How Green Becomes Wood

Xander looked Cooger square in the eye. "You do realize that there is a very easy way out of your imagined predicament, right?" He lifted a hand and made a slow, deliberate snipping motion. "Works for man and beast."

Although he knew better than to say it aloud, and he thought he was keeping his face mostly neutral, Cooger made a face which said, too realistic, kid. There was some information he was unfortunately privy to. Instead he said, "Or I'll just get lesbian goats. Or same-sex siblings, I guess."

Xander caught the look on Cooger's face, but he interpreted it to mean either Cooger was severely uncomfortable with the topic (especially as he expected), or Cooger had had a certain procedure done for himself, or both. It didn't occur to him to consider anyone else in the scenario, and he only smirked, focusing on his uncles discomfort rather than the idea of what he was actually indicating. "There you go. That'll work."

"Agreed," Alec said, still watching the frothy boil. "Just go for it, Uncle Cooger! You know you want it. You got this!"

"You can just get two same-sex ones. Maybe siblings. Maybe not. Or a one grumpy one," Xander agreed.

After patting the seeds dry, Daizi spread them over a baking sheet and then poured them over with olive oil and then sprinkled her seasonings over them. After shaking the tray, she asked Alec if they looked nicely coated and handing him the spices in case they were not. Once they looked right, she put them in the oven, "Now we just need to wait."

Alec added on a bit more seasoning, but Daizi had done very well and there was not much he needed to do. Once they were in the oven, he leaned over to watch. "For how long? How long do we have to wait?"

Ivy cooed at him, reaching for his face while being held too far away to reach.

"Maybe we should bathe her first," Daizi said with a bemused smile, "Dark will die if she gets pumpkin throughout the entire house."

Alec grinned and held Ivy closer so she was just out of reach, her fingers not quite able to reach his face. "Do you need a bath? I think you might. You are orange! You look like a highlight in my hair gone wrong."

Ivy babbled at him and blew raspberries, still trying to grab at his face. Cooger shook his head, going to the fridge, "Xander, since your dad is carving and your mom is about to give your sister a bath, that means dinner is on us, I think."

Not long after she had gone upstairs, Daizi came down to collect Ivy for bath time while Dark was still hunched over outside, hard at work at his pumpkin.
