How Green Becomes Wood

Dark stared at his two sons blankly for a few moments, and then, with a resigned sigh, said, "Okay." Then, he handed Ivy back to Daizi, and then turned to Alec, and threw him over his shoulder, "I am going to put you outside so you can think about your actions. Xander, you should be very grateful you cannot be touched, or you, too, would be put outside."

"Hey! Put me down!" Alec squawked in protest, wriggling unsuccessfully. "How come I always get tossed around like a sack of-of-of I'd say potatoes, but I feel like I'm even less than that! Come on!"

Xander stood well back and watched with a smirk. "What do you know? A phobia that comes in handy once in a while."

"No, you go outside," Dark replied simply, "you have earned this. You may come in when you have thought about what you have done." He walked to the back door, unbothered by the wailing, squirming and protestations, "And you weight less than a sack of potatoes to me." Then he sat Alec down on the back porch and shut the door, unable to totally hide the amusement in his eyes.

"You know he's very sensitive," Daizi whispered to Xander, grinning crookedly at him, "Really, you should be very kind. Think of all the wedding pictures he will have to be in tonight."

Alec started tapping on the door, making as forlorn and pitiful an expression as he could manage. "Hey. Can I come in now? How about now? Now? It's cold outside. Well, not that cold... It's sad outside!" He tap-tapped away, making his best puppy-dog eyes as he did so.

Xander snickered softly. "And I intend to collect every one of them that I can. And hide them away. Never to speak of it again. Quiet and secure. Until I need them."

Alec tapped on the door again. "Maybe? Maybe not? Surely that's a chance you can take, right? Surely you wouldn't leave your favorite son out here all by his lonesome?"

"You get him 99% of the time. This is our successful one percent," Xander told her with a smirk.

"I am not claiming to have a favourite," Dark emphasized, touching his chest with one hand, "But is it something to stand for, hearing a sibling attempt to claim a higher status for his own benefit?"

"No way, no how! I'm Mama's favorite son!" Alec blustered, pointing to himself with his thumb.

"No competition whatsoever," Xander said blandly as he folded his arms and leaned against the counter.

"I haven't had time to what with trying to decide who is whom's favorite," Alec pointed out. He tapped the door. "You know, if you keep this up, you'll end up late, and I'll be stuck out here forever, and then only Xander will be able to look after Ivy, and you know what a mess that'll turn into."

"Or, I will leave and go to the wedding, and you can trust your brother to let you in." Dark replied with a shrug, checking the time on his pocket watch, "but all I need is confirmation you have seen the error of your ways."
