Daizi chuckled lightly and then kissed Ivy's head one last time, "Okay, habibti, let's go find Baba." Although unspoken, Alec's rubber comparison felt apt, because being five weeks postpartum, her uterus had almost made it back to its old size, although not quite, so although she absolutely still had a belly, if someone spotted her on the street, and she wasn't with Ivy, it was unlikely someone would guess she had recently given birth. With everything going on, Daizi hadn't even realized it, though, because she still felt so different. Anyway she didn't really feel like she had time to reflect on that kind of thing.
Dark was still outside, but turned and smiled when he saw his wife and baby come looking for him. "It's getting cold out here," Daizi said after stepping out, "You should come inside, I don't want you getting cold. Dinner will be ready, soon."
"I kind of like it. Come stand with me," He replied.
"Not with Ivy, it's too cold for her."
"Just for a moment? You will hold her, I will hold you, and we will share enough body heat that nothing will go wrong in a minute or two," Dark asked, and there was a tone in his voice that Daizi couldn't bring herself to ignore, so she obliged him, allowing him to wrap her up in his strong arms.
"Are you okay, Goose?" She asked as he rested his chin on her head.
"I--" He began, because he was, normally, very honest with her about how he felt, but then he realized he just... didn't know. There was just too much to name. So feeling tears fill his eyes, he pressed his face into Daizi's hair, and after taking a breath said, "I really, really love you. And I really, really love our family."
"I love you too, Goose. We love you."
Dark squeezed her tightly and securely, wishing he could find useful words, but instead simply pressed himself against him, and let himself cry into her hair. He was certain he could keep himself together, but then Daizi had turned her head to kiss his upper arm, just because it was the closest part of him.
They couldn't stay there long, because it was cold, Ivy was young, and dinner was nearly ready, but they stayed long enough that when they went back inside to eat, Dark was feeling a little bit more settled.
