How Green Becomes Wood

"She'll probably try at some point, but she'll come back, and we'll be faster than her for a long while," Daizi chuckled, sitting down before finding her bowl while Dark set Ivy in her high chair and clipped her most intense bib onto her. She couldn't manage to feed herself soup so well, but they knew she'd try. And it'd be a mess. But, until her tiny bowl of soup cooled down much more than theirs did, she had other food to focus on.

"I miss being able to go to the park with her regularly," Dark said once he finally could sit down to eat.

"She's so little, though, and this house is so big, I bet she will be happy enough to stay inside," Alec said.

"Don't know about you, though," Xander said, looking at Dark.

"I go on walks without her," Dark replied, "I have to take Enkidu out. And to all of my errands, and last week, if you will recall, I had a date with my wife. I am not imprisoned."

"I think we have more freedom this winter than we did the past two years, so long as we don't have another massive snowstorm like we did your first winter here."

"And cue massive snowstorm," Xander said, looking out the window.

"Sounds like you have a nice variety of things to do," Alec agreed. "But aren't you supposed to be complaining about being stuck at home with the baby without enough adult interaction? That what I hear all the stay-at-home parents in the pick up lines talk about. Not to mention the internet."

Dark looked wryly at Alec, "You forget, I do not enjoy human interaction. The less I need to speak to people, present company and Cooger excluded, the better." And even then, sometimes he went out to his shed because being around such a large family became too much for him and he needed to be completely alone.

"I need adult interaction," Daizi admitted, "I can't always make it to my friends, but we talk on the phone a lot, and do our best to plan times to visit in person."

"I think they're mostly passed the crying stage now, but luckily for them, I'm very familiar with how to settle someone who will not stop crying. Isn't that right, Ivy?" She asked, turning to her daughter and ruffling her hair.

A joke crossed Dark's mind, but not one he could make, so he instead said, "It is funny how we cry for those who, in a year or so, we are aghast we ever believed were not awful."

Alec made a face. "I hope I never have a friendship or a relationship that is so awful I later look back and wonder why I felt bad about losing them."

"You might. You are the type to love everyone and everything," Xander remarked.

"I hope you don't either, but it can be hard to avoid," Daizi replied, "It doesn't even need to be an awful relationship. I had this friend for a long, long time, and at first our friendship was great, but we grew apart and I'm stubborn. So when I finally ended our friendship, I cried for a long time, but now I realize it was for the best for both of us and I'm happier not trying to sustain it."
