How Green Becomes Wood

Xander snorted. "I thought you were the spider and he was the goose."

"She's a spider that got adopted into the gaggle, so it's both their gaggle," Alec said promptly.

"A gaggle of great galumphing gits," Xander drawled and then ducked when Alec threw a pillow at him. "Hey, G words are hard to come up with in that context!"

"You too," Daizi replied before heading to her bedroom where Dark was already getting for bed. After having such a long talk about him, how loved he was, and how worried they were for him, she couldn't help but go up to him, led by the sounds of him shuffling around, and wrap her arms firmly around his waist while pressing her face against his back.

"Hello, my darling," Dark said, only slightly surprised by her. It wasn't rare for her to greet him like this, but normally she at least said something first or didn't hold him quite this tightly.

"I love you, Goose."

"I love you too," He replied, slowly turning around so he could hug her too, "Is everything okay?"

It was just like him to not realize he was at the center of things and she smiled up at him when he bent to kiss her on the forehead, "Yeah. Everything's okay. I was just thinking about you. Do you know, the stablemaster was impressed at how well I did?"

"You said as much earlier."

"She kept saying how good I was for my first time riding. But I," She told him the joke she had refrained from making earlier when it would've been widely inappropriate. Raising his eyebrows, he squeezed her closer and politely offered to help support her as she worked on learning this new skill.

The twins slept well, though Alec did have a dream about turning into a duck at some point. That mostly confused him. It wasn't even the right type of bird! But he shook it off, and by breakfast time was perfectly fine and had mostly forgotten all about it. Both twins kept one eye on Dark, but things seemed normal enough, so they felt pretty relaxed. Wary and watchful, but hopeful. They headed off to school, telling their parents and sister goodbye, and went to act like normal citizens for another schoolday.

Having finally found another baby group which seemed like a good match and that was the goal for the day. Now that Ivy was over a year old, it seemed more pressing to find a way for her to socialize with other babies and so they were excited to try this new one out.

They returned from the play group just before time for Alec to leave for work and Daizi, holding Ivy in her arms, entered the house after her husband saying, "It wasn't that bad, Goose!"

Dark only grumbled as he took off his shoes, touched the salt, and lay face down on the couch in the living room.

Alec came in holding a piece of mango he'd been eating as a before-work snack. "What wasn't that bad?"

Xander came down with his judo bag over one shoulder. He looked at Dark quizzically. "Why do you look like a teenager that just said the stupidest thing to his crush?"

Alec snapped his fingers. "That's what it looks like! I thought it looked familiar."

"because it was the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me."

"That's not true Goose." Daizi said, "Do you remember what happened at the hotel in Copenhagen? That was so much worse than this."

Dark raised his head and scowled at her, "Thank you for that."

"He even asked us to join him for dinner, babe, it's fine."

"Okay, I'm curious about Copenhagen, but I'm also scared to ask," Alec said, ticking that off with his finger, "but I'm currently more interested in knowing what could possibly be the most embarrassing to ever happen to you at a baby group."

"It's a baby group. I bet you anything if those babies are talking, everyone's getting embarrassed," Xander smirked.

"Ah, so your ex recognized you, but you didn't recognize him. That's pretty embarrassing," Alec snickered. "Truly, it's going to take some time for you to recover from that."

"Mega cringe right there," Xander agreed, smirking. "And now you have to face him for dinner? Wait 'til Cooger hears this!"

"Okay, in my defense," Dark said, raising his head again, "When last we met, he dressed like Freddie Mercury and had hair like Harry Styles and now he's mostly bald and was wearing a polo shirt and khakis. He goes by Matt now."

"He actually invited all of us over," Daizi said, "Not just Dark and myself."
