How Green Becomes Wood

"Xander, leave the poor man alone," Daizi said gently, "He's an actor, not a casting director."

"I just met you, I don't know your vocal register," Orpheus said easily, "Would any of you like a picture? Or an autograph?"

"Really? You don't mind?" Alec breathed excitedly. He fumbled out his program excitedly and flipped to a page he felt appropriate. "Please sign here?"

"Nice," Xander smiled. "That's awesome."

"It'd be my pleasure," Orpheus said, taking the program and wrote To the world we dream about, before signing his name. He then passed it along to Hades, who signed it and passed it along to any other cast members who were in the area before asking Xander, Dark, and Daizi if they wanted autographs too. Personally, Dark didn't really care one way or another, but he felt rude saying no, so he agreed.

When he got his program back, Alec clutched it gently, trying not to wrinkle it in his grip. "Thank you! This is... Wow! Thank you! This is so cool!"

"You're welcome," Orpheus replied and offered to take a picture with Alec, or with the full family. If they agreed, they had an ensemble member take the picture, otherwise he and Hades said their goodbyes and went backstage again.

Alec almost agreed, but when Xander politely declined, he also declined and thanked them for their time and willingness to mingle with fans. He was happy with the picture he'd gotten of his father and Hades. That was so cool!

"Yes, Mama?" Xander asked cautiously, recognizing the gleam in her expression.

Alec kept flipping through his program and looking at the signatures in his book, not actually watching where he was going. He'd never had anything signed before! He felt as giddy as a child!

"We've got a pretty good love story?" Daizi asked, doing her absolute best to not immediate rub it in, "More successful than Orpheus and it'd make a good story?"

Dark lightly grabbed the back of Alec's shirt to keep him from accidentally veering off into the road.

"Well, neither of you died, so, yeah, I'd say it's a bit more successful than their story," Xander said dryly, trying not to rise to the bait. "The dude literally stole you from your wedding. I think that wins the romance category Bingo."

Alec didn't even look up, not paying attention to who was steering him, but he did follow the direction of his shirt willingly and easily.

"Yeah, yeah, but it's not like romance is the only thing that'll keep you alive. Sure didn't keep what's-her-name alive," Xander smirked.

"Ooo, food!" Alec said, looking up at last. "It smells good in here."

"I'm very glad you have such faith in us," Daizi grinned, satisfied. But then, after a moment, he paused and said, "But you know, I don't think he would manage it."

Dark furrowed his eyebrows at this, "No, of course I would."

"Goose, you'd absolutely look back," She said, tipping her face towards him, "You love me too much not to."

"Loving you is precisely why I would not look back."

Daizi shook her head, "No, because, I mean, first of all, there's no way you would trust Hades and not suspect he's tricking you. So you'd trust me to follow you, but you'd be doubting he'd let me. But even if you had complete confidence, you'd look back just because you'd want to be sure I didn't trip."

"Mama has a good and very depressing point," Alec agreed. "I think, though, that the sheer chance of getting Mama back would mean he'd resist. Because it's a chance, however slim, which is more than he had before, so he wouldn't look back."

"He'd totally look back," Xander said matter of factly.

"I believe I would be able to resist looking back," Dark said, frowning deeply, "Knowing what is at stake, I would be able to resist."

"Knowing what is at stake is exactly why you'd look back! You're leading your blind wife out of Hell and you expect to not look back at me?" She bumped against him, "You'd spend the whole time afraid about if I got lost on the way."

"I would be loud enough for you to follow me by listening," He said simply.

"You my darling..." She began but then shook his head, "No but we wouldn't make it that far, because you wouldn't sing to Hades like Orpheus did. You're too shy."

"This is true, Ba. You'd never sing like that," Alec said, suppressing a smile.

"Too shy," Xander agreed gravely, nodding.

"It'd do no good at all."

"If you can't sing to him, then what are you going to do?"

"Can't punch a god."

"Especially not one holding your beloved's life in his hands."
