How Green Becomes Wood

"I forgive you," Dark promised, rubbing his back, "And you know, when I express a concern, it is only for your sake. I will never tell you how to feel, only try to suggest what you may want to think about."

"I'm sorry. I've been reading into your concern," Alec admitted. "It's not been fair of me. I'm just not good at this stuff. I promise I'm trying, I'm just not good at it."

"It takes time," Dark replied, "and I am sure it does not help having seen how Saladin treats me. I can promise I will not be like that, even if I may not agree with everything any partner you have says."

"I could never see you being like him. Ever." Alec hugged him tighter for a moment and then let go and straightened. "Anyway. I just wanted to say that. It was a nice date. We just walked around the mall and mostly window shopped and got some food."

"Good," Dark replied, holding onto Alec for as long as he needed before letting go.

"Where did you eat?" Daizi asked, rejoining the conversation after their moment passed, "Did you stay at the mall or go somewhere nearby?"

"I should have brought you home a pretzel! The pizza was..." He considered his answer, "Good in an odd way. Like, as a pizza, it's not fantastic, but for what it is, it's almost comforting."

"Oh! Sure!" Alec pulled it out of the bag and shook it out before displaying it to Dark. "It is incredibly comfortable," he told them. It looked comfortable, a soft, lightweight wool blend in a pullover style, designed to fit loosely and with a defined collar. It was also a very nice, pale cream color with no detail or extra colors.

"Yes, I think I will," Alec confirmed. He glanced at it once more before folding it up and putting it back in the bag. "It's good to have some nice, neutral colors for important events."

Dark nodded in agreement, and Daizi also took time to say it would be helpful. But they both shifted a bit at the comment and finally Daizi asked, "Alec? Do you like wearing the more neutral colours?"

Alec couldn't help chuckling at that comment. "No, but they have their place, don't they? Like if I wanted to go to an award ceremony, or if Peter asked us to go with him on some fancy-pants event thingy. Or maybe Xander will need to borrow something that's not black for some nice event thingy."

"I suppose so," Daizi said, and it was pretty hard to argue against, "Although I'm not sure the last time your father has worn any outfit which wasn't at least somewhat black."

"Spencer and Mittz' wedding," Dark said, "but it is true I almost exclusively wear black and grey, except for the occasional bit of red and purple."

"Really? I never noticed!" Alec said cheekily. He grinned at Dark. "But I do prefer the light for a top more than a dark, so cream is okay. Plus, I could add a vest if I wanted to!"

"That's very true," Daizi nodded, and they fell back into silence again for a little while.

Until Dark inhaled softly and said, "I have a question, but I do not wish to upset you with it."
