How Green Becomes Wood

"I'll bet everyone on this street gets more than the normal number, 'cause the entire town comes here to trick-or-treat," Cooger commented, "Do you think your neighbors hate you for it?"

"Our neighbors hate us for many reasons." Dark replied with a low chuckle, daring to walk away from the door for a few moments.

"What's one more reason?" Alec agreed cheerfully.

A couple of minutes later, Lex knocked at the front door. She was wearing a white tank top torn off at the midriff and left ragged and a pair of Toby's ragged, torn, and holey jeans. They fit loosely enough around her legs, but her hips were wider than his, meaning the pants hugged her rear rather tightly. That problem was mostly dealt with by the length of the oversized, red flannel shirt she wore open with one corner tucked in her beltless jeans and one sleeve rolled up and the other down. Her shoulder-length brown hair was loose in a deliberate mess about her face.

Dark opened the door with the energy he had been using, but when he saw Lex he settled back into himself. He briefly looked over her, utterly unaffected by what he knew would strongly affect his best friend, and still picking up the candy bowl asked, as he asked most children eventually, "And what are you dressed as?"

"I am a no-longer-teenaged werewolf," Lex said with a smirk. "My biggest curse is no longer the fact that I change into a fuzzy beast every month. It's the fact that if I sleep weird, I can't straighten my neck properly all day."

Lex shrugged. "Get me the delicious or face me the malicious? Knock knock, the witch wants candies? Best witches this night if you don't fill my wishes? Delicious transaction or capricious direction? Share the magic or it's going to be tragic?"

"Am I not being allowed to be exact?" Dark asked, "You are entering my home of horrors."

"That's an awful thing to say about your family," Daizi teased from the kitchen, "I am reformed."

"Horrors." Dark clarified, knowing perfectly well she heard him correctly the first time.

"It is not so hard," Dark replied, amused, as he gave Lex a piece of candy and then stepped aside to let her enter, "Happy Halloween, Lex."

"You consider that both your trick and your treat. Well, one of your treats," She smirked and walked away without explaining herself as Cooger walked up to greet her in his full viking garb, although he stopped short seeing her costume.

"You look really great, Lex," He said, taking a few moments to look at her before saying, "We've all found ourselves trapped at the door before. He thinks he's funny, for some reason."

Lex glanced after Daizi, a little confused, but let it go without much thought. The second Dark wasn't looking, she flicked the candy back into the bowl. She had her own bowl back at home. Not quite up to this standard, but it wasn't bad, and the kids deserved it. She paused to look Cooger up and down. "Wow. You look pretty cool. Are you a... iron age soldier?" She walked closer to Cooger, trying to judge if he was open to a kiss or not. Nothing too PDA. "He is an absolute hilariocity, that's for sure."

"Hilariocity. What a word," Cooger repeated with a chuckle, bending to lightly kiss her although he also wasn't quite sure if it was the thing to do or not, but it's not like Dark or Daizi could say a word about public displays of affection... Although Daizi was blind, so he supposed she had a pass he lacked, "I'm going for Viking, actually. That's why I have this rune on my head. Supposedly it means protection, defense, and security, which to me all sound like synonyms. I heard you tell Dark you're a no-longer-teen wolf?"

Lex was happy to return his kiss, keeping it brief. "Yep! A teen werewolf that's grown a bit. Like it? You make a pretty good Viking, I gotta say."

Alec walked over and grinned. "Hi, Lex! You look fantastic. Werewolf?"

"Got it in one," Lex assured him. When Alec trotted away, Lex leaned closer to Cooger and whispered, "Since he made me work so hard for my treat, I've half a mind not to tell him about the trick coming his way."
