Hive Mind

Xial returned Engineer Gillian's nod before entering the pod as well. It was not spacious, but she did not expect to be on it for a particularly long time. Xial thought that if she were expected to spend a great deal of time in confined areas, she would choose a smaller body, but those came with disadvantages as well. The trip was uneventful, removing several of the possible ways in which things could have gone wrong.

Once the pod had landed, Xial stayed back, allowing the crew to exit first and move on to their tasks. She was aware that she was here as an explorer, and that their duties took precedence. She would, of course, back them up should anything they were doing require it, but part of being in a command position was knowing when to stand back and let others do the tasks they had been chosen for.

The planet, beneath her boots, was made of stone. Xial picked up a fragment in a gloved hand, studying it for a moment to see if anything caught her attention. She would probe at it more in depth later, but it was best not to rush into such things, especially if they were still not certain what had been the cause of the colony's collapse.
