How Green Becomes Wood

"Yeah, she's on a milk-only diet right now," Daizi cooed, rubbing her cheek against Ivy's hair, "Maybe I'll pick her a flower she can hold. Not eat, silly baby," She gave Ivy a little kiss which made her giggle, "Just hold!"

Then, Daizi booped Ivy on the nose, and in response, Ivy raised her hand and tried to do the same back, but lacking fine motor skills, whacked her mother in the face with her whole hand.

Upon recovering from the proceeding laughing fit, Daizi asked, "Did you remember to pack your toothbrushes?"

"Yes," the twins chorused, Alec grinning in amusement at Ivy's action.

"Come on," Xander said, moving toward the door. "We should be ready for them."

"I'm going to say bye now rather than wait until we're rushing out the door," Alec said, carefully hugging Daizi and nuzzling Ivy playfully.

"Bye, habibi," Daizi hugged Alec, "say bye-bye to your brothers, Ivy! Have fun, you two." She followed them to the door, and felt a little guilty about how excited she was to have them out of the house for a little while.

"Have fun and stay out of trouble," Xander told Daizi as he slipped on his shoes.

The black car rolled up in front of their house and gave a muted honk to let them know someone had arrived. The twins rushed to pull on their coats, and Alec nearly left without one shoe. They called their final farewells and hurried out to hop into the Hollis' car where Mr. Hollis sat waiting to whisk them off to his house.

"What trouble do we ever get into?" Daizi asked innocently, while bouncing the baby she hadn't intended to conceive. She made Ivy wave goodbye and then once she couldn't hear the car anymore, she shut the door and hurried took out her phone, "Hi, Sally?"

"I wouldn't miss it for the world! I'm just down the street, so give me just a few minutes." Sally hung up, but true to her word, it was less than five minutes before she was tapping on Daizi's door. "Daizi, darling, I am here to help!"

"The food should be fresh when he comes home, but I'd like to prepare it before making myself look nice because I don't want to get food over my nice dress, so if for right now you could keep her occupied," she passed Ivy over, "That would be great. And I'm going to use the good plates and cutlery, the ones from our wedding."

"Hello, my little darling!" Sally cooed, scooping Ivy up and holding her out to see her better. "Are you ready to watch your mother get messy cooking? Are you? Oh, yes you are! And if you were any older, I'd help you steal little bites to eat, but lucky for you mother, you are not old enough to eat that sort of thing yet."

"If she were old enough for that, she would not be staying the night here," Daizi laughed, getting all the ingredients ready, "I think I've managed to keep Dark completely, well, in the dark about this. He whined a little when I sent him out on a list of chores, but I knew he'd be able to tell I was plotting something. And just once, I want to be the one to do the big romantic surprise."

Daizi gave Sally a few tasks to help her with while she set about her own list. When she had no other options, she took Ivy back to feed her and then took a break from all the preparations to lie down on the floor with both Ivy and Sally for tummy time, because even with everything they needed to do, she didn't want to miss playtime, especially now that Ivy was so much more capable and getting so much closer to rolling over. Then she set the table and set up candles, although she didn't light them yet, and only after all that was ready did she say, "Okay, do you think you can help me to look nice?"

"You always look nice, darling, but I do believe I can help you look stunning," Sally replied with a little smirk. "Come along and show me what tools you have available to you. Do you have any specifics in mind?"

"Not really," Daizi admitted, leading Sally up to her bedroom, and walking her to the vanity table, opening drawers, "All the makeup we have is in here. I'm not sure what colours are good ones. I think Dark has said before he likes my red lipstick, my orchid lipstick--I have no idea what that is-- and my 'burnt orange' lipstick... I can show you the dress I bought, I've been hiding it from him."

"Let's see the dress first and go from there," Sally said, looking over the colors. "The last thing we want to do is spend an eternity on make up only to realize that the colors clash."

Daizi went underneath her bed and pulled out a garment bag she had hidden away, and from inside of it she pulled out a green velvet dress with three-quarter sleeves, a deep-v neckline, a slit up the side and buttons up the back, "It's been a long time since I've bought anything on my own. I don't even know what colour it is."

"Green, actually, a deep green like grass growing in the shade," Sally told her with an approving smile. "That is going to look gorgeous on you." She helped Daizi pick out the right underthings so nothing would show through the slit and picked out some simple gold jewelry to go with it. Makeup came next, and she chose a dark red lipstick and blended a dark eyeshadow with a hint of green but applied it very lightly so Daizi wouldn't look like she had a black eye. The rest of the look she kept very simple, drawing attention to the eyes and the mouth specifically.

"It's weird to have someone other than Dark do my makeup," She murmured after Sally sat back, "Let me go change into my robe... I can step into my dress, and I'd rather not ruin my hair. I thought it would be nice to have it up, so that, you know, we can take it down. I don't really need help doing my hair, but I'd appreciate it if you could tell me if it looks messy."
