How Green Becomes Wood

"Go on," Daizi said, nudging the gun closer into Dark's back, "Put the valuables in the bag."

"You do not need to do this," He told her, hoping she wouldn't listen to him.

"By god, I'll have you all arrested!" Cooger cried out, looking at his civilians, "Are you all too scared to act!? Are there no men amongst you!?"

Lex grinned as she approached Dark and Daizi and held out her bag. "Plenty of men, I see, but I also see plenty of women, too, and I think we all know who'll win that fight."

"What kind of a town are you runnin' where the sheriff has no gun and asks his citizens to put themselves in harm's way?" Xander drawled. He grinned at Cooger and started shooting at his feet. "I think you should take up dancing."

"Are you going to comply?" Daizi asked, one arm across her husband's shoulders.

"You will pay for this," He told her, in Arabic.

In the same language she replied, "God, I hope so."

When Lex came up to them, Dark tossed the nearby trash into the bag and looking at her said, "As you recall, I have children to provide for. Is this what you really want?"

"When lawlessness comes to my town, and all my deputies abandon me, the people have to do what they can!" Cooger yelled out, trying to avoid the water.

Then, suddenly, a blast of water hit the back of Xander's neck.

"I'm sure you'll be fine," Lex said with a wink. "You have a style about you, so I'm sure you'll make it back in no time at all."

Xander yelped in shock and nearly lost his balance but caught himself quickly. "Who did that?" he demanded, turning around on his stump and looking for the perpetrator.

"You could always join us," Daizi told him, "I'm sure we have plenty of use for someone of your... talents."

"You don't dare hurt my boy," Russ said, armed with a water gun someone had set down, "I don't know what your game is, but you won't hurt my boy to do it.'

"Very true. I'm sure we'd have a lot more fun and have a higher success rate with you, and you could enjoy a life of new adventures every week," Lex grinned. She turned to look as Xander yelped. "Uh-oh. Looks like our leader is in trouble. Hey, now, he don't stand alone!" She tried to shoot at Russ, but missed and hit a bystander instead.

Xander hopped down from his stump and ducked down to use it as cover to shoot at Russ.

Toby had gotten slightly seperated from his mother, so instead of covering her, he ended up caught in the crossfire.

Now that he wasn't under direct fire, Cooger was able to get his own gun and join the waterfight, while his father gladly stood up to defend him. The bystander who was shot decided not to just take it, and instead they started shooting soon. In between all this, some guests were still just ducking the squirts of water and trying to clean up.

In the middle of this chaos, Dark reached behind him and lightly grabbed Daizi's wrist, and after removing the gun from his back, spun around to face her. Looking into her shocked face, and then at the chaos in front of the house, he took her hand and the pair of them dashed behind the cabin.

Xander and Toby really got into it, dodging around like it was laser tag. They ducked around, trying to squirt other people, but it was getting harder and harder to tell who was on which "side." Especially as most people had started out with two guns but had dropped one, and other people were picking them up to use. There was water everywhere!

Lex tried to sneak up behind Russ and shoot him, laughing and ducking away to hide behind other people when she could.

Alec grinned from his place behind the backdrop. Once the chaos really set in, he cued up a song on his phone and turned up the volume really high before holding it out so everyone could hear. The twangy keys of a ragtime tune rocked out, bringing to mind an old-timey saloon fight.

The start of the music made everyone start to laugh, and they went back into the water gun fight, mimicking stand offs. Clean up soon seemed to be very well forgotten as Cooger marched up to Xander and said, "This town ain't big enough for the both of us, kid."

Xander held his ground, narrowing his eyes in a steely look. Or close enough as he also fought down a smile at Cooger's walk. "Yeah, I got a problem with it. I got a problem... with your face."

"So's callin' an opponent a kid," Xander shot back. He tensed, waiting to see what would happen next.

Lex and Toby had stopped and stood off to the side, watching. Alec caught sight of it, and he quickly switched the song on his phone. After a moment of silence, the theme to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" blared into the evening.

"Hate to cut down an old man," Xander said, slowly raising his water gun, "but if he won't make room for the young, I guess it's gotta be done." He flicked his gun up in a quick motion and shot.

Without any less hesitation, Cooger shot Xander right back. The issue was, they were using water guns, so neither of them were actually hurt. Which meant nothing was particularly resolved. "I have no idea who was hit first."

"No idea," Xander agreed. "Which means... Whoever hits most wins!" He then set about pumping the water gun trigger as fast as he could while quickly moving sideways. He counted his hits, but he definitely missed several times.

Cooger swore and then went back to shooting Xander with his water gun until the last drop of water was emptied. Then he looked at his gun, and back up at Xander, and then said, "Lex, I need your gun!"

"That's cheating, old man!" Xander shouted. "Alec!"

"Don't have one, remember?" Alec called back, having switched the music to another up-beat country-themed song.

Lex laughed and tossed Cooger her gun. "Fine! This makes us even!"

Xander went running and looking for another gun he could use, but most of the others also seemed to be empty.
