How Green Becomes Wood

"Oh my god, do you parents know about that?" Ellias asked, a little horrified. "If the can hit you, you could've needed to go to the hospital."

"Dark probably would've bashed the guy's face in if he was here," D'Arcy commented.

"You know..." Spencer said slowly, rolling her shoulders back, "We did come here for Tarot, but she wanted to come here for you. You have no idea the wonderful things she says about you both."

"It was one of those paper cups you get here, not a can, and it mostly splashed a bunch and made a big mess," Alec said, waving a hand dismissively.

"Took me a week to get the stickiness off my guitar body," Xander grumbled.

"We never bothered to mention it because the manager took care of it and just about literally tossed the fellow out," Alec told them. "He was not thrilled at all, and he even gave us an extra pizza for our trouble!"

"Good tips that night, too," Peter mused. "It was kind of worth the scrubbing, even if it was a bit of a scare."

Alec and Xander both blushed at Spencer's words. "She is an extra special person," Alec murmured. "Really, I don't think I've ever met someone so... genuine. I'm glad she has such nice friends like you."

"Oh, well, then it's okay, then." Gwen joked lightly but Ellias scowled. As she did, she leaned back and crossed her legs, revealing her giant heeled and studded boots.

"Can't imagine what kid of lowlife would throw even a paper cup of soda at a group of kids regardless." She spat.

"We really enjoy her company." Spencer said earnestly, "D'Arcy and I were both bridesmaids at the wedding."

"We're just glad Dark is good, because otherwise it'd take all four of us to eliminate him, and one of us would be bound to go down for it," D'Arcy joked, leaning against their friend.

"This is true," Alec giggled, "but he's as special as she is! In his own way."

Peter stepped over. "My dad will be here in about five minutes, he said. I figure I'll wait outside. It was a pleasure to meet you, ladies! See you two later."

Xander and Alec said goodbye, and Peter headed outside.

"I know," Spencer said simply, and as Peter left, all of Daizi's friends made vague murmurs of goodbye.

Not long after, Daizi rejoined them, and Dark came to take them home. She had a somewhat long goodbye which each of her friends, although shorter than when Cooger said goodbye to anyone, and in that time Dark asked the twins how the show went, before fulfilling his spousal obligations of briefly greeting and then saying goodbye to his wife's friends.

And soon enough, they were on the way home. "Did you enjoy being home alone?" Daizi asked.

"I always enjoy being alone," Dark responded, "I made good progress on the high chair, so I will be able to really devote spring break to the wardrobe."

"That was so much fun," Alec said happily and a little drowsily. "It always is, but that was extra fun."

Xander yawned and settled back. "Good amount of pizza, too."

"You're friends are nice," Alec told Daizi.

"I forget you've never been around all of them at once before," Daizi hummed, resting her head against the window, "I miss spending more time with them. You should sing more, Xander."

"You should go out more," Xander retorted before the words registered. He glanced at Daizi and shook his head. "Nah. I don't have a good voice. It's just good for growling and breakup songs."

"I've tried to convince him otherwise, but it doesn't work," Alec told Daizi. "You should go out more. After all, you have three babysitters at your disposal. Well, one parent, and one and a half babysitters."

Xander frowned. "Who's the half? Or is it two three-quarters?"

"You are half because you won't hold her."

"Oh."

"You're both half," Daizi commented, "because neither of you will change her. And that's fine, we have Cooger if Dark and I ever wanted to go out together as a couple, or Sally, if she didn't have work the next day. You're only a full babysitter if you can be left alone with her entirely."

"Thank you for correcting yourself that I am not a babysitter," Dark commented blandly, "You should go out more."

"It just takes a lot of preparation."

"Well, then we're good for short excursions if you change her right before you leave," Alec pointed out. "In any case, I think the preparation would be worth it for you. It's good." He yawned. "Do we have any ice cream?"

"No, I ate the last of it, but we have cookies," Xander pointed out mildly.

Daizi couldn't help but laugh lightly at Alec's response to the diaper issue, "And if there's an accident when we aren't home? Some things aren't entirely predictable. You are both wonderful big brothers, and I trust you both to watch her if we need a break or a nap or if I need to go out into the garden, but we couldn't leave the house with one or both of you solely responsible for her, and that's the boundary you set, and that's okay."

"You did make a lot of cookies," Dark said, "but we could pick up ice cream on the way home if you would prefer."

Alec accepted Daizi's response to that with a little smile. Accidents were rather inevitable. Maybe when Ivy was older they'd end up looking after her more, but for now, with certain boundaries in place, that was going to be difficult. He appreciated her helping him to maintain those boundaries. "No, thank you, I am happy with cookies," he told Dark. "We should eat those before they go stale."

Dark didn't argue, preferring they go straight home anyway. Had Alec wanted to stop somewhere, he would have, but really he offered because it seemed like the proper thing to do after your child has a performance. When they went home, Daizi brought Ivy straight upstairs to lay her down to sleep for the night before coming back down. "That all wore her out, she should sleep well, I think."

Alec and Xander sat in the kitchen eating their peanut butter cookies, relaxing tiredly after a long day. A good day, but a long one. Everything had gone so well! And they had finally decided on a song for the talent show, which was something that had been haunting Alec for a while. He wished he could write songs so that they wouldn't have to rely on doing covers. They were slowly getting better at doing alternate versions of various songs, but they were still covers.

"She was really cute," Alec told Daizi. "I think she was watching us."

"She probably was. She loves music, she's bound to be a musician or a dancer. Not necessarily professionally, but she really enjoys it." Daizi said, settling in for a quiet evening. "I really am grateful to have her."

The twins exchanged an amused glance at that but said nothing, just exchanged cookies. After a while, they headed off to bed with Alec still chatting happily about how well everything had gone, and tomorrow was going to be a lovely, quiet Sunday! It was a perfect end to a perfect day. Hopefully, next week would be even better than this one.

A few weeks went by, fairly calm and uninterrupted. Ivy was a week away from being six months old, while still really being just shy of five months, but they were adjusted to that difference.

Milo did his best to try to engage the twins, even though it wasn't exactly easy or comfortable to him, but he made an effort, although still only when they were alone, never when they were with other friends.

On Thursday, at lunch, Sloan sat down with them, "Hey. Do you know Dylan Harwood?"

Alec tried to get Milo to join them with their other friends from time to time, but mostly let him do as he pleased. He was focused on trying to learn everything he could about Cyr wheels and how to train properly for them. He'd never actually deliberately trained for anything in his life! Unless you counted music. So far, the exercise regime and he were not the best of friends.

Xander didn't even ask Milo to join them elsewhere. He just took what Milo gave him and asked for nothing more. He was feeling like he was getting a bit more comfortable with Milo, though, as they spent more time together. Not like they were bosom brothers, but friendlier.

Alec looked up from trying to fork some noodles out of his lunch container. "Is he an actor?" he asked curiously.

"I knew a Dylan Harwood in New Zealand," Peter mused. "He was really into rugby, and I think got a scholarship somewhere with it. I doubt it's the same bloke, though."

Xander slurped up a noodle. "Nah, he's some jock, in't he?"

"Yeah, he's on the basketball team," Sloan said, "His parents are out of town this weekend, and I know it's literally the most cliché thing ever, but he's having a party while they're away. We should go."

"Basketball player having a party with his parents away. I thought that sort of thing only happened in the movies," Alec grinned. "I guess the movies had to have some inspiration from reality, right? Anyway, what kind of party is it you're thinking of taking us all to?"
