How Green Becomes Wood

When the cat started to play with Daizi's earrings, it was too much and Ivy squeaked, reaching out her hands. "Not like that, Kitten," Cooger gently corrected, "You gotta be calm if you want to pet the kitty cat." Then he looked at Alec, "She's a pretty chill lady, but I think she's got to be settled first. Then one of us can hold this one and help her."

"We have already begun introducing her to Enkidu," Dark told Alec, "it will be awhile before they can be in same room."

"Okay. Good," Alec said in relief. He looked between them in awe. "I cannot believe you've been planning this and already going through all of this to help her get settled! It's... It's overwhelming." He shook away the tears in his eyes and reached out to pet his new kitten. She paused in her play long enough to bump her head into his hand, and then she went back to busily attacking the earrings. "I should know things like where her litter box is and food and all of that. The important if less fun stuff."

"We have one litter box in your bathroom and one down in the laundry room," Dark answered, "We presume you would want to feed her in your room, but you can rearrange that."

"We have temporary stuff here, but my birthday gift to you is I'll pay for the cat stuff that actually fits your whole," he gestured with one hand, "thing. I didn't want to guess for you, I ain't that stylish."

"Thank you, Uncle Cooger. You are the second best!" Alec said, coming over to hug Cooger, Ivy and all. "This is beyond awesome!"

The kitten had gotten tired and nestled down on Daizi's chest with a yawn. It had been a big, big day, but here was soft and warm!

"You're welcome, kiddo," Cooger replied, wrapping Alec up in a one-armed hug. Then he glanced at Xander, "And don't you worry, I didn't forget about your birthday."

"She is very, very sweet," Daizi sighed, scratching beneath the kitten's chin. For all his anxieties about bringing this cat home... Dark struggled to look at how immediately comfortable the kitten was with his wife, and know how happy his son was, and still feel true apprehension. It wasn't all gone, but it certainly made a lot of lives happy. Then again... if he could lay like that kitten was, he'd be very happy too.

Xander smirked. "It'd be okay if you did. A cat's a pretty big deal."

"No, no, no," Alec said, pushing away gently. "Xander, I will absolutely not have you being forgotten! It's your birthday, too, even if you were secondborn."

"First," Xander said.

"Second."

"First, and you know it."

Alec stuck his tongue out at Xander. "Someday, we'll actually look at our birth certificates."

"When we do, you'll see I'm first, just like I always said," Xander stated.

Alec thought about that for a moment. "If you're wrong, you have to dress however I say for a week."

"And when you're wrong, you have act like me for a week."

"Deal!"

They shook on it.

Unpreturbed, the kitten started purring, quite happy with the chin scratches.

Daizi turned her head, "Are you actually going to go check and learn the truth?"

Cooger chuckled and went to get a bag, which he handed to Xander, "If y'all are in a competition, this is a good time to give this to you."

"Just thought it's funny, given the context." Cooger replied. Inside the bag was a t-shirt which read Will trade brother for horse. Wrapped up inside the t-shirt was cardboard packaging, the sort one would find a toy in, with money inside. The packaging said We all know this is what you really wanted.

Xander shook out the shirt and held it up to read. "Nice," he grinned. "Yeah, I'd definitely consider it. Depends on the horse." He read it out for Daizi.

"You're such a meanie," Alec laughed.

Xander looked at the wrong side of the package first before turning it around. When he saw the neat roll of money and the caption, he laughed. "Hell, yeah, this is exactly what I wanted." Xander chuckled and offered Cooger a fist bump. "Thanks, man. It's perfect. I'm going to buy all the snacks!"

Daizi laughed at the shirt, "That's awful, I love it."

"I would also trade my brother," Dark nodded.

Cooger tried to return the fist bump, but Ivy beat him too it. "Enjoy the snacks, dude, I thought it was better than any random item I might've picked. Except the shirt, the shirt is pretty good."

"Nice one, Mini," Xander praised her, amused. Looked like his "training" was really sticking with her.

"But, Ba, you don't want a horse," Alec said, trying not to feel too envious of Daizi with a sleeping kitten. He would have his chance! "Or do you? Have you wanted a horse this whole time?"

"Ooo, good point," Alec mused. "A very good point. What would you trade him for?"

"A title, like count," Xander said in amusement.

"A teleportation advice!" Alec suggested.

"Nah. Killer unicorn."

"Immortality."

"New wood stuff."

"I bet she'd try anyway!" Alec laughed.

"She'd eat you, if she could," Xander remarked.

Lex sent Cooger a text asking how the kitten had gone over. Then she sent a second one asking him to stop by before he left. She figured he'd see them before he left and would answer then, not at all expecting an immediate reply.

"Yeah, she would," Cooger agreed, not realizing Lex had texted him, "And so would Hank."

"I hope you don't trade him though, because I don't know if I get to keep him if you do," Daizi pouted, "I deserve final say in any potential trade deals involving my husband."

"You wouldn't want to lose Cooger? You'd kybosh any trades concerning him?" Alec asked with a grin.

"Of course she would. He's half hers. Half the time, he's on her side for pranks," Xander pointed out.
