How Green Becomes Wood

"He was very gallant," Daizi said, squeezing Dark's arm.

"Sometimes it is like there is some higher power who strives for my embarrassment."

Daizi chuckled, "Or who just likes to show you off."

Dark inhaled very slowly and then, "When I was helping her, her kitchen pipe butst a second time. All of her towels and blankets were in use, and the water was spraying towards an outlet. Not wanting a fire, I..." He waved ond hand and then into his wine glass said, "Used my shirt."

There was a moment of silence.

"You used your shirt?" Jack repeated carefully, as if making certain he'd heard correctly. "That was quick thinking."

Sally gave a little nod. "That was, indeed, very gentlemanly of you."

Dark rubbed his forehead with his finger tips and his temple with his thumb, "It seemed the best option at the time."

"Ciara teased him for it, she said now everybody knows they're having an affair," Daizi said, rubbing her husband's bicep.

"I was as shocked as you are," Dark said, "it was especially surprising as she could not bring herself to look at me."

"But, she doesn't have a dryer, and all her blankets were wet, so Dark said he had to sit there cold and half-naked until she ultimately gave him a house coat." Daizi said, resting her cheek against Dark's shoulder. It was a very amusing situation, but she was very proud he chose to stay and help their family.

Sally tried to contain her giggles and hid behind her hand as she pictured the event as it must have happened. "Oh, poor Ciara," she managed to say between giggles. "But you did such a noble thing, dear Dark!"

Jack nodded soberly. "Indeed," he said. "Imagine poor Ciara having to look at all of your ugly mug while water pours around her. It must have been very traumatic."

"Jack!" Sally scolded and broke down giggling harder.

Jack nodded without losing his serious expression, but there was a twinkle in his eye. "It's a good thing you were doing such good work. She might have sold you to a cryptozoologist otherwise."

"Jack!" Sally laughed, giving his arm a playful slap. "Stop teasing the poor man!"

"She would have found herself in serious trouble if she had," Daizi said, still lovingly holding onto her husband's arm, "I wouldn't be able to let her just go about her life if she sent my husband to live in a zoo or a lab."

"Don't worry, I'd help you get him out," Sally giggled.

"I suppose I could be persuaded to help you," Jack said and then grinned. "It's good to have a man around willing to give the shirt off his back."

"I do not do it for just anyone."

"It was a very serious event," Daizi said, "I just hope not too many people saw him leaving Ciara's apartment in a different shirt than he entered in. But it's better than if he had to leave without one."

"I was more concerned about the cold," Dark confided.

Laughing, Daizi stretched upwards and kissed him on his cheek. He was absolutely precious. The best part was he didn't seem to know. "The truly tragic thing is it was the first time any of us had been invited to her home."

"And now you likely never will!" Jack grinned.

Sally laughed. "Maybe she will move I to a new home and allow you to enter then. Doesn't she currently live rather far away? Comparatively."

"She does," Daizi nodded, "It'd be lovely if she was closer. Alec and Xander would be delighted, even if only one of them would admit it. It's good to have family close, and I think all of us here knows what it's like when they can't be. Or you can't be close to them."

"This is very true," sighed Sally. "And then you have the problem, sometimes, of which family do you live closer to?" The glance she shared with Jack spoke of many conversations on this topic.

Jack cleared his throat. "If she moves closer, I wonder what that will do for neighborhood safety?"
