How Green Becomes Wood

"Yes!" She grumbled, turning her back towards her twins and pulling the collar of her shirt out. Dark took a subtle peek down after he murmured confirmation that she was okay she let go of her shirt, pushed her hair back and said, "I'm fine, it's okay, she just---doesn't have impulse control."

"Ivy, that was very naughty of you," Dark chided his daughter, setting her down in her high chair, "No biting."

"Believe me, I had that talk with her."

"Oh! There," Xander said, blushing and turning away quickly. "Ow. That's bad." On the plus side, it did mean he wasn't still trying to steal the food Dark was making. He set aside his coffee.

Alec put a hand to his mouth to stifle a grin. "Poor, Mama! That must have hurt quite a lot."

"It did!" Daizi huffed, hearing that grin in her son's voice, "It hasn't happened since she was teething!"

"Well," Dark said, plating breakfast and setting it down for the family before wrapping his arms around his wife, "At least you will have a nice, peaceful day here while I take the shark to meet her relatives."

"Maybe the rest of her family will teach her some manners," Alec giggled, trying to behave and not tease her too much, but unable to miss a small joke. He picked up Xander coffee and took a sip, making a face at the taste but taking another sip anyway.

Xander blushed harder and sat down to eat. Maybe if he ignored them, they'd go away.

"Breakfast first, then fish," Xander mumbled around a mouthful.

"Mmm, yes, breakfast," Alec agreed enthusiastically, finally sitting down. He continued to sip on the coffee between bites. "Are you sure you'll be alright, Mama? Here all by yourself?"

"Of course I will be, I'm an adult. It'll be nice to just have some time to relax," Daizi replied, "Anyway, the aquarium isn't that fun for me. It has a touch tank, but you try closing your eyes and putting your hand into a tank of water full of fish without freaking out a little bit."

That made Xander pause in his eating and he looked at Dark. "There's a what, now, that I'm expected to do what with my hand?"

Alec made a face and finished off his coffee and breakfast at the same time. "That'll be an adventure! I am so going to close my eyes and give it a try! I've never touched a living fish before. Sounds like fun!"

"You will see it when we get there if you ever finish eating," Dark replied, giving Ivy the solids portion of her breakfast before sitting down to eat his own.

Daizi sighed and ruffled Ivy's soft hair, "You are so lucky you are cute habibti."

"Says the man who hasn't even started eating," Xander remarked.

"She is really cute. Probably the cutest baby to have ever existed," Alec remarked, speaking a little faster than normal. "Although I did see a really cute baby one time at work. A complete chubster! So ridiculously cute!"

Dark made a face at the word 'chubster' but said, "I believe I have met that baby when I was filling in for you. Or another equally rotund one. Regardless, I do not think the baby I saw came anywhere close." After two baby groups, his opinion that the only baby he really liked was his own had not changed.

"Is it that he wasn't as cute as Ivy, or that you weren't wearing your baby lovin' glasses when you met him?" Alec challenged, grinning. "You've got baby lovin' glasses on whenever you look at Ivy."

"Please, for the love of all that is unholy, do not say 'baby loving glasses' again," Xander groaned.

"I didn't. I said baby lovin'," Alec said, emphasizing the lack of G with a grin.

Xander picked up his fork and glared at Alec. "I will poke you."

Daizi shook her face, "I agree with your brother, Baby Lovin' and Baby Loving glasses are both... I don't like that."

"I cannot say if the cause is glasses, pheromones, or Ivy's unique status, but I can confidently say no baby but my daughter has ever impressed me." Dark said bluntly.

Alec laughed and made a face. "Just don't tell the other parents that! That'd be so sad. Like, really, really sad, like someone telling you Ivy is completely unimpressive. White lies all around! In that one case. But Ivy is spectacularly cute. Very, incredibly cute! And absolutely treasured and fun and all those other things." He ate a few bites super quickly. "What kind of fish are at the aquarium? Does it have just fish, or will there be penguins there? Why are penguins at the zoo and at the aquarium? How do they decide which one gets them?"

Xander polished off his plate and quietly took it to the sink.

"I know how to be tactful," Dark assured Alec, "The polite thing to do is to lie. But I know what is in my heart. What I do not know is what is at the Aquarium, I seldomly go and have not been in years."

"Oooo! Then this is basically your first time, too!" Alec finished off his breakfast and bounced up excitedly. "A group of first-timers! We are going to have so much fun together and look allllll the animals! And do all the things! And experience all the things!" He gave a little spin of happiness. "Ivy is going to have a blast!"

Xander smirked at Dark and headed upstairs to change.

"You are the one who gave it to him," Dark said blandly, standing up to make one last cup of coffee for himself, "I had offered to finish it for you." After the coffee was ready, he put it in a travel mug so he could drink it in the car and then went upstairs to dress Ivy in a going-out outfit. Since he knew they had many places to be, he had dressed himself before breakfast so by the time they were all ready, they were able to just get in the car and go.
