How Green Becomes Wood

"It's what we've always done," Xander said with a shrug. "And better in there than sleeping on the couch." The idea of not sharing a room was something that had occured to him, but as unpleasant as the room itself was, he couldn't bring himself to actually leave. Not yet, anyway.
 
"We wouldn't make you sleep on the couch," Daizi said, knowing they could find somewhere they could turn around and make into a bedroom. She didn't want to get rid of the music room, especially since if it was turned into a bedroom for one of the twins, then he'd end up sharing a wall with herself and her husband... and she didn't want some of those sounds to be overheard. Some of some of those sounds especially.

"If it is something you would want, I think it would be possible," Dark said carefully, "but I think what we need to do now is find a way to help him not need so much clutter."
 
Xander closed his eyes and sighed. "Yeah. That's what needs to happen. I just... I don't know how. He won't talk to me about it because he knows I'd just get rid of it all if I had my way. I don't actually want to get rid of it... even if sometimes I do think about lighting it all on fire."
 
"It'll be ap process." Daizi shrugged, rubbing her arm, "It might be something we bring up in family therapy, Dark and I are going to do more reading on how to help..."

"Daizi suggested we do a garage sale as family, if we are all getting rid of some things it may help to thin the amount by a little," Dark added.
 
"That was my concern, but I suppose we can always talk about doing a family donation to a thrift store," Dark replied.

"It may be better that way," Daizi added, thinking about it, "With donations, they don't give it back if they don't want it."
 
Xander looked at Daizi in surprise. "Do people do that with garage sales? Really?"

Alec came down the stairs, thumping merrily as was his way. "Hi! You smell like horses," he greeted his brother. Then he looked around in confusion. "Did I walk into something?" he asked uncertainly.
 
"No, but someone at a garage sale may not choose to buy it all," Daizi replied quietly as she heard the footsteps.

"No, it is okay," Dark said, looking towards Alec, "We were only catching up after his session. Would you like to help me cook?"
 
"I would love to visit him again," Daizi said with a smile, "Just name the time."

Dark went to the kitchen, taking a deep breath while he was alone, before taking out the ingredients and turning to explain what Alec could help with. The teen still wasn't a great cook, but there was still plenty he could do.
 
Xander suggested some times to Daizi that could work for her to come visit and then retreated to the shower. He stayed in the shower for longer than usual, scrubbing himself clean and then standing and staring at nothing as he let the water wash away the stress. He wanted to help Alec. It frustrated him that he couldn't. It frustrated him that it seemed no one could get Alec to actually open up to the deepest layers. Not even him anymore. He used to be able to reach that part, but now they were older and life was slowly taking them father apart. He hated it. It was likely healthier, but he hated it.

Alec hummed happily as he helped Dark in the kitchen. He knew he wasn't great, but he was happy to follow directions and do whatever he could to help. He asked Dark about the vow renewal plans as they worked, excited about everything they were doing.
 
Daizi sighed, taking some moment to try and decompress. This is exactly what she was talking about. But there was nothing for it. It was a problem, they'd just have to learn to help it. It was all they could do.

"The music teacher at the school, Rose McGann, is going to be playing violin for the song we have our first dance to," Daizi said, doing her best to gather herself as she walked into the kitchen to join them, carrying Ivy on her hip.
 
"She's such a good teacher!" Alec said happily. "Your vow renewal is going to be so amazing. I can't believe we get to be a part of it."

Xander came down after a while and looked around. "Smells good in here."
 
"She is an incredible musician," Dark said, believing deeply his friend was wasting her talents teaching. It would be different if she loved teaching, but she didn't, really. "We have a backing instrumental, but she will be playing live for us."

"It would be nice, though," Daizi said, rubbing Ivy's back, "if you feel you have time to learn it and would want to, if you would be willing to accompany her on piano. Maybe I should've asked when we were talking earlier about if you'd be interested in helping us, but it was only while you were at work she sent us a video of how it sounded, and I thought it might be nice with live piano. She has a friend who would be glad to do it instead, if you'd rather just get to watch."
 
"If you think you can learn it in time," Daizi replied with a smile, glad he was interested, "She said she'd be glad to clear time in her schedule to work with you on it."

"It may make it difficult for you to actually watch the dance," Dark cautioned him, in case he didn't recognize that cost.
