How Green Becomes Wood

Since Daizi was okay with anything, she agreed to the card game but suggested they wait until Ivy was distracted, or else she would steal the cards.

Luckily, not too long later it was naptime and they could all sit down to play without distraction.

The twins settled down happily to play against their parents. The game was not supposed to function as a team game, but the twins totally worked together to gang up on Dark and Daizi. They knew that eventually only one of them could win, but this was more fun for now!

Once Dark and Daizi recognized what their sons were doing, they silently decided to use the power of having known each other for longer than any of their children had been alive to combat it. Unfortunately, because they had caught on too late, the tide couldn't be turned entirely, but they'd be sure to go down fighting so, hopefully, one of them would not come in last.

It was Xander who won in the end, coming out on top by a narrow margin. He raised his hands in silent victory.

"No!" Alec crowed, who had come in third. "That was so close! I can't believe you won."

"It's half luck and a lot of skill," Xander smirked.

"I beat your father," Daizi said, immensely pleased as she pressed her full body weight against him, "Goose, babe, how does it feel to lose for once? You came in last place."

"I suppose there is a first time for everything," Dark replied dryly.

Alec laughed. "Mama! Don't be a sore winner."

"No, that's me. I'm the winner, and I can be as sore as I want," Xander gloated.

"Lovely," Alec smirked. "That's real mature."

"It's okay to tease when he wins almost every game we play," Daizi replied, stretching to kiss Dark on the cheek, "Honestly we should set up a memorial. Normally I only beat him at chess!"

Dark looked over at her, "Careful, my loving wife."

"What kind of memorial should we set up?" Xander smirked.

"Aw, come on! Leave poor Ba alone!" Alec protested. "He's suffering enough from that loss without having you guys rub it in. Want to play something else?"

"Only if you two will not pull shenanigans again," Dark replied. Frankly, had Daizi kept teasing him, he was planning on lifting her up and tossing her onto the other couch to tease her back.

"We should play a team game this time, but you two and Dark and I need to be on different teams."

"I'll be on Ba's side!" Alec volunteered. "And Mama, you should team up with Xander. Then we have a nice, even distribution of personalities."

"I don't know if I like that plan," Xander grumbled. "I think Alec and Mama should be a team, and I should team up with Ba."

"No, I'm afraid of all the hugging either you or Alec will want to do if you win," Xander stated. "Not that you are going to win, of course."

"Of course," Alec chirped.

"If I win I'll be too busy teasing your father for losing twice in a row to hug anyone," Daizi pointed out with a grin, "If you're teamed up with him, you'll get teased too because what an fall from grace to go from first to last!"

"Deal!" Alec said. "First round is me and Mama!"

"Why do you get to pick?" Xander challenged.

"Because I was the first to say something. If you want to pick, you'll have to be faster next time," Alec said and stuck out his tongue.

The twins were more focused on this second game on beating each other, and things got quite competitive. Xander finally ended up coming out on top, but then they realized they were supposed to be playing teams. They hadn't really been supporting Dark or Daizi, so the end of the game turned into them trying to overcompensate and be good partners.

The twins being over competitive with each other made Dark and Daizi more or less the ones who decided the game. Alec and Xander's total war was taking each other out entirely, so it came down to how they played. This time, they chose to not be too competitive with each other, because someone had to be calm, and once the twins remembered to be good teammates, they laughed it off and teased them slightly for it.

Dark and Xander won, of course, but Alec and Daizi were not far behind. Xander postured for a bit and strutted, but it was all in good fun.

After that game, the twins drifted off for a while to do their own things for a bit. There was only so long you could play board games, after all, and Ivy wasn't going to stay asleep forever. Alec went down to the basement with Xander and, ironically, helped him organize his wardrobe. Xander didn't really say it, but every time he looked at the wardrobe, he smiled a little, incredibly pleased to have it. Everything he owned fit in that wardrobe. It was perfect!
