How Green Becomes Wood

Daizi laughed, allowing herself to be pushed away before coming closer and taking Alec's hands, "Maybe I want to dance with you. Fans can wait, somebody has to convince them it's okay to migrate onto the dance floor."

"Just okay," Dark replied, his amusement well hidden, "You are going to be questioned later, I hope you are aware."

Alec grinned and laughed, gladly letting her lead him forward. "Then I would be glad to help you teach them how to dance!"

"I fully intend to hide behind a plate of snacks and finger foods," Xander stated. "Failing that, Peter."

Daizi happily hurried out onto the dance floor and was soon happily whirling around with her son.

"That one, but other questions too." Dark said cryptically before walking off to speak with some people on his own, "Good luck."

Alec laughed and joyously joined in. He was no ballroom dancer, but he could keep up with anything else Daizi threw at him! As long as they didn't jig.

Xander frowned after Dark. "What does that mean? What 'that one?' What question did I bring up for there to be others?" he muttered, walking away toward where there were a few small treats out. Oh well. He'd figure that out later. He went to find Peter after getting a few bites to nibble on.

The Hollises joined Daizi and Alec on the dance floor, enjoying swooping about. They had both taken formal dance lessons from the time they were young, so while they couldn't do anything close to what Dark and Daizi did, they could look quite graceful on the floor.

Cooger turned to Lex, watching the dance floor fill out with people of various skill levels, "You much of a dancer?"

Dark, meanwhile, retrieved Ivy from Khalaty Neha. He held one of her tiny hands in his and supported her with his other arm, and danced her around the room. There was no reason she shouldn't enjoy the fun and she needed to be taught at some point, he may as well start early. "Very well done, tifla," He murmured to her, as if Ivy had any control in what was happening.

Lex was no dancer, either, but she wasn't the worst. She followed Cooger willingly and didn't trip over her feet. Judging by her smile, she was having a good time.

Ciara sat on the sidelines, watching quietly. She was enjoying herself in her own, quiet way, pleased to stay out off the dance floor and out of the limelight. Tristan was also enjoying himself as he watched, mostly watching Ivy and enjoying seeing Dark and his littlest child playing together in their dance.

Peter and Xander had found Milo and were mostly just existing in his space. Peter could dance and was very good at it, as he'd also had to take lessons like his parents, but it wasn't something he enjoyed, so he was, quite frankly, avoiding his mother. He would dance, and did rather frequently, but sometimes it was nice to be a spectator.

Occasionally, Cooger got daring and gave Lex a little twirl, but he wasn't so confident that he got too fancy with anything. It was nice to dance with her though and it was clear on his face.

Daizi twirled from Alec to her aunts to many of her friends, just enjoying the night, happy and free. Her dress swirled around her like midnight and she was more than happy to dance with anyone, trusting they'd make space to accommodate her because there was no way for her to keep track of who she was around.

Milo desperately was trying to capture everything. It was stressful. It was a nightmare. It was the most fun he had in a long time.

Lex laughed and enjoyed herself, perfectly content with Cooger's level of dancing and not pushing for anything more. This was just fun for her, and fun she was having!

Alec stayed on the dance floor as well, enjoying himself and dancing with whomever would grace him with a dance. This was the most fun he'd had in ages!

Peter eventually got dragged onto the dance floor by his mother, and Xander unabashedly hid behind Milo at one point to avoid getting dragged out, too, and it worked at least for a moment. Other than that, he did try to stay out of Milo's way. He did point out a couple of good shots, but tried to stay out of his way most of the time.

While dancing in a group of her friends, Daizi sang along with them to Like a Prayer and holding hands with them like they were sisters.

Having finished his "dance" with Ivy, Dark had planned to retreat to the walls for the time being when Amty Zeinab, so much smaller than him, demanded they share a dance. So, passing Ivy to Khalaty Neha, he obliged.

"Are you going to say no if your mom asks you to dance?" Milo asked from behind his camera.

"She'll only ask if she can find me," Xander replied. "She can only find me probably by accident with the way this party is turning into, well, a real party. Like prom or something. Least everyone's having fun." He glanced toward a corner. "Except for my aunt. Looks like she's considering heading home early.

"I dunno, I've never been to one," Xander shrugged. "I thought they stayed stuffy, formal affairs unless they were those type that people say are like some kind of mockery or something. I dunno. Just stuff I've heard and what I saw on TV. At least no one is wearing a dress made out of beer cans."

Xander snorted. "We're not all world travelers. I saw the dress on the internet. It was a video from ages ago, some redneck lady made her dress and veil from flattened beer cans for her backyard wedding. I swear it was a thing."

"In that case you wouldn't see it because everyone knows you don't wear a wedding dress to someone's wedding," Milo pointed out, "I bet your parents would kick them out if they tried."

"I'm just saying I only really know the two types," Xander replied. "I am vaguely aware of there being other types, but... Eh, you know what I mean. And no, there's no way Ba would ever allow that. What are you going to do if you get asked to dance?"
