How Green Becomes Wood

Cooger got up, brushed the snow off of himself as best he could, and grabbed the tree trunk, "We gotta find the cart who will take it back for us, then find a good small one for me. I don't need something as fancy."

"On it!" Alec trotted off to fetch the cart.

"Might maybe should have brought one along to begin with," Xander mused. "But then we'd have had to drag it around all over the place, so maybe not."

Alec soon returned with the cart and pulled it up close. "One cart for you, Uncle Cooger!"

Alec came over as well, and they both helped Cooger heave the tree up onto the cart. It barely fit, but it was better than dragging the thing along the ground for it to get ruined.

It didn't take long before Cooger found a small tree he liked well enough and then, since it was small with a fairly thin trunk, he looked over at the twins and asked, "Would either of y'all like to try cutting it down?"

Xander promptly flopped over onto his side and started sawing away. It was not complicated, but it did take a few tries to get the motion and angle right. He slowly worked his way through the trunk, grumbling each time the saw caught. Slowly and steadily, he sawed away until, finally, he got through!

"Freed!" he called to Cooger.

"My hands are so cold, I don't know," Xander said. He held up his hands, nine fingers spread wide. "I think I got them all!"

"Stop hiding your pinkie," Alec scolded.

Xander looked at his hands in surprise. "What do you know? I did lose one!"

Alec threw a snowball at him, making Xander laugh.

"Well nine is good enough," Cooger laughed as he heaved the tree into the cart since it was small enough for him to do on his own, "People only have an average of ten fingers anyway. Come on, after we drop these trees to be tagged we can go on the horse-cart ride through the forest."

"There's horse cart rides? Nice!" Xander grinned, moving to help Cooger pull the cart.

"That sounds like a lot of fun!" Alec agreed, pushing from behind as est as he could around the branches.

"Absolutely!" Alec grinned.

"That sounds awesome!" Xander agreed.

Both twins started trying to move the cart faster in order to arrive at sleigh rides and hot chocolate faster.

Once they returned to the activity main area of the farm, Cooger brought the trees to be tagged and bagged. After putting his collection tags into his wallet for safe keeping, he nodded his head and started leading the twins, "We can get hot chocolate first and take it on the wagon, it's not some fast gallop, it's pretty slow and meandering with good benches."

"Lead the way to the chocolate, please," Alec said happily. "That sounds delightful!" He glanced around. Rather romantic, even. Funny how something could be fun for the whole family or a romantic date. Maybe he could do something like this with Emma?

"The good benches part is the most surprising aspect," Xander said. "Let's chocolate and ride!"
