How Green Becomes Wood

"You basically just invited us to listen to a band play most of our favorite songs," Daizi laughed, lying back in the grass. She wanted to get up and dance more, and sing along, but Xander didn't dance, and she didn't want their day out to be her dancing while he just sat around. To be clear, she fully intended to coerce him into dancing eventually, to at least one song, but it was too soon, still.

Dark enjoyed dancing, but really only with his wife, so if she wasn't, he was more than content to sit by in the grass and listen, "We will get dinner after this, and surely that will meet your expectations."

"My expectation is that it'll be tasty. I bet that'll be met," Xander agreed. He listened to the song for a minute, tapping his foot along with the song. It was a good song.

The next song that came on had Xander sitting up. "Hey! Blind Guardian!" he said, shocked and pleased to finally have a band he recognized and liked. Mirror Mirror played loud and proud, and he couldn't help bobbing his head along.

"...yes?" Daizi asked, not immediately recognizing that was the name of the band.

Dark, who did recognize it was a band, couldn't help but laugh, genuinely laugh, and shake his head, "Xander, she has a name."

"Hey," Daizi laughed hard enough to snort, feeling the sun on her face, "I genuinely didn't know the band name. In retrospect I should have replied, 'Hey! Ginger Son!'"

"Well that also applies to Alec," Dark pointed out, looking down at her.

"They're identical twins and I needed a physically characteristic, I don't think there's one I could name that doesn't apply to both of them," Daizi retorted, propping herself up on her elbows.

"You could do Blue Tips, I guess since the tips of his hair are still blue. Not looking so good anymore. He should really do something about them," Xander smirked. "I wanna know how two Lord of the Rings nerds don't know Blind Guardian. The band."

"I would take him the moment he asked," Dark replied adamantly, "and I am not Lord of the Rings nerd, I just like the movies."

"I don't think you're a Lord of the Rings nerd until you can debate the lore," Daizi agreed, not considering herself a nerd of it either. She hadn't even read The Silmarillion.

"The album that Mirror Mirror is from is the Silmarillion, or at least a crash course," Xander said, snickering. "It's literally all I know about Lord of the Rings other than what we watched that one time."

"It is? To what?" Xander asked, puzzled. Then it clicked. "Oh! Oh, that's why." He smiled to himself and turned his attention to the band as they shifted to a song by Black Veil Brides. "Nice." He didn't mean the song.

"Do you remember when the lead singer of this band broke his ribs jumping off a platform?" Dark asked Daizi, of course recognizing Black Veil Brides. He had gone to Warped Tour on multiple occasions. He knew.

"It shouldn't have been as funny as it was," Daizi commented, "This is... an eclectic set list."

"They must be," Dark agreed, curious about the sharp switch from Sara Bareilles to Black Veil Brides. Never in his life had he expected to hear them in the same set list.

"I wonder if your band could do something like this," Daizi mused, turning her head to the side, "You've have more than enough experience, I should think."

Xander glanced at Daizi. He hadn't told either of them his decision to not stay with the band, though he still wasn't sure when he was going to leave, but he guessed now was as good a time as any. "Yeah, we could do this. We have a smoother set list already, that's for sure, even when we change it up. I don't know if the other two are going to keep it up after I leave, though."

Xander noted their reaction but tried to pretend he didn't. It was not a big deal. "Yeah, it is going well, probably better now than ever before. But it's not my thing. Never was, and it didn't grow on me. Alec said he'd try to find a replacement guitarist for me. At least a guitarist is easier to replace than a drummer."

They both wondered how Alec felt about it, but they both acknowledged it was a good thing Xander put his own feelings first.

"Good," Daizi said, lying back down, "You shouldn't stick with a hobby you don't enjoy just to please others."

With a nod, Dark agreed, and asked, "Are you going to play until they find a replacement, or do you have a final day in mind?"

"For now, the plan is to play until they get a replacement," Xander said as the band switched to a song by Evanescence. "As long as they don't take forever, it should work out, I think."
