about being who she was now. "That's the problem though...I'm not even sure what I am now...I always knew about my other energy and what I could do but that other energy...." she shakes her head a little. "It's so dark and cold..."

Niel was busy in his room making some calls and doing some research. Even if they spoke to the demon and got his in put on the event. There was still something about it that was bugging him.

He got ahold of his old contacts in the P.D. in hopes that the reports from the fire could be looked at. Plus he checked on the fire department and was able to find contact information for the first responders.

The vampire oddly enough was a great listener. She didn't a so much move as she took in all that she was told by the female before her, "It's not often but sometimes we find that our emotions are tied to how the energy in our bodies appears. The light can not exist without the darkness. Just as the darkness can't exist without the light. Yin and yang. Usually these two energies are separated from one another and only show up as the one that is dominate. At the moment it seems they are equal within you. This can be leveled out by a charm but only for so long. Dustin has lived for too short of a time to realize this," She sighed softly as she leaned back trying to think of how else to explain to the woman before her, "The only real choice is for you to learn to control your inner balance. Many monks spend years trying to do this but they don't have the war you have inside."

Yin and yang....

Her eyes widen a bit and she stared at Molly as she thought of something her mother and father would always tell her. "Balance is key. Never too much and never too little."

She shakes her head slightly. "I guess they may have known something after all....but I don't recall ever having that other energy until that nightmare...."

Looking to Molly. "What else can I do? The monks meditate? What else?"

She was concerned. "I don't want to lose control over this again. Ever."

Molly cupped the girl's cheek, "You start by clearing your mind. Take in all around you. Live in this house. Meet all who share it with you. Each being will be happy to assist you."

She leaned back slightly, "I'm sure you don't feel like it right now but around midnight we will start a welcoming party for you and Niel. You both deserve to be loved by the large family that is this community," The vampire stood, "Come help me carry in the things I've loaded my car down with. Also I realize I haven't a clue what you like to eat so I had to rely on Emma so if you don't like the cake and icecream you can just shove a bit in her face when she gets here."

It was hard not to smile at those words. She nods a bit and moves to follow after Molly. She felt hope. Molly's words had made her realize that she isn't alone. There are those out there and around her that can help her.

She blinks as she saw all that Molly had brought. "Did you buy the entire store?" She asks curiously. She started to help with bringing the stuff in, nearly bumping into Niel.

His expression was guarded but he smiled and nods. "I better help." He heads out to Molly to help with the unpacking.

Molly glanced after the female after she had taken a few things in. Niel chose that moment to come out of hiding, "What did you find?" She asked as she pulled out things and held them out to him. They would act normal in front of Monica but for now they would talk as they should. The female's fine hearing allowed her to hear most of what he said but the phone had been too quiet for her to hear.

Niel nods a little and accepts the stuff from Molly. "The reports are all the same. Regular house fire but the first responders tell of a different kind of fire. A fire that was cold. After they broke the door down though, they said it changed. "

He shakes his head a little. "One guy claimed to have seen a monster over her but thought he was seeing things and never put it into the report as he didn't want to be treated like he was crazy."

"They put her in the hospital for insane until she was of age and then let her out. She stopped talking about that monster and so they thought she was cured and let her go. " He shakes his head. "I've got some more to look at but that's the most of it."

She placed a hand on his shoulder, "Let me be clear about this. You will not tell him anything yet. I will think of the time when it is acceptable and inform him myself," She picked up a few more items and headed inside. She smiled at Monica softly, "So much to do so little time." She chuckled lightly.
