How Green Becomes Wood

Ivy looked at the toy she had, a little ladybug rattle, and one she played with a lot, and then up at her brother with her humongous eyes. She didn't want to give it to him, but... with great hesitancy, handed it to him.

Xander stared at Ivy. Then his face split into a smile to match hers. "Hey! She did it!"

"Did what?" Alec asked, looking up from stacking blocks.

"She got the fist bump!" Xander crowed. "Nice one, Mini!" He handed back her favored toy, grinning at her.

"She did?" Alec gasped. "Oh, that is EPIC!! I wish I could tell Mama and Ba right now! Go Ivy!"

Alec flopped over and gave Ivy a brief, gentle hug before releasing her. "I'm so proud of you, Ivy!"

Cautiously, unsure if he was pushing things, Xander offered his fist again.

"Whoops," Xander chuckled. He gingerly tried to help her up, but Alec had to step in and set her upright. "All better!" He offered her a fist just to see if she still wanted it.

The twins praised her a little more before moving on with the rest of their day. There was a lot to do and see and hear, after all! They continued to follow Ivy's schedule to the letter, getting their chores and homework done intermittently between giving her their undivided attention. It was exhausting, and they were looking forward to their parents' return, but it was not a bad time at all!

Ivy only gave them a little bit of normal trouble, but easy babies were still babies, and that meant she was still a lot of work. And to think, this is what Dark and Daizi did every single day.

After Ivy went to bed, at around 10pm, Cooger sent both twins a video. It wasn't very long, only about thirty seconds at the most, and he sent it with no context.

It began with the camera facing himself with a bewildered but amused look on his face, then he flipped to the back camera, which he focused on Dark and Daizi. By then, Dark had taken off the lavender suit jacket and had loosened his tie, and he and Daizi were dancing together. To I'm Walking on Sunshine. And singing along. Both of them, with big smiles on their faces. It was when Daizi turned away from Dark to pull in Mittz, a tiny woman with short, peach-coloured hair and embroidered flowers on her wedding dress to dance with her, too, that Cooger switched back to the front camera, and mouthed the words, "What has that purple suit done to him?*

Alec and Xander replayed the video three times, cracking up with laughter each time. They argued over what to send back, but Alec finally texted back, Maybe clothing really does affect your personality!

This is going to be wild to look back on. They are so not them! But at least they look like they are having a good time. Alec played the video again so he and Xander could laugh.

Tarot isn't so uncommon, Cooger admitted, But I'd never guess I'd catch Dark singing along to Walking on Sunshine! Ain't even drunk! All he's had is some wine.

Since Daizi was dancing with one of the brides, Dark came back over to sit, "What are you laughing about?"

"Me, nothing," Cooger chuckled, shaking his head, "Just, you feel alive, you feel the love, you feel the love that's really real?"

"Am I not allowed to dance with my wife?"

"In your purple suit?" Cooger teased, "Singing along and laughing? You might have a fever."

I agree, I didn't think he'd even know that song! I thought if he did, it would be his most hated song. He looks like a character on a really nice kid's show, but not in a bad way. At Xander's urging, Alec sent a second text. If Lex loved that song, would you dance with her and sing it?

"Who are you texting?" Dark asked, frowning.

"Nobody," Cooger replied, smiling down at his phone as he went to see what the twins had texted him.

"Nobody," Dark replied, "You smile down at your phone, and expect me to believe it is nobody? Are you texting Lex?" Reading the text from the twins, Cooger choked on his drink. Dark's expression changed, fearing he had stumbled into a conversation he didn't want, "...are you texting Lex?"

"No I am not," He huffed, "Your sons ain't got no decorum, you know that?"

"No, they do not," Dark agreed, pleased to realize Cooger also received their teasing, "What did they say?"

"They said it's clear you've been raising them," Cooger replied, trying to figure out how to reply to their message. Eventually he landed on, I dunno, but if she told me she loved throwing slippers at two s**-talking ginger teens, I'd do that with her*

If she can hit us, then we'll accept the punishment, Xander replied, stealing Alec's phone to do so.

If she can't hit us, then you gotta come with us to our next karaoke party and dance with her! Alec declared once he'd stolen his phone back. But you don't have to dress like a character at a fundraiser.
