How Green Becomes Wood

I'm sorry, I don't remember asking relationship advice from two snot-knosed kids who ain't even kissed a girl

He sent the message, and then after a moment, sent another message: Or a boy, I ain't judging

Daizi came happily back to the table, draping her arms around Dark's shoulders after she found him, "What are you two doing just sitting here? Come on."

"Tarot, you know I ain't much of a dancer."

"Habd," Daizi chided, letting go of Dark and tugging Cooger, trying to get him up, "You used to be more fun, so be fun."

"Is everybody going to be insulting me today?" Cooger laughed, allowing himself to be pulled up.

"Consider it payback for all the jokes you have made about me in my Bridesman suit today."

That's low and gross, Xander replied.

Most people who need advice don't ask for it! And besides: the easiest way to see a relationship is from the outside. ALec smirked. We'll see about that karaoke date later.

Neither were surprised by the lack of response, figuring Cooger had rejoined the party. It sounded like a fun party! They waited for a while longer before heading to bed, checking in on Ivy on the way.

To her delight, Daizi did get Cooger to dance with her, and spent the rest of the night going between all of her friends, absolutely flourishing. Dark wasn't at all ashamed for letting himself obviously have fun with her, or with Cooger, because he was genuinely in a really good place mentally, and he wasn't ashamed of that.

Eventually, it was time to go home. Like Cooger said, Dark wasn't drunk---when Daizi was drunk, typically, she was fun. She danced, agreed to get piercings, and wanted to get sloppy in the backs of taxi cabs. When he was drunk, there was always a 50% chance, at the absolute minimum, that he'd end up crying or getting too open about the stuff he had been through, so he typically avoided getting to that state. Also, the amount of alcohol it cost to get him drunk cost a lot of money--- so he was able to drive them home perfectly safely.

Once there, he was able to help his only slightly tipsy wife inside, much more quietly than when she came home after the Bachelorette party, and then they went upstairs to get ready for bed, stopping to listen outside the twins' door and poking their heads into the nursery to check on Ivy.

The twins got up a little earlier than usual the next morning and set about making breakfast. They couldn't wait to hear all about the party! More than what Cooger had already said, that is.

Daizi came downstairs first. Anytime Dark was sleeping, she let him sleep, even if it meant she woke up with the baby more often. At some point, a new wave would hit, and he wouldn't be able to sleep, so... It was no problem being up early.

"Good morning," She yawned, holding Ivy on her hip as she came downstairs, "I hope everything was okay yesterday?"

"Sure, it went great," Alec said with a smile. "It went really well! Oh, we made breakfast for you. And! And! Xander has something very exciting to tell you!"

Xander was stuck in the middle of a very big yawn and could not immediately answer.

"Did she really?" Daizi grinned brightly, "Oh, that's wonderful! You've been trying to teach her that for a really long time!"

To test it, Daizi extended her hand in a fist and nearly squealed when Ivy, once again, returned the gesture. "What a clever baby!" She praised, kissing the top of Ivy's head, "Oh, I'm so proud of you, baby!"

"Yep. I knew she'd get it eventually," Xander said proudly. "She's doing really good at it, too."

"She did overbalance herself once she was so excited to try it again," Alec grinned.

"Oh my baby girl," Daizi cooed, leaning over so she could hug Ivy, "You're getting so big, habibti!!! Aren't you?" After holding her for a few moments, she stepped back, still keeping one hand on Ivy's back, "Can you believe she is almost a full year old? I know that you're probably going to say that you can, but just lie, because I can't believe it. It feels like just a week or so ago, she couldn't even sit up on her own."

"It is completely unbelievable," Xander said.

"Absolutely wild!" Alec agreed.

It was pretty surprising even to the twins that time had flown so quickly with Ivy. It didn't fly nearly as fast as it had for Daizi, but still fast.

"I need to get some work done after breakfast," Xander said, changing the subject. "Do you need anything from me before then?"

"You gotta stop growing up so quickly, tifla," Daizi murmured, finally sitting down to eat her own breakfast, "You've done so much for us yesterday, Habibi, there is nothing more I could think of to ask of you today. I hope you don't run yourself ragged today, you deserve time to rest."

"It really wasn't that bad," Xander protested. "I wouldn't want to do it every weekend, but it wasn't that bad. I'll be in my shed if you need me." He frowned and mumbled to himself, "I need to get a little heater in there before it gets cold. At least there's time."

"It was a lot of fun," Alec told her as Xander headed out. "Like he said, I wouldn't want to do it every weekend, but I think because it's a novel experience and the only thing we had to do was watch her, it wasn't very hard. If we had to do everything else in our lives on top of it, that'd be different!"

Daizi overheard Xander's comment and made a mental note to pick one up for him, feeling it was something they had discussed once before. Then she said, "It was really hard when it was just us two all day," Daizi admitted, "I'm really glad to have Dark home, now, because those months where he wasn't were overwhelming. And that was when she was much newer to the world."

As she was saying this, Dark came groggily downstairs. He had slept well, but sleeping well meant he had slept like the dead, and was slowly coming back to life. "Good morning," He said quietly, rubbing his face with one hand.

"Good morning, Ba!" Alec cheered. He came over to hug his still-asleep father. "Did you have a good time last night? Lots of dancing? A little drinking? Lots of celebrating friends?"

"All three," Dark replied, hugging Alec back briefly before letting go and turning his attention to making coffee. "It was a good wedding, I think."

Daizi nodded, "We had a lot of fun, and Spencer and Mittz were so happy."

"Good. I am glad!" Alec said happily. "We had fun here, too, and it went by really easily." He turned and headed for the living room. "I should get the last of my homework done. I didn't finish it yesterday for obvious reasons. Oh, and I hope you keep the suit."

Alec just laughed and shook his head. Maybe he'd try stealing it and saving it for a really, really important day in the future. It would be amazing to pull out the suit when Dark least suspected it! But for now, he had math homework to finish and part of a book to read for English Lit.
