How Green Becomes Wood

"Hello Kitty, and her friends," Claire replied, only smiling sweetly at Alec when he gushed over the bear. He was so cute, and so disarming. Most guys tried so hard to be tough around her, it was so nice to be around one who could just be himself, "My favourites are Cinnamon Roll, My Melody, and Tuxedo Sam. I basically grew up on Hello Kitty, Care Bears, and Strawberry Shortcake... That's probably why I like fruit scents, actually!"

Alec felt his shoulders relaxing a little. She didn't mind. Not one bit. In fact, it seemed like maybe she... liked it? He wasn't positive, and he didn't want to push his luck, but he appreciated and would remember this moment how she hadn't reacted badly to something that Emma would have. Politely, of course. "That makes a lot of sense. I actually don't know anything about Hello Kitty. I know the image of the Kitty, herself - himself? Itself? - but nothing beyond that. Hey, I found Barkleigh the Dog, and a truly bearish bear!" He showed her the dog, giving it a slight shake to make the long ears wiggle, but that ended up looking vaguely disturbing since it wasn't stuffed. He quickly put it back and pointed to the pictures of Barkleigh and the Grizzly Bear.

"Herself, but don't look too far into it. Sanrio says she's not a cat, she's a little girl who looks like a cat and is five apples tall and weighs three apples. And she's from London, I think? It's weird, but I still love her," Claire replied, laughing at Barkleigh before gasping, "This one!" She cried, spotting something utterly adorable. Lifting the blue husk, she said, "She's perfect!"

"Three apples tall," Alec mused, wondering what kind of apples and thinking that was such a charming way to describe someone or something. He jumped a little at Claire's exclamation and turned to see. "What is it?" he asked excitedly.
