How Green Becomes Wood

"Well. You're not green, unless I'm completely colourblind, so I don't know if you're the right model for it!" Cooger laughed, "Last year you bought black and silver for the tree. And the ornaments were probably painted."

"That's right, it was black and silver. I couldn't remember," Alec admitted. "This dramatic red one will probably look really good with the black and silver one or all by itself! I think this one's perfect, but I want to keep looking."

"Alright kid, you keep looking. This tree is probably a bit bigger than last tree's, going off my recollections, so we need more garland to cover it properly anyway." He clapped Alec on the back and then went to check back in on Xander, "I'll bet your brother would love a Drag Show, all the feather boas and sparkles."

"Please don't put the idea in his head," Xander groaned as he picked out an ornament of a brightly colored hummingbird. "He'll want to drag me along or, worse, try to see if he can't be in one."

Xander looked Cooger dead in the eye. "I will stake you through the heart with a piece of mistletoe and figure out how to boil you in your own pudding if you ever put that idea in his head."

"Nah, he'll just wait out on the porch and hose you down." Cooger replied, looking through the ornaments and soon picked up a glass replica of the rubber chicken toy, "Who do you think goes out to buy one of these?"

Xander glanced at the ornament and then gave Cooger a significant look. "I have no idea," he drawled. "It's a real mystery."

Alec came swishing over then, covered head to toe in garland. "Have you found ones you like yet?" he asked happily. He spotted the rubber chicken ornament in Cooger's hand. "Oh, that one's perfect for you!"

"I should be offended by that," Cooger replied, hanging up the chicken again, "You might want to ungarland yourself before you accidentally rip one. Oh, here," He picked up a realistic frog sitting in a loaf-posistion wearing a Santa hat, "This one kinda reminds me of Tarot."

"Hmm. Might be a good idea," Alec agreed.

"That's a good one," Xander nodded in approval. "We'll get that one for her. The candle is good for Alec, and the hummingbird for the Mini. Haven't fond one out for myself or you yet, but there's loads here."

"I like the candle for me, that's a nice one," Alec said, carefully unwinding himself.

"Why the candle for Alec?" Cooger asked, looking for a good ornament for Dark, but he was so hard to find. Christmas ornaments were so cheerful, finding one that fit him was no small task.

Xander glanced at Alec as he was trying to fold the garland properly to put away. "Why not? It's perfect." He moved over and spotted something. "Ha! There it is." He reached out and pulled down a cherub. Behind the cherub, misplaced, was another ornament that he brought down, putting the cherub back. "This one for Ba." He showed Cooger a small, grinning skull wearing a typical Santa hat.

"How is a rubber chicken perfect for me? I know I own real chickens, but I don't think I really have a reputation for being 'the chicken guy,'" Cooger grumbled, before looking confused at the skull, "It's good they sell that, but I've got no earthly idea why they do."

Xander snickered. "I'm not telling you." He let the skill dangle. "Maybe it's leftover from Halloween or part of like a joke set. What do you think? Just a random crow might be cool, too, since he likes crows. If I can find one."

"When did I say I don't think it fits?" Cooger asked, "I think it's the best thing we'll find here unless," he picked up an ornament of a glittery pink axolotl in a bedazzled santa hat, "somewhere amongst this stuff is a hidden stash of some real grim s***."

"Why is there a axolotl in a hat?" Alec asked as he returned from putting away all but his one chosen garland, which was draped around his shoulders like some sort of really long boa.

"I have no idea," Xander admitted. He held up the skull for Alec. "What do you think?"

Alec frowned and rubbed his chin. "I'm wondering about the skull even more than the axolotl, but it does look pretty good. For Ba?"

"Yep."

"Hmm. I like it, but I wonder if we could do better." He glanced at the axolotl again. "Then again, that might be our best option."

"We have time. Let's keep looking," Xander suggested.
