How Green Becomes Wood

"Do you think if we gave him coffee before this, we'd be able to power a generator?" Sloan asked as Claire got onto one and started bouncing.

"Sloan! They're like the good trampoline at the gym."

"Probably, especially if you stuck him on a treadmill or something, but do you think we couldhandle the crash out later?" Xander asked.

"THE good one? You only have one good one?" Alec asked, bouncing.

"Hey I don't have to live with him," Sloan teased, getting onto the trampoline. After testing it she said, "It's probably more accurate to say it's like the best one. None of them are bad, but we have our favourite."

"One of them is bad," Claire laughed.

"I'll drop him off at your house and tell your mum it's a sleepover," Xander told her. He eyed the trampoline speculatively.

"What does the bad one feel like?" Alec asked. He hopped up and let himself fall onto his backside a few times. "Come on, Xander!"

Xander finally hopped onto the trampoline and tried a few bounces.

"Please, my mom doesn't let me have sleepovers with boys," Sloan snorted, "That's way too provocative. You might corrupt me."

"It's just kind of soft," Claire answered, bouncing a few times in place to get some good height while Sloan scanned the area for the various trampoline sections, "So it doesn't have the resistance I like."

Xander snickered at that and cautiously bounced his way along. He wasn't sure about this trampoline thing. It was way too unstable.

Alec backed up to give Claire plenty of space. "You're doing awesome!"

"Don't worry, Xander," Sloan said, bouncing a few times before doing an aerial, "If you fall, it'll be soft."

"Thanks," Claire winked, bouncing to an area with more space before flipping over the soft divide between two trampoline spots.

Alec cheered and clapped enthusiastically. "That was awesome!"

"If I fall," Xander grumbled. He waited until Sloan finished her aerial before allowing himself to start really bouncing and getting the feel for it. After a few bounces, he let himself fall, a bit like his Judo warm-up. He had no idea if that worked for trampolines, but it seemed like a reasonable idea to get to know the ground he was working with better.

"It's fun to just get to bounce around," Claire said, "Sloan and I still warmed up before we came here."

"I'm still warming up," Sloan said, bouncing to get height before falling onto her butt before using the momentum to straighten up, pivot, and drop down the other way.

"I did a bit of warming up, but I wasn't sure what to expect," Alec said.

Xander watched Sloan and refused to admit he was impressed even by that "little" thing. "Good job. You know a really cool way to fall on your butt."

"Really just good stretching," Claire shrugged, "You don't want to strain yourself."

"We do a lot of work falling. And learning not to be afraid of falling." Sloan replied, bouncing back up onto her feet.

"That makes sense! Hang on. I want to try something, and I don't want to run into you." Alec made certain he had plenty of space to not hurt himself or anyone else. Then he got himself bouncing really well. At the height of his last bounce, he flung himself into an incredibly sloppy but recognizable flip. Unfortunately, he didn't come even close to landing it, instead flopping flat on his back near Claire. He sat up, laughing, not at all harmed but a bit winded. "Ha! Look at that! I am a creature of grace and poise!"

"Same in Judo, but not usually from anything higher than person height," Xander said. He stopped and turned to watch Alec. "Nice flip!"

"Hey, good try!" Claire grinned, holding her hand out to help him up, "You should probably be careful though, you can still hurt yourself if you land the wrong way on a trampoline."

"I imagine you don't fall as quickly either," Sloan agreed, moving continuing to bounce as easily as she breathed.

"Will you show me some landing tips?" Alec asked hopefully as he scrambled to his feet.

Xander shrugged as he gave a few bounces, trying it out. "I dunno. Getting throne is pretty fast. I guess we'd need some kind of speed counter to know for certain."

"Part of it is just making sure you really have yourself fully flipped over," Claire explained, "You have to stay tucked until the last minute, otherwise you'll definitely stumble. You also definitely want to make sure you get a lot of height."

"I think there's a difference between being thrown and falling," Sloan rolled her eyes, "If I throw a ball, you don't say it fell. Anyway, you pick up speed the longer a fall is."

"Okay. I'm going to try again," Alec said eagerly. He paused and quickly said anxiously, "Unless you wanted to flip first! I don't want to get in your way. You can totally go."

"You are throwing yourself through the air, so are you really falling?" Xander countered. He then immediately got distracted, not paying attention to any retort Sloan might have, and pointed across the room. "Dude! Trampolines on the wall! You can chuck yourself at a wall without breaking it!"

"There's plenty of room for all of us," Claire replied, "Seriously, just don't hurt yourself! Sloan and I have been training since we were toddlers!"

"If I miss the bar. Yes." Sloan said flatly, before following Xander's gaze and laughed, "I don't know if their goal is for you to fling yourself at the wall, but you can go ahead and do what you like. I'm waiting for when we get to trampoline into the foam pit."

Alec grinned. "This place is great!" He took a running start this time and managed to nail a forward flip. It wasn't perfect by any means, but he did land on his feet. The trampoline still bounced him around a little, but he was in much better control this time. He bounced around in a circle and then grinned at Claire. "I bet you can't beat that!"

Xander stopped what he was doing and stared at Sloan, his eyes wide. "There's a foam pit? A foam pit you can jump into?"

Claire laughed politely, "I don't think you actually want to challenge me on flips, Alec."

"Hell yeah," Sloan replied, "They're the best. We practice in them a lot at the gym. They're great unless you start to drown in the foam."

"Come on! Are you afraid you'll loose?" Alec teased lightly. If she said no, he'd back down, but he also knew exactly what he was asking.

"How do you drown in foam?" Xander frowned.
