How Green Becomes Wood

"There aren't many parts of my job I don't like, at least," Daizi said, shrugging, "I am looking forward to being back in the office, although I think it's going to take me some time before I adjust back to having that commute again."

"That is quite a commute, but I bet you'll get the hang of it really fast," Alec assured her.

"Not to mention time away will mean it'll be that much better to come home," Xander pointed out as he started washing the dishes. "Absence makes the house grow fonder and all that."

Alec frowned. "I think it's 'heart.' Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

Xander considered that and then shook his head. "Nah, that doesn't make sense."

"It's not the worst because it's by train, it's just frustrating sometimes," She shrugged, "But it'll be worth it. It's unavoidable, in any case. And it is heart, by the way, not house."

"How can a heart grow fonder?" Xander asked.

"How can a house?" Alec shot back.

"What, you've never walked into a house and felt like you're being welcomed home by the house?"

"I'm pretty sure that's you and your heart."

"Nope, making an announcement for the further enjoyment for myself," Xander said. "It hits deeper if you say it out loud. Verbal confirmation of a job done."

"And done well, it really does hit different," Alec agreed. "Have a nice bath, Ivy!"

"She always does," Daizi smiled while Dark got up to feed and walk Enkidu. A few hours later, after being nursed, bathed, toweled off, and put into her coziest pajamas, Dark sat with her in the nursery with all the lights dimmed and read her stories until she fell asleep in his arms. As always, he sat with her a bit longer after she fell asleep before he finally stood up, kissed her on the forehead, and placed her gently into her crib, leaning over the rail to leave his hand on her chest to feel her breathing. It still amazed him at how big she had gotten.

Then he went to find his wife so the pair of them could have a very uncomfortable conversation with their sons.

The twins had done their evening chores and finished any leftover homework by that time. They sat in the living room chatting about nothing much, Xander sitting upright properly and Alec stretched out along the couch with his feet up on the back.

Dark and Daizi sat down with them, and after reconfirming they wanted to have this conversation, awkwardly began to explain the concept of kinks and fetishes to their sons while doing their best to not accidentally reveal anything about their own persuasions. Of course they invited questions and answered everything that was asked, and anytime they gave an example they both hoped it wouldn't scar their children. It seemed a whole lot worse than the normal sex talk, but nobody could claim they weren't well informed.

Alec was calm about the whole thing, even if he did turn bright red a few times, and he did his best to use the proper terminology and not fall into euphemisms or talk in circles too much, but there were some things he just couldn't bring himself to say outright. He asked a few questions and paid close attention to the answers. Mostly so he'd never have to ask any questions like this ever again.

Xander looked like he wanted to die on the spot. He sat resolute and fought not to tune them out. He forced himself even to ask a few questions. He was here. He never wanted to be here again. Might as well satisfy even the tiniest itches of curiosity. He never, ever wanted to have this conversation again.

Dark and Daizi might have known too much about this topic. They tried to make it seem like they didn't, for the children. Still, they didn't beleaguer the conversation and ended it as soon as it seemed acceptable to.

"And see, that is why we have concerns about performing that song and we're very glad you decided against it," Daizi concluded, at the very end of the conversation.

Alec nodded seriously. "I get it. Maybe I should mention this to the others. I don't think they realize it's this serious."

"I think I need to scrub my brain after this," Xander said, staring into the distance. "Why?"

Alec rolled his eyes. "I guess this is what happens when you refuse to have 'that talk' with your kids and make it evil."

"While still having boyfriends," Xander said, still staring at nothing. "Adults are so confusing."

"I do not believe most adults do end up describing this sort of content to their children, they just find it on their own." Dark said, "I suppose it is good you asked, though, so you could learn safe information, because some people experiment and it goes poorly."

Alec started to ask, "How could it go po-"

Xander's hand snapped out and covered his mouth. "Dude. Think. For five seconds," he said, his tone flat.

Alec did as commanded and then winced. "Mph," he said.

"Anyway," Daizi said, waving one hand, "If you have other questions at a later point, about this or about more... normative practices, you're very welcome to come to us, even if it's a little awkward to ask."

"That's probably better than looking it up on the internet," Alec said, moving Xander's hand.

"If you ever look up something on the internet..." Xander warned.

Alec held up his hands. "I promise I will not. Ever. Promise."

"Good," Xander said.

Alec looked between his parents. "Thank you for explaining all of this. Seriously, I appreciate the knowledge."

"It was professionally handled," Xander agreed.

"You're very welcome," Daizi said, hoping they didn't accidentally say anything too revealing, "but if that's all you needed, we should probably let you head to bed. You have school in the morning."

Alec got up and gave Dark a hug and Daizi a hug and a light kiss on the cheek. "Goodnight! Tomorrow's going to be interesting with Becky."

Xander stood to follow him. "Night! You promised to take care of her."

"I will! But I can't help it if you're standing next to me," Alec pointed out as they headed off to bed.
