How Green Becomes Wood

"I didn't catch that," Alec shuffled. "It's just so sad!" He paused suddenly and looked between his parents accusingly. "Wait, did you know how it ended before we came?"

Xander caught Dark's eye and pointed toward the restroom to let him know where he was going before heading in that direction.

"Of course we did," Daizi admitted, while Dark nodded to Xander and diverted the family that way. It was too crowded to let one of the children loose, they'd never find them again. "It's a very old story, and you know I love mythology. I just didn't know how they'd tell it in this story."

"Why didn't you warn me?" Alec wailed, distraught. "That's just cruel! How could you do that to me?"

Xander slipped into the restroom for a while, and when he came out, he spotted one of the cast members in the far distance. He glanced at his father and then back at the cast member, who was already disappearing. Was it possible to meet the cast at one of these?

"This was the worst story I have ever seen," Alec pouted. "It was too beautiful and hurt too much to end so, so, so... Hurtfully!"

"Is he still crying?" Xander asked blandly as he rejoined the group.

"We thought you'd like it, it's a beautiful story even though it's sad," Daizi said, "Nobody else in all the world would have come so close to saving their lover as Orpheus did. That's what makes it so special."

"Yes," Dark replied, although he was sympathetic to Alec's plight, "Did you enjoy it at least?"

Xander cleared his throat and straightened. "It was okay. Not the worst. Not something I'd want to sit through again. At least, not while next to a certain someone." He held up his hand. "I'm still regaining feeling in my hand."

"I'm taking that as high praise," Daizi teased, "but I'll note that for next time. I know Dark and I were holding pretty tight to each other at certain points."

"I thought it was wonderful," Dark said quietly, heading towards the merch table, "It was amusing to me Hades even had tattoos on his one arm. It was very odd how much we resembled each other."

Daizi's eyes went wide and she squeezed his arm, "Goose, that's what we should do next Halloween!!!"

"You two would be so perfect for that role!" Alec squealed. "It's perfect! Can I be a male Muse or a male Fate?"

"I thought you'd want to be Hermes," Xander commented.

Alec shook his head. "I don't have the voice for that. You'd be closer."

"Thank you, I think," Xander said.

"We do not have to be able to sing the parts," Dark pointed out.

"There aren't male muses," Daizi said, "I don't think you need to sell yourself short, though, why not be Apollo? And Xander can be Poseidon."

"Except you and Mama totally could sing the parts," Alec pointed out, a lot more settled now that he was distracted and able to move on a little from the shock of not knowing the ending.

"I could do Poseidon, sure," Xander agreed. "One of the big three! That leaves Zues for Cooger."

Dark shook his head, "Cooger is Dionysus."

"Persephone and Hades only have songs together when they're fighting," Daizi said, "and there aren't enough characters for a full group costume."

"It feels weird to have two of the Big Three without the third, but I guess Zeus could be off doing dumb stuff while his brothers are having a good time without him," Alec suggested.

Xander shook his head. "Whatever. It's still a year out. We don't have to decide now."

"No, but it is fun to think about it. You can be one of the workers," Alec smirked at him.

"If Cooger is Zeus, then Lex would have to be Hera," Daizi said, presuming they'd still be together come next October, "And I don't think Lex would take kindly to being perhaps the most cheated on woman in all of mythology."

"Cooger would not appreciate being the the most notorious whore in all of mythology either," Dark said with a little smirk.

"Oooo, hadn't thought about that," Alec admitted, wincing. He stopped suddenly and caught Dark's arm as he was closer. "Look! Merch store! It's open! And not horrifically crowded!"

"Oh no," Xander groaned. "Pace yourself."

"I promise, I'll only buy one or two things, no more than two, but I love looking!" Alec grinned, tugging lightly at Dark's arm.
