Flames From the Past (1x1)

Monica stirred a little as if sensing Kiki was there before relaxing once more. She remained asleep until close to morning, just as the sun was rising.

The nightmare was there and held her for a few minutes before she was able to shake herself free of it. She grimaces and opens her eyes and looks around. With a deep breath she moves to sit up.

Kiki was still in human form but was nearly asleep as she shifted back into her feline form. Curling up tight she purred. The energy in the room was normal so she wasn't awakened by Monica waking up.

She smiles softly as she looks over to Kiki. She was glad to see the feline. Moving gently she got to her feet and went out into the kitchen.

She thought back to last night. She needed to talk to Dustin. She felt wrong for not contacting him last night to tell him but figured she needed to tell him. She owed him that.

Searching for her phone so she could call him.

Dustin glared at the ceiling of his home office. He hated the feeling that ate at his stomach. Some part of him told him he was worrying too much.

She finally found her phone and hesitates a little before she called his number. As soon as he answered she had to collect her thoughts again. "Hey, can you come by....I want to talk to you." She says.

Dustin glared at his phone as it rang then answered it. The voice on the other end caused him to sit up straight, "Uhhh... Yeah. I'll be there in twenty minutes or so," He told her then hung up and got ready. He was down right jittery at the thought of being around her again.

She relaxes a little when he said he would be over. After hanging up, she wasn't sure how to just tell him all she had found out last night. She had to be honest with him. It was that simple. Wasn't it?

Niel had just gotten up and came out to the kitchen. He starts the coffee up and looks to her. "You okay?"

She nods a bit. "Yeah, think so. Dustin is on his way over."

Dustin was over quicker than predicted thanks to light traffic. He knocked on the front door about 15 minutes later. He was dressed in casual clothing. A black tee shirt with blue jeans and sneakers.

Monica answers the door. She smiles softly. "Hey." She leads the way back to the kitchen. She was still in her pj's and had finished one cup of coffee but she couldn't eat yet.

Niel had gone back to his room to leave Dustin and her to talk.

The angel blinked at her state of dress but said nothing, "What was it you wanted to talk about?" He asked as he sat down at the breakfast nook with her.

She knew she probably should have changed out of her fuzzy pj's and t-shirt but she had lost track of time and thought by the time Dustin had gotten there.

Sitting down she looks to him. "That guy, the one you told me not to go any where with...was in my room when I went to bed last night."

She shakes her head. "No he didn't hurt me or anything. He seemed more nervous if anything. "

Taking a deep breath she says. "He...said he had a fling with my mom..."

Dustin stared at her clearly unsure what to say to all of that. "He was in your room? The devil was in your bedroom and you didn't bother to come get any one? Scream even?" His eyes widened as he leaned towards her, "What the fuck where you thinking? He's the devil Monica do you honestly not expect him to be up to something? What did he even mean by a fling with your mother?" His voice by now was loud and bordering on frantic.

She flinched a little at his words. "He slept with my mother." She says bluntly and looks away from Dustin as she rubs her temples. "Yes I was an idiot and should have gotten someone. I don't know why I didn't. I should have." She looks to him now. "He said there have been rumors about someone with his likeness and he came looking. Apparently tried to find me when I was younger but couldn't." She runs her fingers through her hair. "I'm sorry. I should have gotten you last night."

Niel had come out of his room when he heard the raised voice. "Everything alright?"

He ran his hands through his hair roughly and growled at the situation, "Do you want to be in danger? Is there something you like about it?" His gaze on her again ignoring Niel completely. He wasn't going to deal with the human at the moment. Dustin took a deep breath as he tried to keep for hurting the woman's feelings more.

She flinched again at his words and looked away.

Niel narrows his eyes slightly on Dustin. Then looks back at Monica.

She shakes her head at Niel. "It's alright. He has a right to be angry with me." Then she looks at Dustin. "No I don't enjoy being in danger. I don't enjoy any part of what I am right now. I'm confused and scared. Should I have gotten you? Yes I should have. Why I didn't? I don't know. I don't have that answer."

Dustin was about to growl at the woman again when he found a short black dagger pressed to his throat, "Now, now, that is no way to treat that woman much less when you haven't bothered to consider any of the facts of what she has laid out to you," Lucius in that uncanny way of his had appeared behind the angel in a split second, "Not to mention you are being loud and fowl enough to raise the dead, bird boy."

Dustin was clearly surprised by the devil and his threat. Lucius was as impeccable as always dressed in a finely tailored suit of dark grey with a dark aqua blue shirt. His tie was steel grey striped with and off golden tan with a hint of blue, "Lucius," Dustin greeted trying his hardest not to let himself get injured on the knife at his jugular.

Seeing the situation had come to a screeching halt the devil put away his toy and headed towards the front door, "I was about to come with breakfast and flowers for the lass but you made me drop the doughnuts," He wasn't pleased in the least as he pulled the front door open and picked up the box and flowers he had dropped there. A sigh escaped him. And here he was going to try and make it up to Monica for cornering her last night in her bedroom. He sat the box on the count after he had closed the door and made his way back over to the kitchen. He held the bouquet of sunflowers out to Monica, "Sorry."

The angel was left more than slightly puzzled and even a bit annoyed by the devil. His calm nature was fried at this point.

Niel had been surprised by the sudden appearance of the male behind Dustin. His hand had gone to his gun at his back but the realization of what and who the male was made him pull his hand away. Shooting would only pissed the guy off and the guy had done exactly what Niel had been thinking of doing. Dustin's tone had gotten too out of hand. He could understand the guy being angry with Monica. He was mad at her for being so foolish but he wasn't going to scream at her.

Monica had frozen in her seat as she stared at Lucius. She was in shock at the speed of his appearance but at what he had done.

As he handed her the flowers she accepts them gently. They smelled wonderful. "Thank you." She murmurs. Then looks to Dustin. Was this normal behavior for the devil she wondered.

Dustin huffed then glared at the doughnuts, "You didn't poison them did you?" He asked the prince of darkness as he opened them slowly as if to check himself.

Lucius glared at the angel before glancing away. He knew the scent of gun powder when he got near it. After all it was his pyromaniac tendencies that had lead to the discovery of the explosive substance, "It would break your dear heart if I didn't live up to my name wouldn't it?" He mocked the angel then snatched a doughnut from the box and crammed it into his mouth. He made a face as he forced himself to swallow the sickeningly sweet dough. He hated sweets. The only reason he brought them was due to a memory that Monica's mother had loved sweets.

Moving to the sink he plucked a glass from the cabinet and filled it with water before washing the sweetness from his mouth, "I hate sugar," He commented after a moment, "But I swear they are completely clean otherwise. Killing an innocent isn't my thing."

This comment many would disagree with. Dustin being one of them, "That's suggestive," He states then eats one of the doughnuts. What an odd picture the pair made. The devil cringing over sweets and an angel eating them like crazy. Seeing as the angel was content with the sweets Lucius glanced to the human male

"Why did you not shoot him?" Points at Dustin who blinked, "You're a lousy guard dog if you let him get all over Monica like that."

Niel stared at the two as they interacted and wondered faintly if they knew some of his old comrades. Pushing the thought aside as the Devil decided to ask the question he had been waiting for. Why hadn't he jumped to her rescue against the angel? He sighed a bit then looked at Monica then back at the Devil. "Yes, he did go to far and shouldn't have been yelling at her the way he was but she has to learn to defend herself against even him. She is so afraid of herself that she won't even stand up to him." He motions to Dustin. At this point he didn't care if he made either of the males mad at him. It was the truth of the entire situation. Monica had to learn to stand up for herself.

Monica blinks a bit as she stares at Niel. She hadn't expected his words at all. He was right though wasn't he? She was afraid to get angry. She was afraid to stand up for herself, even if Dustin had a right to be angry. She looks down slightly.

Niel sighs again and shakes his head, Molly was going to kill him for doing this. "Monica, you should tell them what happened to you after the fire. Where they put you."

Monica tenses and shakes her head. She had never told anyone about that, she didn't want anyone to know that.

Niel looks to her gently. "It will help them understand and help you get stronger."

She hesitates a little and looks to both Dustin and Lucifer. "I was put in an insane hospital. I was kept there until I would admit that there had been no monster and that it had been a simple gas fire."

Niel looks to the men. "I didn't jump to her defense right away because if I'm going to teach her to defend herself, she has to learn to stand up for herself. If I jump to her aid or someone else does every single time an argument happens , she won't learn to have confidence in herself to defend herself.

Lucius tilted his head, "Stand up for herself?" He glanced at Monica then, "He's right that you need to grow a pair and bitch-slap the angel for demanding to know your every move," Moving to the fridge the devil took in the things inside only to sigh, "All that food from last night and you kept none of it? I suppose the other's do have a large appetite for food."

He rummaged about for a moment then pulled out a carton of eggs, half gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. It seemed even more odd that Lucius might know how to cook. His movements were smooth as he found a frying pan put it on the stove dropped a little oil in it before turning on the burner to heat it up. A bowl was found next along with a stack of plates. From there he went about making french toast. Sadly he was great at making all sorts of food but sweets were a thing he excelled at. He blamed it on the women he tended to like.

Dustin moved over to Monica, "Sorry..." He managed softly only to earn a growl from Lucius.

"Louder! You aren't just apologizing to her. The house is alive and so are you!"

"I doubt the house cares that I yelled at Monica. Places don't tend to get angry with people," A slice of french toast smacked the angel in the face

"Regardless. Didn't your mother teach you anything?" He sighs, "I suppose many have forgotten why you say honest things loudly."

Lucius finished the french toast without another word then set the stack in the middle of the counter, "Eat up," He headed to the backyard to sit for a bit.

"The devil isn't so nice like that," Dustin states softly, "I don't know what has him like this with you."
