How Green Becomes Wood

Daizi put her hands out, trying to imagine how it would feel based on what Xander described, and felt she had a fairly good understanding of it, "People always make leather and wool from what animals they have access to. It's not so strange."

"It shocks me how much more productive you and your brother were than we were when we were teens," Cooger whistled, stretching his legs out far in front of him, "Makes me feel sorta ashamed. Kid's got a whole buisness, we were figuring out how to buy weed and alcohol illegally."

Alec laughed and gave a little twirl. "I have no time for weed and alcohol! Or money. I need my money to pay for other things like clothing and Cyr wheels and lessons for the cyr wheel and instrument upkeep and pizza when we eat more than our allotted amount at the pizza parlour."

"Don't need or want weed, but alcohol is a needed tool when working with leather," Xander said with a smirk. "But the kind I work with isn't exactly fun to drink."

"By the time Dark was 16, he was able to grow a full beard, which made it really easy to get away with not being carded," Cooger said, "and it's okay for me to say that, 'cause y'all two can't."

"There's a lesson to be learned in our teenage years about what happens if you don't have adult supervision and support," Daizi chuckled, "I'm certainly glad they make it easy."

"Goody for him. I'm so happy he has such an amazing talent," Xander said dryly while Alec snickered.

"I have been getting better at makeup, and it would be interesting to give minor prosthetics a try. Perhaps we could try fake beards!" Alec suggested brightly.

Xander nodded. "Not a bad idea. So... Cooger... where did you say we could find the booze and the weed?"

Cooger snorted, "New York City. Pretty long trip, and weed's legal there now, so I'll bet the chances of finding a shady enough guy to sell to you are smaller than they used to be."

"Cooger, are you attempting to teach my children to buy drugs under age?" Dark asked blandly, coming back downstairs.

"I wouldn't say so, I'm telling 'em why it wouldn't work for them. Plus, they don't have the same thousand yard stare you've got, wouldn't be as believable."

Xander smirked and shoved his hands into his pockets. "I bet I could figure something out. Especially with some of Alec's magic touch."

"You'd get enough for us both?" Alec asked.

"Of course."

"Then I'm in!" Alec smiled at Cooger. "I'm sure there are places closer than New York, and if you guys did it, then surely it's okay for us to follow in your footsteps."

"If you want you really follow in our footsteps, you should probably start ironing your hair straight and wearing studded bracelets." Dark replied blandly. "Anyway, I am not going to bail you out if you get caught with weed and are charged with a misdemeanor."

"What alcohol would you even want to drink, anyway?" Daizi asked, knowing that with them being sixteen, she'd absolutely allow them the occasional glass of wine with dinner or the occasional beer, although they never had the latter in the house because they both thought it was gross. Anything harder they were still a bit young for.

"My hair is already straight. I don't think I need to risk setting it on fire for the teeny, tiny amount that it might get straighter," Xander said dryly.

Alec shrugged. "I have no idea. A sampler pack to see if I even like any? Spaced out with lots to eat, of course."

"A sampler pack," Cooger snorted, amused by the phrasing.

"Well if that's all you want, just ask us when we're drinking and we'll let you try things. No need to commit crime for it," Daizi replied, waiving her hand while Dark considered pointing out that people with straight hair did still straighten their hair for a sleeker look.

"We also didn't have adults who would let us try it," Daizi pointed out with a grin.

"Or any adult supervision of any sort," Dark added, arms crossed, "Cooger's lived nearby, but most of the time they were not around because it was a boarding school."

"Boring! I've lost interest in the whole affair," Alec said, pretending to wander off.

"Yep. What fun is it if you can't break a law here and there?" Xander drawled, moving to pick up his piece of leather.

"My parents used to be laywers, but they're retired now," Cooger laughed, folding his hands behind his head.

"There's always Spencer, she does criminal work," Daizi pointed out, "but she'd be pissed if we called her in for that."

"Hey, maybe Cooger's folks would enjoy having something to do in their off time, then," Xander snickered. "I'm glad you lot had fun. I should get back to problem solving this bag situation."

"I don't even think they are allowed to practice now, and they ain't lawyers in Pennsylvania. Shoot, they don't even live here." Cooger replied, standing up as he slapped his knee, "C'mon, Dark, I wanna see what you're up to in your shed." With a nod, Dark led him out, pleased to spend time with his friend.

Daizi only pulled a pillow into her lap and settled in, for a brief while having no major responsibilities pulling her somewhere, "We did have fun. I'm glad we did it, on both of your days."

"It's nice. It's nice to be able to do the more grown-up version of a playdate," Alec smiled, leaning lightly against her. "I look forward to when we can do it again. Not counting the painting we'll be doing... whenever they finish firing the pieces or whatever they do."

"It'll probably be a few weeks before then," Daizi replied, leaning in and kissing Alec on the head, "but I know we'll do more soon. I don't know when, but we will. I think for the next while, it'll all be full family activities, but those are lovely too."

"We do have a lot to do in the next few weeks, that's for sure!" Alec's smile wavered a little, Then he renewed his cheer and said, "We'll be so busy, I might choose to go to a mattress store and take a few naps!"
