How Green Becomes Wood

"Oh, we can do that!" Daizi said cheerfully, "If you want to go, I'm sure we can manage it, we can go after Dark's appointment, I'm sure."

"Should we call Tristan first?" Dark asked, "to make sure he has the time? It is wedding season, I would not want to overwhelm him."

Xander gave Enkidu a last pat before getting up off the floor. "It is a business," he pointed out, "and he did offer Alec a job there, so what's a better way to see what it's like there then to have a surprise visit."

"That makes sense, but also sounds a little underhanded," Alec mused.

"That is true... But I also believe if he has more free time, then he would be able to show you around more." Dark advised them, not liking the idea of dropping in unannounced and potentially causing undo stress to a man attempting to run his own business. "What if Alec has questions but nobody is available to answer them?"

"I like that idea better," Alec agreed.

Xander shrugged. "Alright, we'll do it your way, but I still think the best way to see what a person is like is to catch them off guard."

Dark nodded, relieved, and got up from the table, "I will call him to see if today is alright. Excuse me." He stepped just into the other room, near enough that his side could be overheard, and dialed Tristan's phone number.

"You're probably right," Daizi told Xander, "but this way, we also have more control over how we are presented. Now we seem conscientious."

"Hadn't thought of that," Xander admitted. "I guess you have a point."

Tristan answered the phone promptly after a couple of rings and said a quick greeting. He hadn't looked at the ID to see who was calling, so it was a polite, generic greeting.

"Good morning, Mr. Walsh, this is G.M. Dark. I hope this is not a bad time. Alec had hoped to stop by your flower shop this afternoon, and I thought especially considering it is wedding season I should call ahead and see if today is a good day or if another would be better." Dark explained simply on the phone, cutting directly to the chase rather wasting both of their time with pleasantries.

"Good morning, Mr. Dark!" Tristan greeted. "Today is a good day, especially if it is later in the day. I would be delighted to see him, and you, of course. Wedding season is upon us, but I am finishing up an order this morning and will finally be able to breathe easy for a while."

"Good. Alec will be pleased. Yes, we were discussing stopping by this afternoon. I suppose we will see you then." After making the obligate goodbyes, he hung up his phone and walked back into the kitchen, "He said this afternoon is a fine time to visit."

"Oh, good!" Alec grinned. "I look forward to this. Flowers are always pretty, and we get to see a whole shop of them!"

"I can't remember ever being in a flower shop, so this should be interesting," Xander agreed.

"We should bring Ivy in her sling," Dark said, "I had wanted to inquire how wide the," he held his hands out to either side, frowning for a moment as he tried to gesture what he was thinking of, "...store... hallways...---Aisles! are. But I had forgotten the word in English. And I do not want her stroller to be a hazard."

"That's the most annoying thing about being bilingual," Daizi chuckled.

"Yes! Especially when you cannot remember the word in either language!" Dark huffed, drinking more coffee because clearly it was much, much too early in the day.

Alec laughed. "And I thought that problem was frustrating when you only spoke one language! But I'd imagine the aisles would have to be a little wider than normal so that he could get around, himself, right?"

"He would have to be able to wheel himself around his own shop," Xander said.

"Unless he has some mobility? Not all chair users are completely paralyzed," Alec pointed out.

Dark frowned, realizing they were completely correct about that, "I forgot the word for aisle, so I certainly forgot the width of a wheelchair in comparison to a stroller. But also I think a stroller is longer than a wheelchair is, so the corners may be more difficult. The sling is probably easier."

"And Ivy likes her sling, don't you baby?" Daizi asked cheerfully, lifting Ivy up above her head, "She gets to snuggle in so close to Mama and Baba, and it's so nice!"

"I bet she could eat a hibiscus flower," Daizi laughed, "People use them in cooking and tea all the time. But I do think it'd be better if she's not testing new flavours in the middle of a stranger's store."

"I wonder..." Dark mused, sitting back down, "Since he is in a wheel chair, presuming he isn't ambulatory, if the shelves will be lower there than they would be elsewhere. I suppose we will learn."

"Or maybe that's why he has an employee," Xander remarked, heading out toward the back. "SOmeone to reach the higher shelves so he can have more stock."

"Maybe, and I look forward to finding out!" Alec said happily.

Until it came time for Dark to first go to therapy, and then to the flower shop, he spent some time with his wife, children, and dog, but then also went out to work in his shed for awhile before cleaning himself up and leaving for his appointment, since his was in person, but also on the other side of town, so his plan was to drive back past the house to pick up his family and go to the flowershop.

During that time, Daizi brought Ivy next door and knocked lightly on Lex's door, wanting to inquire about her fourth of July plans before she forgot, under the guise of checking in about the gate they had ordered and to invite her to see what Dark had done on the gate they were collaborating on.

It took Lex a long while to open the door, and when she did, she was in jean shorts that nearly reached her knees and a tank top with her hair up in a messy ponytail. Not that Daizi would notice, but she would notice the strong smell of oil, fire, and ash. "Oh, hi, Daizi! Are you here about the gate?" Lex asked, cleaning off her hand with a rag. "It's not done yet, but I do have enough together that you can come check it out." She smiled at Ivy. "You, too, of course, ya little sprout."

"Not urgently," Daizi replied, bouncing Ivy on her hip, who looked almost warily at Lex and then turned in towards her mother, grabbing onto her hair, "Although this little devil has started pushing up on her hands, so we may be approaching new horizons with her. But Dark wanted me to let you know he's nearly finished with his half of your gate, and he wanted me to tell you you're welcome to take a look at it."

"Love to," Lex grinned. "I can drop by later or tomorrow, if thats alright. Do you want to come in and see what I have done with the gate? Or do you want to wait until I've finished?"
