How Green Becomes Wood

Alec ran around to cut her off and pin her between himself and Xander. His aim was not nearly as good, though, so he missed a lot. "You sided with the parents?"

"You traitor!" Xander scolded, but he softened his throws, making certain she didn't actually get hurt.

"A lady doesn't turn against her friends!" Alec retorted, ducking in advance.

Xander snickered as he got closer to Sloan and tried for a gentle back-of-the head shot that would have dribbled snow down her back. "That's what you get for turning your back!"

"Your parents are---Ah! No!---very persuasive!" Sloan yelled, ducking behind one of the barriers the twins had set up, "Your mom promised me hot chocolate! And Mr. Dark is just very difficult to say no to!"

"Hot chocolate is hard to say no to," Alec agreed with a little nod. He created a little shower of snow over the barrier.

"Are you weakening?" Xander demanded, chucking a snowball at Alec.

"Maybe!" Alec replied, returning fire.

Xander tried to duck but mistimed and took a solid hit. "He's an immortal vampire, staring into souls is what he does!"

Alec took an opportunistic shot at Sloan. "True, it's practically how he greets his best friends."

"Yes, and what is a mortal human supposed to do about that!" Sloan asked, ducking out of the way of Alec's snowball, although it still hit her shoulder. Her ability to dodge as well as she did during their water balloon fight was severely hampered by the snow, "You both have had training to deal with it!"

The twins laughed and gave up trying to argue as they pelted each other and their friend with snow as rapidly as they could manage. Alec tried to dodge at one point and tripped, landing flat on his face. He flipped over onto his side and continued to throw snow as best as he could. That made Xander laugh so hard his aim went terrible.

Once she was no longer having to defend herself morally, Sloan was able to really dedicate herself to the snowball war and it wasn't until the beautiful, freshly fallen snow was pitted and ruined that Sloan, panting to catch her breath said, "I think maybe we should call a truce."

"Alright," Xander panted, "but only because I think he needs it!" He pointed to Alec.

"I am perfectly fine and ready to continue!" Alec shouted. "I am stable, secure, shielded... and possibly a little bit stuck."

"Help you bury the body before my witch-mom found out," Alec said cheerfully, accepting her help to get up.

"Probably true," Xander agreed. "After all, he did leave you to drown a s saved me."

Alec stuck his tongue out at Xander. "Want some hot cocoa?" he asked Sloan.

The twins brushed each other off, Alec got Sloan's back for her, and they trooped to the house.

"Mama! We're coming in!" Alec called as he stepped inside. "Brr, it's cold when you stop running."

"Yes, please! And, yes, it was fun," Alec told her as he carefully shed his wet layers. "Sloan's quite good."

"Annoyingly," Xander drawled with a slight smirk. "I suppose it was okay."
